13 Wasteland x 1

(Skipped over Gon's and Killua's explanation for being a hunter. Essentially, Killua is doing it for fun and Gon wants to find his dad because a dude named Kite(or Kaito for traditional bois) said he was a pretty cool guy)

"The exit!" Multiple examinees yelled in desperation and thankfulness as they saw a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

"Phew! Can't get outta this tunnel soon enough!" A random shinobi called out.

Yukana and Kurapika turned to a practically deflated Leorio. "Just a few more steps, Leorio!" Kurapika yelled out as Leorio wheezed out a "finally!"

The runners, as they exit the tunnel and found themselves on the surface, were confused. "Wild... Where are we...?"

Satotz began to explain the answer to their question, "The milsy wetlands, also known as the "Swindler's Swamp". It comprises the next leg of the first phase. Please note that there are many crafty and voracious creatures unique to these wetlands. They'll trick you in a blink and eat you with relish. Follow me and stay focused. If you are deceived, you are dead."

...

An examinee barely crawling up the stairs attempted to make it to the end of the tunnel, but in the end, the sliding door closed just before he got there.

"Allow me to reiterate--The creatures here are wily and their tricks are endless... and deadly. This is not their whim, but the basis of their entire ecosystem. That's why it's called the Swindler's Swamp." Satotz raised his finger to his chin and held his elbow. "Follow me closely, and stay focused. If you don't, you're lost.

"That's nice of him to warn us. He can't dupe someone who's on the lookout for tricks!" Leorio was overjoyed that he had to do less running and just more perception.

"THAT'S A LIE! HE'S LYING!" All of the examinees turned and looked at the voice that was crying out to them. Around the corner of the exit of the tunnel, a bruised and beaten-looking dude came out. He staggered into sight while dragging something behind him.

"He's an impostor!! He's not the examiner! I'm the real examiner!" The man accused, pointing at Satotz, who had a blank look on his face.

"An impostor?! But...!"

"Then who--or what--is he?!" The examiners debated.

'YOU SO SUSSY!!!' Yukana couldn't help but shout in his head, and almost chuckled out loud because of his own joke.

"I'll show you!!" The "examiner" yelled out and pulled out what he was dragging from behind his back.

"He's one of the wetland creatures--The man-faced ape!!" The examiner pulled out a skinny monkey-looking creature that was beat up. The only part about it that didn't look like a monkey was the hair and moustache that looked almost exactly like Satotz.

'Heh, I won't be fooled. Clearly, Satotz has no mouth and that monkey thingy does. How foolish.' Yukana smiled smugly, but it went unnoticed by almost everyone.

"They lust after fresh human flesh, but are too eak of limb to capture prey on their own. So they disguise themselves and lead a crowd of humans to the wetlands, where, in cooperation with other creatures, they capture them alive!! This time they're out to swipe up the entire hunter applicant pool!" The man had his entire speech interrupted by eight cards flying out in all directions. Three cards embedded into his head. The next four were caught by Satotz, and the last one was cut in half by Yukana.

"Heh heh. I see." Hisoka creepily mumbled out, attention being drawn to him as he shuffled a deck of cards, uncaring to the fact he just killed a man. Or was it? (amogus)

The tiny monkey that laid on the floor next to the dead man "regained consciousness" and glanced around. With a small "Eek!", the monkey hopped off, but his escape was stopped by Hisoka. Hisoka threw two cards that planted themselves in the back of the monkey's head.

"!! That monkey was playing possum!" The examinees realized.

"Now we know. He's the real thing." Hisoka stopped shuffling the deck of cards and turned towards Satotz, who flicked a card out of his hand.

Yukana was fuming at this. "Oi! Why'd you throw a card at me?!" He drew everyone's attention to the two halves of cards laying in the ground.

"Just curious~" Yukana felt a shiver go gown his spine at Hisoka's answer.

"Examiners are hunters who do this, without pay, at the request of the judging committee. A simple hunter, which we ourselves aspire to become, would have no trouble dodging my attack."

Satotz was not as happy as Hisoka was though. "I shall take that as a compliment. But, the next attack on me, for any reason, will be grounds for immediate disqualification. Understood?"

"Sure."

"..."

A flock of gigantic birds began flying overhead, but dived down towards the dead body of the disguised monkey. The birds latched onto the dead body of the animal and and began to chew off bits and pieces of him.

"The law of the jungle is disgusting!" Leorio grimaced at the nature of the birds that picked up the dead man and flew off.

"It is what it is." A wry smile grew on Yukana's face.

"Nice ruse, saying I'm an impostor in order to confuse examinees into taking the wrong path--right into their clutches." Satotz adjusted his magical moustache. "That's the sort of life-or-death deception that makes the swamp the perilous and fascinating place it is. I'm sure many of you were swayed-" Leorio and the shinobi from earlier nervously scratched their mouths and laughed. "-and started having doubts about me. Well, so much for that. To the second phase."

...

311 examinees remain to head into the Milsy Wetlands.

...

The large group of examinees ran into the thick terrain of the wetlands, Satotz having a faster speed than before. "Another blasted marathon!" "Running through mud! Ick!" Many examinee's voices rang out through the group.

Slowly, but surely, a fog creeped up on the group as their boots and shoe trekked through the wetlands and into the more dense part of the forest. They could barely see 20 feet in front of them.

'Dammit! My horns won't even work! They're going crazy about all directions!' The tips of Yukana's lips dipped into a frown. He slowly drifted towards Gon and Killua

"Gon, Yukana, let's get in front." Killua suggested to the two. "Right. Gotta keep the examiner in sight." Gon agreed, to which Yukana nodded to.

"Yeah, and it'll get us away from Hisoka." Gon perked up in confusion to Killua's statement. "He's killed, and wants to kill again. The fog will make great cover." Killua could barely see it, but he saw Hisoka's creepy smile while licking his lips in the fog.

...

"Mmm? He's survived this far. I wonder what will happen next." The large entity, known to Yukana as GOD, tapped away on a virtual screen.

"Mhm... This, this, and this. Yeah. Lets do this." A portal opened up beside him and an angelic soul drifted through. GOD turned to the soul and pointed at himself in an innocent expression, then to the angel.

"You. New Angel. I want you to spice up this new "show"." The GOD mocked Yukana, to which the angelic soul pulsated in agreement as it was given the screen for editing the world of Hunter x Hunter.

...

"You're wondering how I know. The fact is, I'm like him. I can smell it in him." Killua acted (sus)piciously.

"You're like him? You don't seem so." Gon didn't let Killua's statement faze him.

"Heh! I'm just playing innocent. You'll see."

"Hmm. No. Hisoka is the creepy creepy, while you're just the mysterious creepy." Yukana seemed proud in his statement, but only lead Killua to be mad.

"You're the one talking!"
