“At least we’ll still be somewhat close,” I said with a shrug, taking a sip from my beer. I’d been accepted to a technical college for a general IT program. Mimi was bound for business school at the local university. Reese was the only one staying in town to work in her family’s bakery, traveling to the university for training in pastry and baking to possibly expand the horizons of their business.

Mimi nodded solemnly. “But it won’t ever be the same.”

I scoffed and stood, downing my beer and grabbing another from one of two dwindling six packs on her dresser. “Enough with this sappy shit. Let’s get drunk and play Apples to Apples,” I commanded, putting my new beer down so I could rummage through her huge closet for the card game.

We sat cross-legged on the floor, cackling and making raunchy jokes as we played. Ten rounds and a six pack and a half of beer later, a car door slammed shut outside. Mimi gasped, standing and peeking outside of her window.
