2 How I Met Him

I've known J for about six years now, ever since we had P.E. together in middle school. He sat behind me in the line-up, and I remember thinking "This guy's really nice".

And he was. He was a good person, inside and out, and would greet everyone with a smile. J loved to smile and laugh; and he laughed all the time because his friends were just that geeky and nerdy and socially awkard. I still talk with one of them now, and I swear after every single conversation I've gotten abs just because I laughed at them that much.

But the first day we met, I remember him tapping me on the shoulder and saying,

"Hi, I'm J. What's your name?"

"I'm Kel."

"It's nice to meet you, Kel. I've seen you in CCF(1) meetings, right?"

"Yeah. I've seen you leading the songs. I really like your voice."

"Thank you. You should join the team up there. It'll be fun."

"Hmm, maybe I will someday."

Then our teacher started calling attendance, but that was a very significant conversation for me. I didn't join the team, and now years later I wish I had. But I remember thinking after I turned around "I'm a fool if I fall in love before college". What do you know; I'm still a fool six years later, and I'm a fool because of the same guy.

(1) CCF was the Christian club at our school
