6 Alkyone

Queen Hippolyta was currently having her dinner in peace along with her now two-year-old daughter, Diana.

Diana meanwhile just relentlessly ate her food, not caring about table manners as she devoured food after food as her hand doesn't seem to be stopping in picking more food any time soon.

If anyone saw her, they would have think that she's a glutton or was just too hungry. But they wouldn't have thought that Diana was actually trying to drown the sadness that has welled up within her after learning of her little brother's passing.

She was undoubtedly sad after knowing about her little brother's death, as she has always dreamt of a sibling or to meet anyone that was at least near her age that she could play and be friends with.

In Themyscira, Diana was the only one in her age. No one was currently in the same age as her as it hasn't been that long ever since Queen Hippolyta lead the revolt to fight men for all the Amazons' freedom.

She has always wished to meet anyone in the same age as her, so when she found out that she would soon have a little brother, she was happy and excited to meet him more than anyone else.

So one could only imagine the sadness and disappointment she felt after getting her hopes crushed into pieces with the saddening news that her mother told her earlier.

Diana stuffed another food into her mouth while wiping a stray tear that has fallen from her eyes.

Queen Hippolyta watched her daughter in sadness. She knows why her usually cheerful daughter was acting this way.

But what could she do?

Tell Diana the truth that her brother is alive but was imprisoned? Not to say, with the orders of her own mother?

Diana would surely hate her for doing so, no matter how logical her explanation would may be.

Hippolyta doesn't want that to happen. She was already deprived of her chance to raise her son because of the Oracle, so she would never allow anything that could affect her and her daughter's relationship.

Hippolyta ignored Diana's lack of table manners just for today as she knows that she's still sad about her brother's death.

Hippolyta may look fine as usual on the outside, but she's actually not that different from her daughter in the inside. But unlike her daughter, her heart was full of guilt more than sadness.

To think that a mother would put her own child in a dungeon. But this is the only way or the safest way that she could think of to avoid the future.

She could not find the strength to kill him so that plan was crossed out. At first, she may have wanted to, but after seeing him for the first time, Hippolyta could not bring herself to kill her own child anymore.

So she thought of the Dungeon. Imprisonment.

Why? Because as the saying goes. Once a frog lived all it's life in a well, it would think that the world is just as big as the well, or the well is the world itself. So by going in that manner, Hippolyta hoped that her child would remain as clueless of the world as he can be.

She wanted him to remain pure! Untainted! The safest way?

Imprisonment.

Isolation.

She would cut all ties that might tie her son to the outside world by putting him in the dungeon. After all, what good could it bring to them if she raise him with love and care?

Call her paranoid, but the future is unpredictable, she don't know if something or someone could corrupt her son in the future and turn him to the very person that he is that their Oracle saw in the future.

No matter how you raise someone with all the love and care, they could still change. Either because of someone or something.

So to prevent that, Hippolyta imprisoned her own child.

A child would always be the most innocent being in the world. Thus, she believed that her son would remain innocent, pure and ignorant as long as she isolate him to the rest of the world.

That way, everyone would be safe and her child would still be alive.

Alas, she doesn't know that her child was far from normal.

*Tap*

*Tap*

*Tap*

Large powerful strides echoed in the distance.

Hippolyta raised her brows as she turned to the large door, waiting for the owner of those footsteps to arrive as she was also curious to know who it is.

*Bam*

The large double door was opened, revealing a bald woman with fit physique and an aura different from an average Amazon.

She also has several scars present in her face that she got from numerous battles that she had participated before, but instead of feeling shame about her scars, she looks like she took pride of it instead.

Seeing the bald woman, Hippolyta slowly asked. "Alkyone, what brings you here?"

The bald woman is none other than Alkyone. Former captain of Queen Hippolyta's royal guard. She was demoted, punished and imprisoned for two years because of her attempt to murder the newborn Diana back then.

Hippolyta was so enraged at that time that she personally gave Alkyone a beating until she was beaten black and blue, almost killing her.

"My Queen". Alkyone respectfully greeted as she bowed to Hippolyta. Her eyes revealed respect and trust whenever she was looking at her queen, but a single glance at Diana made her face almost distort into a frown. Luckily, she controlled herself from doing so.

Alkyone masked her hate to Diana as she then talked about the reason why she's there.

"My Queen, I heard that you finally gave birth to your son".

Hearing this, Hippolyta suddenly raised her hand to stop Alkyone from speaking as she turned to Diana.

"Diana, dear. Go to your room first, you could also bring those food back to your room. I have something important to talk with her. Mother would tell you a story later, okay?" Hippolyta softly said to Diana.

Diana stopped eating as she nodded in understanding.

"Yes, mother". She answered as she grabbed her food to bring them to her room.

When Diana was finally out of the place, Hippolyta's expression immediately turned serious, her demeanor changed as she slowly spoke. "And? What is it to you?"

Alkyone was still looking at her queen in reverence as she stated. "My Queen, Let me prove my use once again".

"What are you suggesting exactly?" Hippolyta asked, but her tone sounds dangerous.

"Let me guard the dungeon, my Queen". Alkyone said with conviction in her voice.

"You want to prove your use, but you wanted to guard the dungeon?" Hippolyta asked with one of her brows raised.

"Yes, my Queen. I want to guard the dungeon, but not the dungeon itself, I meant the cell where your child was held". Alkyone nodded.

"Why so?" Hippolyta didn't agree immediately, this woman in front of her swore to protect her with her own life, and she really did on many occasions. But she tried to kill Diana two years ago, so she just could not bring herself to trust her again like before.

"My Queen, there is no duty that is more important than guarding the dungeon that the person that might destroy Themyscira in the future was held". Alkyone seriously replied.

Hippolyta fell silent as she contemplated what Alkyone just said. Indeed, the future is always unpredictable, what are the chances that someone would not accidentally break her son out of the dungeon? The chances might be miniscule, but it's still possible.

Alkyone here was a former captain of the royal guard. She's stronger than an average Amazon, in fact, she's not that far off from Antiope in terms of skills and strength.

Alkyone was also a great leader, tactician and most of all, very loyal to her. When she beat up Alkyone because of her attempt to kill Diana, Alkyone never resisted.

She only let her live till this day as Alkyone has served and saved her from potential deaths numerous times before, but she really just couldn't bring herself to trust Alkyone again.

"My Queen, trust me. I'll prove my use once again. I'll make sure that the future that the Oracle saw wouldn't happen, I swear with my life and honor as a warrior that I would surely complete this duty". Alkyone seriously stated.

Hippolyta was silent for a while, seemingly lost in thought.

A couple of minutes later, Hippolyta heavily sighed as she spoke. "I need some time to decide. You can go now". She dismissed Alkyone as Hippolyta gestured for her to go.

Alkyone respectfully bowed to her queen as she walked away to give her queen some time to decide.

When she was on the hallway, she momentarily glance at Diana's room with an evil glint in her eyes. But she then masked it away, leaving the place with a sinister grin on her face.
