5 A Walk to Remember

That is probably one of the most cliché titles I could've used, but every walk I took with J is a walk I remember.

After Statistics we had Civics together second semester of senior year, so we would walk there together. I'd pick up our phones from our teacher because she had a policy to collect the class's phones, and J would finish packing up his stuff because I was always faster than him. Then we'd head off to our next class.

Most of the time, we'd talk about the events in our lives that we had in common. What was going on with the band and orchestra music, what we were going to learn about next in civics, our views on politics, stuff that was happening in our daily lives, and just a bunch of things that were interesting to us.

When we got to Civics, we would set our stuff down and lucky me, I sat in front of J again! Just like in Stats! My teachers, although they didn't know I liked J, were the absolute best when it came to setting up their seating charts. It was like they were the perfect wingmen, always placing me right next to J or in front of him (although in retrospect, it's probably because our last names both started with the same letter).

But after we sat down, he'd lean forward with his Nintendo or his phone and have me choose characters to pull or games to play. Something he never did for any other girl. Was I wrong in thinking J thought I was special and liked me? Probably was wrong with that conclusion, but when you're a teenage girl and you're in love, you tend to perceive things as more than what they are.

If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I'd do everything the exact same way, except I'd switch to contacts earlier instead of looking at J through rose-tinted glasses. But that's a story for another time, and right now, your girl is busy dealing with college drama 🙄
