1 Prologue

"Kaito-san!"

A shrill voice grated on my ears, penetrating through to the world of dreams and rousing me from my sleep. This pitch of voice that seemed to want to compete with a skyscraper in height... Yes, only one person has such an annoying voice. Sakura Isuzu, the top ranker on my blacklist, and the president of my fan club. Only she could startle me so badly as to instantly wake me up with only her voice.

Blearily opening my eyes, I had to blink my long eyelashes a couple times before they adjusted to the light and I regained my vision. Beautiful pink cherry blossoms swayed in the breeze above, shading me from the sun and sending a light, aromatic scent through the air. 'Why are these sakuras so beautiful, and that Sakura (the person) so revolting? Who dared name such a person after these elegant blossoms?'

Sighing, I lifted my head.

"Oh. Hi Sakura!" I said with the brightest smile I could muster.

She blushed predictably at my smile. I rolled my eyes internally. Don't try to act cute when you sound and act like a banshee.

"Kaito-san! I... I was... I wanted to ask if you would like to come eat lunch with me."

'You woke me up for that...' I thought while pretending to glance at my phone to check the time.

"Ah! Actually, I have to go to a meeting right now. I was almost late. Thank you for waking me!" I said with another of my trademark smiles.

'Yes, there should be a new chapter of one of my favorite web novels out today. What could be a important date than that?' I continued internally.

"Oh... Ok. Maybe tomorrow?" Although she looked disappointed momentarily, she quickly regained her persistent attitude.

"Hmm... I'd like to but I may be busy again. I'll let you know tomorrow."

'Note to self: avoid Sakura and her gang at all cost tomorrow.'

"Oh... Well, I'll see you later than I guess." This time she looked a little more visibly upset.

I felt bad for a moment, but then I thought about spending a whole lunch listening to her shrill voice, ignoring her overt flirting, and enduring her failed attempts at coquettishness... I shuddered involuntarily. Fortunately, my excuse was rather reasonable. As student council president I was often busy even during lunch.

I stood up gracefully, Sakura and her group still standing there staring for some reason, and picked up the backpack on the grass behind me. I was, as usual when I had a free lunch period, sleeping beneath a cherry tree by our university's little pond, enjoying the gentle breeze and warmth of the few rays of sun that penetrated through the branches above me.

Although I always brought a book to read, listening to the chirping of the birds and humming of dragonflies and other insects would quickly lull me into a peaceful sleep.

I had to admit, I was pretty blessed to be able to attend the most prestigious university in Japan. Just the campus alone, with its tasteful and modern buildings, high tech facilities, serene courtyards and lush vegetation and harmonious atmosphere made the hours of work and study I had put into coming here worth it.

I was always incredibly intelligent. I didn't have an eidetic memory, but my memorization capacity was still very strong. I was a logical and innovative thinker. Above all else, I worked diligently in many fields, academic and extracurricular. Coupled with my good looks, I had always stood out amongst my peers. Even here, I was the school's number one male academic, number one sexiest male, and number one male athlete. Kaito Yuki was a name that the whole school admired.

But even so, I didn't feel fulfilled. I never have. Nothing in this world has truly excited me. I tried so hard to find a passion, reaching incredible heights in a variety of activities from piano, to basketball, to kendo. And I felt very proud of my accomplishments. But not excited. Not fulfilled. Everything in this world was lacking something. Lacking an element of fantasy. I desperately wanted a world of magic, something different from my mundane existence.

'Anyway, probably better not to stand here thinking too long. Don't want Sakura to think of some way to trap me here.'

I sent the group of girls another warm smile. They swooned, and began whispering amongst each other trying to decide who that warmth was directed towards.

Warmth? Hmmm, doesn't matter I guess. I've been acting so long I myself sometimes no longer can tell whether my emotions are real or fake.

I set off down towards my dorm room, looking forward to checking what novels had been updated. Anime, light novels and video games had become my only solace over the years. When reading those, I can at least temporarily be somewhere else. Somewhere full of magic and fantasy.

Chuckling at how cheesy my own thoughts were, I quickened my pace, briskly walking towards my dorm building. The same light brown, polished stone and glass doors as usual greeted me when I finally arrived.

I practically skipped up to the third floor. I shared a living space and kitchen area with 5 other people, but had my own bedroom and bathroom to myself, fortunately. I eagerly entered my room and went to my desk, opening up my computer. A familiar bluish glow shone on my face.

I began typing the characters 'web novel' into the search bar, when suddenly an odd bzzst sounded, and a message appeared in the center of my screen.

"Hello there. You seem bored. I am too. Would you like to talk to me?"

'Uhm... first of all, exactly what messaging platform is this? I sure as hell never downloaded it! And second, how did you manage to sound even creepier than Sakura when she was sleep talking last Monday? Is this the meaning of there is heaven beyond the heavens, a pervert beyond a pervert?' I wondered, mildly disturbed.

"Uhm, no not really." I typed back, not holding back in expressing my feelings.

"NANI? W....What?! You.... Argh!" A weird string of words appeared on my screen, coming in faster and faster succession. My computer started sparking. I pushed my chair back, getting a little nervous.

Boom!

My last thoughts were, 'Since does a computer produce such a large explosion from a data overload?!"

-------------------

For the second time that day, I found myself blearily blinking open my eyes only to be blinded momentarily by the difference in light. Except this time, all the sharpness quickly faded, my surroundings remained a pure white.

'Uhm... What exactly is going on?'

Then it all rushed back to me. Creepy messages from what sounded like a dirty old grandpa (Maybe my history teacher?)... my computer sparking... blackness overtaking me...

'Hmm... I must be dead.' Hah. I've read reincarnation novels before. 'Now, where's the god who accidentally killed me.'

No one appeared.

(-_- ||| )

I tried calling out, feeling foolish and more than a little afraid.

I couldn't move. Looking down, I couldn't even see myself. Only a blurry outline was visible. I remained there motionless, and helpless, hoping this poor excuse of a god would quickly appear.

Finally, some time I had no way of measuring later, a door suddenly appeared and opened directly in front of me.

"Ah geez, I'm going I'm going."

Thwack! A sound distinctly reminiscent of a spank sounded, followed by a soul-shattering shriek.

"Damn woman! I already said I was going. Yes! I know to give him three perks. Yes! Yes! I will!" One sided arguing and grumbling could be heard.

Finally, a wizened old head with a wispy white beard appeared in the doorway, followed by a thin yet imposing body in a pure white robe.

Looks like I was right. This was caused by some perverted old man. Although it wasn't my history teacher.

"Humph. Rotten child. Stop thinking I'm perverted. I'm a respectable god. You have permission to worship me."

'... I know. You're the most stereotypical depiction of a god I've ever seen or read about. Although your character is a bit off...'

The man's eye twitched, then he turned around and shouted, "Nope! Not doing it! This ingrate! Runt! Brat! Doesn't deserve to be reincarnated nope!"

Another voice from inside the door.

"Asfbjafbahjsdf!!!!! Akjasjdbasdg!!!!! You will do this! You can't just go around killing mortals and then not reincarnate them!" A string of curses, followed by some words of reason. What an interesting person. Fortunately, they seemed able to subdue the god in front of me.

"Humph. Be thankful for my waifu. You would spend eternity here if not for her. Now, hmmm, yes, you can reincarnate into this world of Naruto from your memories. You seem most likely to die quickly if I reincarnate you there. Oh, yeah, have some perks. You'll know what they are when you get there, but hopefully you'll die before they can be put to any use."

'What a despicable god. Clearly taking out his marital frustrations on me...'

His eye twitched again. Oh, I guess he can read my thoughts.

Before I could say anything, a swirling vortex appeared around me and I was sucked away, the old man disappearing from my sight.
