2 Canon Starts, Stealing the MC’s Thunder and Confrontation

They reached their classroom without any other delays, and sat together at the second row closest to the front of the classroom. As they waited, Ren looked around, he saw Du Ze and the rest of the sponsored students, as he looked at each one, he got nods of respect and gratitude from all of them. He nodded back at each and every one.

Chen Ren looked around for a bit more until he found Nie Li, he wanted to make sure he knew where he was located in order to keep an eye on him and see if he will reincarnate or not.

You see, all the contingency plans that Chen Ren had set up will start taking effect if this was Nie Li's second life. If it was the first, then he had been spending sleepless nights planning and scheming for over a year for nothing.

He had no intention of harming an ignorant kid. So, if Nie li did not reincarnate he was planning to speak with him and sponsor his development as well.

His eyes then focused on Shen Yue; he was glaring at him while giving lustful glances at Ziyun. Chen Ren's relationship, and that of the Divine Family, with the Sacred Family had started to deteriorate ever since the Divine Family assisted the Winged Dragon Family. It wasn't that much of a surprise considering that the decline of Ning'er's family was a plot by them to gain control of it.

It got worse the more the Divine Family thwarted their schemes time and time again. Though for Shen Yue was more personal seeing as Chen Ren had taken the position of Ziyun's fiancé right from under his nose.

Ren sent a smirk of triumph towards She Yue, something that ticked him of, and returned his attention to his fiancés.

A few minutes later Shen Xiu entered the classroom. Ren could hear the other students gossip about her and her family the Sacred Family.

He looked to his right, where Ning'er was sitting, as he had expected there was a scowled expression on her face. Now a third party would be wondering, why was Xiao Ning'er making such an expression? Well, the answer for those in the know, was quite simple really.

During the time when there were talks of marrying Ning'er off to Shen Fei, Shen Xiu had paid Ning'er a visit. She had laughed at Ning'er's face saying how her nephew would break her and turn her into a sex toy, and the younger girl could do nothing about it. The class started their lesson and Shen Xiu first lesson was pretty much the same thing as the novel. Thankfully Chen Ren remembered this scene from the novel very well, so he knew at what part of the speech Nie Li would gain control of his younger self, if this was the second life.

Just as Shen Xiu was reaching the expected point in her speech Ren felt a strange energy flow into the room and then enter Nie Li, it appeared that the old geezer had arrived.

Well…, second life it is.

Chen Ren discreetly kept his eye on Nie Li as he got ready, he was about to steal the geezer's thunder.

He saw him get excited and happy seeing alive people he knew were dead, and when his eyes fell on Ziyun he even teared up a bit. Chen Ren saw his interaction with Lu Piao and thanks to his cultivation he heard him claim that Ziyun was his woman. That annoyed him quite a bit, and glancing at both his fiancés expressions he knew they heard him as well and they were not amused.

In retaliation he put his hand over Ziyun's shoulder and brought her close to him, the girls knew what he was doing and Ziyun rested her head a bit on his shoulder while Ning'er smirked.

Jealousy sprung from his heart as he watched his Ziyun in the arms of another. Though as he studied his opposition, he couldn't help but get confused. Who was that guy? He had no memories of him. And weren't there talks to engage Ziyun to Shen Yue at this time?

"Hey Lu Piao, who is that?" He asked as he pointed at Chen Ren. Lu Piao's eyes widened at the question.

"What? You do not remember Chen Ren!? The second young master of the Divine Family!? We were talking about him just before class! Did you hit your head or something?" Lu Piao said as he narrowed his eyes and made a face that could only be described as suspicious with a big dose of comic relief.

Nie Li laughed awkwardly not sure how he should answer that.

"It appears so." He said with a care free smile hoping to not make Lu Piao suspicious. "Why don't you remind me about him." He said further in order to change the topic and gain information about this unknown.

"Well, the most important thing about him is that he is engaged to both Ziyun and Ning'er." Whatever Nie Li expected, that piece of information was not it. How was it possible that both fiancés of the Sacred Family heirs were now engaged to someone else?

Before he could ask anything else he was cut off by Shen Xiu.

"You two stop talking in class!" She told them in a strict tone of voice. Both boys shit up and turned their attention back to her. Nie Li's mind though was running a mile a minute, forming plans to get as much information as possible about this Chen Ren and anything else that might be different than what he remembered.

Shen Xiu dispelled her transformation and started talking about the deferent levels of nobility and how the number of experts effected a family's status.

Chen Ren got ready his window of opportunity was approaching and the time frame of said opening was a small one.

Just as she told the students of common families to give up, and sensing Nie Li ready to interrupt, Chen Ren suddenly raised his hand and spoke in a polite yet authoritative voice.

"Excuse me, teacher Shen Xiu, I have a few questions I would like to ask you." Though his words were in the form of a request many, Shen Xiu included, got the instinctive feeling that it was a command, one that she couldn't refuse.

"Yes, what is the question?" She asked, while being careful with her worlds. This was the second young master of the Divine Family, one of the two families that were higher in Glory City's hierarchy then her own Sacred Family. Plus, the feeling she got from his tone of voice made her instinctively be on guard.

"Teacher Shen Xiu proclaimed that Glory City is the only city that managed to survive through the age of darkness, tell me have we managed to map and explore the entire world?" At his question Shen Xiu was taken by surprise, what kind of question was that?

"Of course we haven't, such a feet would be impossible." She answered not sure where he was taking the conversation.

"In that case, how do you know that there are no other human cities out there?" This new question shocked every person in the classroom, with the exception of Ning'er and Ziyun, who knew about his theories. Before Shen Xiu could answer, Chen Ren started talking again.

"The world is vast. Sure, from what information we have it would appear that we are the last bastion of humanity. But who can say for sure that other groups didn't follow our ancestors idea to move into a similarly defensible location, like the one Glory City currently resides in, and create their own settlement?" His words were logical, as such Shen Xiu couldn't refute them, and it was driving her mad.

The chatter from the rest of the students was very energetic, the idea that somewhere out there could be another human city was never crossed their minds. It was an incredible thought.

"Another question teacher Shen Xiu, you said that a commoner will remain as such no matter what they try, right?" He asked while looking at her right in the eyes, his piercing gaze made Shen Xiu to falter, but she still answered.

"Yes, that's right." Though she tried, she wasn't able to hide the hesitation in her voice. Chen Ren closed his eyes, softly shook his head negatively, as if disappointed by her answer, before he opened them again and looked at her in the eyes.

"Tell me teacher Shen Xiu, wasn't Lord Ye Mo born a commoner? Are you perhaps not aware of this?" His words stirred the commoner students up, giving them hope.

Shen Xiu decided to crush that hope, before those commoner trash got any funny ideas, by pointing out how so many had failed where only Ye Mo had succeeded. She then got out the scroll that had the entry marks of everyone in the class. When she saw that Chen Ren had a Yellow Realm with a Soul Force of 56, she scoffed.

"Chen Ren, you like to talk big but with Yellow Realm and a Soul Force of 56 you would barely reach Silver Rank in about 20 years. Unlike Shen Yue here who has a Green Realm, you will not accomplish much." She said arrogantly gaining some of her confidence back.

Many of the students lowered their heads, their new hope dashed, while some of them snickered at what they thought was Chen Ren's empty bravado. All of them expected him to sit back down in shame, instead they were shocked when they saw the smirk that appeared on his face.

"Is that what you think?" He asked as he folded his arms in front of him. "In that case how about a bet?" His words intrigued everyone present, even his fiancés, Shen Xiu rose an eyebrow showing her mild interest.

"Oh? What kind of bet?" She asked him to clarify.

"Simple really, I bet that on the coming test in two months' time I will have reached the Rank of a Silver Demon Spiritualist. If I fail, I will leave the Institute and give you 10 million Demon Spirit coins." At his words everyone's eyes grew wide, not only would he lose his chance to be a Demon Spiritualist, if he leaves the Institute, but was willing to bet such a large amount of money!? Before anyone could say anything, he continued.

"However… should I manage to reach Silver Rank you will not only quit from your position as a teacher but you will also owe me a favor, a favor that you will not be able to refuse." At his words Shen Xiu narrowed her eyes in suspicion.

"What kind of favor?"

"You do not need to know yet, but if it makes you feel better both Ziyun and Ning'er will be present when I tell you." Seeing her hesitating he decided to egg her on.

"What is the matter teacher Shen Xiu? Afraid of losing and being proven wrong?" The twitching of her eyebrow was proof that he was getting to her.

"Ha, me afraid of such a foolish bet? What a joke, very well I will take this bet, just make sure you have the money ready when you lose." Without losing his smirk Chen Ren nodded and sat back down, he then winked at his fiancés, showing that he had a plan.

Nie Li was looking at Chen Ren with narrowed eyes, he was an unknown, and he did not like it.

The class ended without any more interruptions. Just as everyone was about to leave the classroom Chen Ren guided Ziyun and Ning'er towards Nie Li.

"Excuse me, can we talk with you in privet?" Chen Ren asked Nie Li, with both girls right behind him.

Nie Li narrowed his eyes a bit before nodding, and all four of them left the classroom for a more private setting.

When they reached an empty park Chen Ren turned to look at Nie Li, Ziyun and Ning'er by their fiancé side.

"Nie Li, I saw how you looked at Ziyun, it was an impure look full of lust." At his words Ziyun grabbed his arm for comfort, while Ning'er frowned at the reincarnated geezer.

Seeing Ziyun's action Nie Li frowned in anger, who was this brat that dared to try and take his woman. He clenched his fists in anger and narrowed his eyes and his faced frowned in a glare.

"I have no quarrel with you, but if you do not stop harassing Ziyun, who is my fiancé in case you did not know, I will have no choice but to retaliate." At Chen Ren's words Nie Li tsked in annoyance, before he smiled arrogantly.

"I do not know you are exactly, but Ziyun is my woman, and I will have her no matter what you do." His words scared Ziyun, and she got closer to Chen Ren for comfort.

Her actions made Nie Li frown in annoyance once more.

"Nie Li I am warning you right here right now leave Ziyun alone or else." Nie Li smirked again and folded his arms in front of his chest.

"Or else what? You will kill me? So much for a member of the Noble Divine Family." Nie Li said hopping to rile up the other teen.

He did not succeed, however, as Chen Ren let out a sign as he shook his head in disappointment.

"There are a lot of things worse in this world then death you know. Since you are not willing to back off do not blame me for any misfortune that might befall you. It will just be the consequences of your actions." With those final words he and the girls turned to leave, only for Nie Li to speak again.

"You claim that you are engaged to Ziyun, but do you even know anything about her?" At his words they all stopped and looked back at him, the girls in puzzlement, and ren with his eyes widening a bit.

'Surely he isn't going to bring that up? He can't be that stupid!?' Thought Chen Ren as he turned to face Nie Li properly.

"What are you talking about?" He asked hopping, for Ziyun's sake, that he wouldn't bring up what he thought he would.

Nie Li smirked as if he had already won and said in tone of voice that mirrored his expression.

"If you know her so well then do you know where the butterfly birth mark is one her body?" His question made Ziyun blush in horror, as she held on to Chen Ren tighter for comfort, the fact that someone other than her fiancé and sister-wife knew about it would mean that she was peeped on! She wanted to die from the humiliation she felt.

Ning'er on the other hand exclaimed in surprise and disbelief, that someone other than the three of them knew about it. Her expression then turned into rage. Did this scumbag peep on her sister? Oh, there would hell to pay.

Chen Ren's eyebrow twitched in annoyance, along with his hands spamming as he tried to contain the desire to strangle this immature 300-year-old geezer. He knew that Nie Li had that information from his previous life, but that did not mean he should announce it so brazenly.

'He really is that stupid!' Chen Ren thought as he took a deep breath in order to calm down. As much as he would like to pummel him, if he was the instigator of any form of physical violence he would be considered at fault. No matter the reason behind his actions.

He narrowed his eyes and spoke while a frown was on his face.

"I thought you lived under a rock up until this time, and was just ignorant of Ziyun's engagement to me. But to hear you proudly speak of your own depraved actions, is something I never thought a member of an Aristocratic family would do, you are such a degenerate." His words were filled with anger, he could scarcely imagine how Ziyun must feel at that moment.

Nie Li took a step back in surprise, not understanding their reactions. Ziyun was his true love; isn't it natural for him to know those things?

"For this humiliation you have inflicted upon one of my loves there will be consequences." Chen Ren finished saying as he left, with Ziyun and Ning'er following right behind him. As they exited the park Ziyun stepped closer to Ren.

"Ren… what are you going to do to Nie Li?" She asked with a bit of concern, she did not want to put her fiancé into a difficult position, even though he felt dread over the fact that some boy she had never spoken before knew of something so personal and private.

Chen Ren smiled at her, stopped walking, and held her hand in comfort as he answered.

"I will not harm him physically, if that is what you are asking." He reassured her. His words did calm Ziyun down a bit, but Ning'er interjected.

"Why not? That scum dared to do… that to Ziyun, he deserves punishment." At her words Chen Ren turned towards her and nodded.

"I never said I will not retaliate." He answered Ning'er's accusation of inaction, before he turned his attention back to the road they were on and stated walking again, the girls following right behind him.

"In our world losing face is something far worse than losing your life. I will simply humiliate him and destroy his reputation. After I am done, he will never cause us any more trouble." Chen Ren said with conviction, in all truth he did not have any true ill will towards Nie Li, up util the point he put his foot in his mouth. Now he intended to teach him a lesson.

The three headed towards the Divine Family's mansion, they were going to go cultivate in Ren's personal courtyard for a few hours before diner.

After they greeted his parents they moved into Chen Ren's personal courtyard, it was quite beautiful, with well-maintained plants and even a koi pond. Close to the center, right next to a beautiful tree was an elevated circled patio made out of marble. On top of it there were three meditation mats waiting for them.

Without much fuss the three of them sat on the mats, took a cultivation pill each and started cultivating.

As he cultivated, Chen Ren thought about the cultivation technique the Library had created after it had assimilated all the books he had added over the years from all over Glory City, the Darkness Void Dragon God Technique.

This technique was created by mixing numerous other techniques perfectly, and it gave him a number of advantages.

One of them was that, like the Heavenly God technique, which was used in its creation, when in use it allows the user to train both their Soul Force and enhance the strength of the physical body at the same time. Another benefit it inherited from the Heavenly God technique it's efficiency of absorbing the positives that come from pills and other sources of Soul Force. Also like its main parent technique it allows one to communicate with Heaven and Earth, drastically raising ones compression of Heavenly Energy.

A unique characteristic of the Darkness Void Dragon God Cultivation Technique is that once a user enters Silver Rank it transforms their Formless Soul Form into the form of a Black Hole with 12 white stars orbiting said Black Hole at its edges.

At this stage the user can then intergrade up to 13 Demon Spirits into his Soul Sea. The first one the user takes on must be of the Void attribute and takes residence in the center of the Black Hole. Afterwards the rest of the Demon Spirits can be of any Attribute and each reside in one of the 12 White Stars.

Now there is a major difference between the use of Demon Spirits of this technique and the Heavenly God.

With the Darkness Void Dragon God Technique the user can't use the 12 orbiting Spirits on their own, instead he siphons their energies into the Main Spirit while he is transformed, thus giving both himself and the Main Spirit the strength, power and abilities of the selected spirit.

It's like a temporary upgrade of the Main Spirit with the use of the selected secondary one.

Getting his mind out of any distracting thoughts, Chen Ren completely focused on his cultivation.

A few hours later a servant came to remind them of the diner plans they had with his family with enough time for them to take a bath and get ready.

"I want you to track and keep an eye on a new student of the Institute by the name of Nie Li. He has insulted both me and Ziyun, I intend to humiliate him and make him lose all face. Tomorrow around this time I want you to make sure he is secure and unconscious, then come inform me of his location, I will do the rest." As he finished speaking, he turned his head to the left and watched the Gold Rank Expert nod and salute before she disappeared from the room in a burst of speed.

Chen Ren nodded to himself, the original goal of this cloak and dagger was to get the reincarnated geezer unconscious in the same place as him, before he has a chance to reach 1 Star Bronze Rank, so he can use the Library of Heaven's Path to copy all the knowledge that was stored inside that 300-year-old brain of his.

Now though, he had already improvised a few extra goals.

Plus, Chen Ren had every intention to stop Nie Li from getting any of the power-ups he got in canon, he had already talked with his family regarding the expedition to the Ancient Orchid City Ruins, days ago.

Thanks to the alterations he had made in the timeline the expedition was no longer a secret one that Chen Linjian did for recognition, instead it had turned into a family trip. Only their father, mother and the brothers would go, along with a few guards and Ren's fiancés.

Thanks to the 'information found in a journal' that Chen Ren had 'translated' he had already pinpointed the 'likely' locations of the treasury to them. As such they had decided to keep the riches mostly for the Divine Family, with his girls taking some good treasures for themselves.

The end result was that no one knew about the expedition, and Nie Li would get neither the power boost, nor the page of the Temporal Demon Spirit Book from the tomb.

Plus, at dinner both girls badmouthed Nie Li and his actions, making it impossible for him to befriend Ren's brother, or any other member of the Divine Family for that matter.

That was also the reason why Chen Zhenlong had given permission to his son to use their tracker expert after he had privately informed him, a few minutes after dinner, of what he would do to Nie Li.

The only reason they decided not to punish him officially, in the name of the Divine and Snow Wind Families, was to save Ziyun's reputation.

With those final thoughts Chen Ren went to get ready for bed, he had to go to the Alchemy Association tomorrow after class in order to make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for Nie Li gain funding by presenting pills and gaining an Alchemy Mastery.

Nie Li was alone, laying down on a branch in a tree inside the Holy Orchid Institute's training ground thinking of everything he had learned about the differences between the Glory City he remembered and the Glory City he found himself in now.

Quite a few things were different, chief among them was the power structure of the city and the enormous influence that the Divine Family had acquired over the last decade.

Still, he had not spent too much time on it, he had to become powerful and fast, he first needed a Soul Crystal, so he had been hunting Horned Sheep as a way to get capital, after he knew which cultivation technique was most suited him, he would plan accordingly.

What really got on his nerves was the fact that Lu Piao did not support him in his bid to get Ziyun as his woman. It turned out that he and a number of their fellow classmates were being sponsored by the Divine Family, as such they did not dare go against them.

The end result was Nie Li being alone on his quest to become powerful.

So busy he was thinking, he did not notice the figure observing him. It was the Gold Rank Expert of the Divine Family; she was silently observing her target but, on the inside, she was fuming.

She had heard the ginger monologue about how he would make the young lady Ziyun love him and teach 'the bastard Chen Ren' his place.

So, with renewed conviction she continued observing her target, waiting patiently for the time to strike.
