3 The Game System And The Village Chief

While entering the town, which had laughably been named 'Newbie', I was looking at the functions of the Game System. Surprisingly, only four options are accessible and a fifth being unknown.

Status seems simple, showing a list of different stats explaining my strengths and weaknesses. Including an empty spot with the title: Titles. Curiously trying to acquire more information about it I was pressing a finger against the screen. Popping up on the right side a screen was seen.

[ Titles: Special terms regarding yourself giving different bonuses, be it from the way AI's regard you or different physical enhancements. ]

After reading this, I was pressing all of the status items to read their contents.

Deciding to look at the other functions of the system after understanding my own status, I was examining my own status.

The Map function is even simpler. Realizing it's a map that fills itself out whenever I walk around discovering places. Looking at it, it was currently holding a yellow mark on it. I think that's the Village Elder's position? Walking past buildings, slowly approaching the yellow mark I found myself inside a crowd. There are quite a lot of big and fa... burly men constantly talking about something. Perking up my ears I heard a few comments that made me frown in disgust.

"To think that we get a chance to become the beta, no, pre-alpha testers for a VRMMORPG game!"

"Yeah! Whoever these Lament Laboratories people are I bless them!"

"Who knows if anti-plagiaristic systems have been implemented yet. Hehehehe..."

"Can this crowd get a move on? I think the guy behind me just groped me!"

I am wondering for what reason everyone is stuck here, wanting to know I asked the woman who just claimed to be harassed. "Why is this crowd here?" Tilting her head, the woman was looking at me. "You're a subject eh? This here is the Village Chief area, usually filled with people either waiting to complete the 'Beginnings!' quest or another quest given by the chief." Hearing this I grew confused.

"Some people have already finished the quests? Did we not just wake up?" The woman seemingly having understood. "Ah, so you just woke up? Some people here say they woke up at least half an hour ago while others like us just woke up." Hmm, with so many people have any gained the recognition of the Chief? "Sadly, no one has completed the special part of the entry quest." As if remembering something, the woman had suddenly opened her menu.

*Ding!* Subject #34835, Christine Foren has given you a friend request! Do you wish to accept? Y/N

Pressing yes while inquisitively looking at the wom... no, Christine... she began chuckling. "Now we can contact each other as long as we are in the same dimension." Nodding my head, I had noticed something. Why is the queue not growing smaller at all? Christine being the chitty chatty cat she was, had peppered me with information that went out the other ear as I was observing the crowd.

Noticing my lack of attention, she also noticed the abnormal condition of the crowd. Instead of moving forward, everyone was complaining about someone hogging the chief to themselves. Sighing, Christine was walking away from the crowd. "No use in staying. Since night is breaking the Village Chief is about to walk inside." The rest of the crowd affirming her statement by dispersing as well.

But why should I follow the rules?

Quickly turning my head in this alley where the house was I had noticed multiple objects useful to me. Preparing myself for quite the ride I was bending my body. Christine, wondering what I was doing had a curious look on her face before it turned to utter shock. 'Did she just use the chief's guards' heads as a jump pad?'

Having jumped the wall, traversing the heads of the guards then vaulting through a window on the second floor I managed to find myself in a bedroom where a man was present. "Who might you be?" Looking at his clothes he had just entered the room and assuming he was the Chief I was bowing down giving my greetings. "Livy sir. I am here because I want to be given a task."

Laughing, the man was looking at me and his face was showing a smile he was clearly not used to make. "Very well. I will give you a worthy task."

*Ding!* You have completed 'Beginnings!' Reward: A Task (Grade: Normal)!

*Ding!* You have succeeded in triggering the special condition. Reward: Task Upgrade: Worthy!

*Ding!* You have attracted the attention of the System Operator.
