20 Aftermath

What happened inside the Crescent Moon spread like a wildfire and almost all of Westdenn now knew about Dreigh's identity as a remnant. People would not stop talking about it that the following day they would openly stare at him and proceed to whisper with each other. But even with all the stares he received, he was not affected at all.

"News travels so fast, I didn't expect you to be a remnant," a man with a big belly and a beard covered face patted Dreigh's shoulder.

"Yes and it seems that it has already reached you too. I just hope that whatever news you received was not thwarted," he replied casually like it didn't bother him. The man eyed Dreigh before he let out a hearty laugh.

"Not really, I just heard that you have beaten several men until they can't stand anymore. Some also said that you were extremely evil and tortured those men, I also heard that someone died because you squeezed their neck tightly and many more versions." He only raised an eyebrow at how ridiculous the stories were made into. The first one was still acceptable but the second and third was a total exaggeration. He shook his head in exasperation, he didn't even want to hear any of the other stories that circulate about him. Dreigh was just amazed at how fast people could create such ludicrous fabricated fairy tales overnight.

"I don't know if I should be grateful or be offended. I want to make sure though that you don't believe those stories," he shrugged.

"Don't worry, I don't easily fall for those kinds of obviously fake stories and besides I already verified the events yesterday. If it weren't for you those bastards might have caused more harm to your sister and might continue to do so in the other shops. It's good that they got a taste of their own medicine." The man was full of approval at what Dreigh did and if he was there during the chaos, he would surely cheer for Dreigh.

"That is good to know," Dreigh nodded. It was a relief to know that there was still someone who doesn't believe those far fetched rumors about him.

"I like you, young man, you can remain calm despite this messy situation," the man was still grinning widely. "But you need to be careful though, there are people who covet that power." The man suddenly added. His countenance suddenly becoming serious.

"I understand, thank you for the concern and reminder Mr. Mazir," he was inwardly glad to see that the man was still the same despite him being a remnant. He understands Mr. Mazir's concern, now that it was out in the open that he has an ability hungry wolves would surely come sniffing around them and if that happens it would have a bad outcome. They have experienced it already in the past and now they might not be able to avoid it again.

Mr. Mazir saw how solemn Dreigh had become, "Now, let's just forget about that for the time being and move on to our business." Mr. Mazir decided to change the topic to lighten the atmosphere a bit.

The goods supplied to the Crescent Moon mainly came from Mr. Mazir. he was a loyal man and an upright businessman which was the reason why his father trusts him and with how long the both of them knew each other, they formed a friendship. Mr. Mazir would travel around the continent and bring back artifacts that he would immediately reserve for Crescent Moon which was good for their business.

The transaction with Mr. Mazir went smoothly and ended with the usual funny stories and more shoulder patting. Dreigh returned to the store with still all the looks and whispering but he still ignored them all.

"How did it go?" Levhon asked the moment Dreigh entered the store.

"Still the same, he even gave us additional goods to sell," he curtly answered and left all the documents on the countertop for Levhon to go through.

"That's good then," Levhon nodded. He picked up the documents and skimmed through it before keeping it in the lowest drawer behind the counter.

"Dreigh left his father and went to look for Everleigh on the second floor of the store. He carefully knocked on the door. He waited outside for his sister's permission before he enters.

"Come in!" Everleigh high pitched voice came from the room. Dreigh opened the door and entered the room.

The room was sparsely decorated with a painting of a flower garden at the wall facing the foot of the bed. A little bit of space after the bed, a bookshelf full of books that were very similar to what was in Dreigh's room was attached to the sidewall of the room. There were also some potted plants on the corners to add some color to the room. Dreigh saw his sister on the bed reading a book, a hobby that both of them share.

"How are you?" he asked as he sat on the right side of the bed.

Everleigh closed the book she was reading and faced her brother, "I don't know."

Dreigh did not speak and waited for his sister to continue. "I feel okay but at the same time I don't feel okay."

He held his sister's hand gently, "You need to rest a little bit more. Everything may not go back to normal again but we will still be here for you," He gently spoke. Everleigh nodded and tugged for her brother to sit beside her. She laid her head on Dreigh's shoulder. "Something like that would never happen again. I'll do my best to keep you safe, always."

"Thank you brother," Everleigh sniffed and silently cried on his brother's shoulder until she fell asleep.

Dreigh fell into deep thoughts, he thought of many possibilities that might happen and how he can counter them without implicating his family. While thinking about it, he frowned because they might already know what his weakness is. In the worst-case scenario, they might use his family to get to him. There are powerful people in Glasfale and if the news reaches them, they might make a move. There was also the Military Government of Glasfale, if his father's information, they will start their campaign in recruiting remnants like him.

He knew that they are in a difficult spot but the only thing he can do is think carefully about his next move and be more cautious about his planning. Dreigh closed his eyes to rest from the draining activity of always thinking. If he ever has plans for the future he might as well do it step by step.
