Familiar Stranger

Xander's POV

I'm introduced to my Biology class and guess who I spot? The girl who wouldn't ask for help. What a great surprise! She doesn't seem very delighted to see me, though.

"Make yourself comfortable, Xander." The teacher tells me. I start walking to the last row. The 'stranger' glares at me so I glare back. When I pass by her, I smirk and go to take my seat, which is only a seat behind her.

Did I mention I don't really like Biology? Well, I don't. I'm having a hard time concentrating so I find a way to keep myself busy. I tear pages from my exercise book and write notes to the 'stranger'.

Not what you'd think. They're not like love notes or something, pff! I just wanted to annoy her and sure enough, she was. I managed to get her to reply to one of my notes, reminding her that she owed me her life.

She thanked me and asked me to pretend that we hadn't met before. When the bell rang, I packed my books. For some reason, I wanted to talk to the 'stranger'. By the time I was done, she had already left. I go to my next class. It's almost lunch,so I'll probably meet her in the cafeteria.

At lunchtime, I look for the 'stranger'in the cafeteria but I don't find her.

Why am I even looking for her?

"Hey,bro! Who're you looking for?" Josh got me out of my thoughts.

"Hey...Uh... no one. I'm not looking for anyone."

"Okay,so how about we get you that membership?"

"What membership?"

"What's up with you, dude?" Craig looked a bit taken aback.

"The Sharks, remember? The school swimming team?"

Oh, right! The Sharks.

"Oh! Yeah, yeah. Sure."

I gave up looking for her and left with Josh and Craig. They were going to help me sign up for the school swim team.

So, I was accepted into the school swim team and apparently,we had to stay behind after school for practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. Thank heavens I love swimming.

After classes, I went to the poolside with my friends, Josh and Craig. For the induction, I had to go ten laps in the pool.

Lame. Even a ten year old could do it. I think.

After practice was over, I changed and headed straight to my sleek BMW.

As I was driving out of school, I spotted someone outside the school gate. She looked like she was waiting for someone. When I got nearer, I stopped my car, realizing who she was.

Well,hello stranger!

For some reason,I was glad to see her .

Weird, I know. But, oh well.

"Hey, need a ride?"

This was going to be fun.

"No, thanks."

"It's seems that you still haven't learned your lesson, sweetheart ."

Sweetheart? Really, Xander?

"What did you just call me?"

"Does it really matter?"

"Oh, yes, it does. That's not my name."

"Then what's your name ?"

"Oh, does it really matter?"

"I tried, sweetheart. Look, I just wanna give you a ride. I might be a jerk, but I have class, you know. Besides, the next taxi will show up in the next half an hour ."

She was quiet for a while, probably thinking about the information I had just given her .

"So,what do you say?"

She rolled her eyes at me. She was probably gonna say no. Or was she?

"Huh! Fine!"

Bingo!

If you guessed I smirked, you guessed right. I did.

"Hop in ."

She got into the car and strapped on the seat belt.

The silence was uncomfortable and getting unbearable by the minute,so I decided to speak up.

"What were you doing at school after normal school hours, anyway?"

"What were you doing at school after normal school hours?"

Sassy. Not bad.

"I asked you first." I answered, keeping my eyes on the road.

"I take piano lessons after school on Mondays and Wednesdays."

"Nice!"

Seriously,Xander?! Is that the only response you could think of?

"You?"

"I'm in the school swim team. We also-" then she cut me off.

"You're a Shark!" She asked surprised.

"Yes,yes I am. You didn't even let me finish. I was going to say, we also-" she cut me off again.

"Stay behind for practice after school on Mondays and Wednesdays?"

"Y-yeah. How did you know?"

She smiled, keeping her eyes on the road ahead. And man, she's got a beautiful smile!

Wait,what!

"I've gone to that school longer than you have,jerk-o! You've only been there for a day." Then she laughed.

To say that I felt like an idiot would be an understatement.

"Oh,right." I was desperate to change the subject.

"Um... could I borrow your Biology note book?"

Genius,Xander.

She reached into her backpack, but stopped like she had just remembered something. She looked up at me with a smirk dancing on her lips.

"Nice try, jerk-o! Better luck next time."

Dang it!

"Okay, you caught me. How about we try another approach?"

"Go for it."

"Hi, I'm Xander Davis. What's your name?"

That was so wrong.

"Shirley. Shirley Reign."

"Nice to meet you,Miss Reign," I said in a British accent, making her laugh.

He shoots,he scores!

"Um... you can drop me off here. It's only one block from here. I can walk to my house."

"I know you think I'm a jerk, sweetheart, but it's not advisable to judge a book by its cover, you know? I'll just drop you off at your house. It's no biggie."

"It's Shirley, you know?"

"Eh! I like sweetheart better."

"Well, I don't."

"You don't have to." I said, wearing my smirk.

A few minutes later and we were outside her house.

"Thanks, jerk-o. Bye!"

"You're welcome. See you next time?" It was more of a question than a statement.

"I don't think they'll be a next time." She turned around and started towards her house.

"Don't be too sure about that, sweetheart. Karma's a bitch, you know."

"So am I ." She said without looking back at me . I chuckled and took the left lane, off to my home.
