5 Melancholy

[Your gift has been opened]

I'm practically shaking with excitement. Before the world went to shit he was a big fan of videogames and from his gamer intuition he could tell this was going to be good.

[You recieved a Growth type ability]

Oooo, thats sounds cool! No idea what it is though. Could it be an ability that gets stronger or an ability that accelerates growth?

[Please wait while the system reconstructs itself in order to fit your ability]

HOL' UP! WHAT'S MY ABILITY?

[To help the user feel the progress I have taken the privelage of installing a construction site noise simulation for the 24 hour duration of the update]

OIII!!!

[...]

I hear faint construction noises in the back of my head.

I feel a rising urge to pay a visit to certain godess.

HEY, GAIA! YOUR SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE! I WANT A REFUND! I think as loud as possible in an attempt to drown out the sounds of construction vehicles while simultaneously hoping she's somehow listening.

...

Nothing huh? Fine! I can make loud noises aswell! LALALALAALLALALALAL...

After about five minutes I give up.

I remember I still don't know where I am so I look around for details. I see a desk full of books laying around messily along with a gaming setup. Looking around a bit more I can see cheap paintings spread around the room along with a big wardrobe and bed in the corner. After realising where I am a bitter melancholy settles in my heart.

Jon, I'm so sorry.

The door opens and reveals a well-toned, short ginger. This innocent idiot is the best damn friend I've ever had and probably will ever have. At this point in time we had already been friends for 4 years. In this time we had shared pretty much everything about ourselves. If not for him I'd probably still be a suicidal coward, forever unable to notice the good things around me. His name is Jon Green.

He died fairly soon after the apocalypse started because we were both too weak. We were stuck on the street, surrounded by zombies. The only way out was through an open window at the side of a bulding. The plan was to holst me up and I would carry him up afterwards. He got bit.

A couple of tears run down my face as I'm forced to remember something I thought I had forgotten.

"Hey. what's up?" He asks

"Nothing" I say as I stand up and hug him.

"Dude you're creeping me out right now."

"Go fuck yourself"

I let go of him and wipe the remains of my tears of my face. A smile as bright as the sun plastered on my face. I can really re-do everything again. I can save him.

"Ok now you're seriously starting to creep me out."

"meh, whatever. Wanna play Downwatch?"

"Sure"
