18 Chapter 18: Wow. Just. Wow.

I had to change into proper caving attire: good walking shoes, comfortable pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. So, Kris dropped me off at home to change, and he went back to his place to pack up the essentials.

When he picked me up, my dad warned me again about being careful. He wasn’t thrilled that this was another De Luca boy I was getting together with, but I was twenty and Kris was about to become a sheriff’s deputy, despite all his tattoos and nearly bald head. How dangerous could he be?

“Just so you know,” Kris said as I got into his car. “My aunt’s not feeling so hot, so I may need to head home early if my mom calls me to pick up my sister if my aunt has to go to the ER. Trips to the ER can take hours, and I’d hate for Riley to be stuck there all night if that’s the case.”

“What’s wrong with your aunt?” I asked, feeling a little worried.
