12 Training

Inside the library, I found Wang sitting before the only table in the library.

"Hi, my name is Harry, the Ancient One told me to come here." I said.

"Yes," He stood up and said, "The Ancient One warned you would be coming. You can call me Master Wang."

"Alright." I said and Wang went around the library collecting 8 books before putting them on the table with a loud 'THUMP'.

"These books are your first assignment. You must complete them before you start learning the mystic arts. You are expected in the courtyard every morning starting tomorrow at 6:30 for martial training." He said before sitting on his seat ignoring me.

"Thank.. you... I guess." I said but he didn't look up. I turned my attention to the books on the table then left for my room.

The books were for the most part language books, Sanskrit, Latin, Arabic.. the others introducing the way of the mystic arts. Setting the books on the table, I started with the languages.

With an IQ of 267, information processing is a joke. I finished and comprehended all the 8 books completely before the sun rose up. And that was only because I scrolled the pages at normal speed. I had wanted to go back to the library but I remembered our martial training and it was almost time. I put on my mutant inhibitor ring and headed out.

All the disciples gathered in the courtyard. We were a total of 13 students, mostly teens or young adults, going through series of moves under the guidance and supervision of Master Mordo. I recognized kung fu, judo and many others in the mix. The aim of this training according to Mordo was to strengthen the body to better react and practice magic.

I was on my way to my room after a well deserved shower when an apprentice told me that the Ancient One instructed, I visit the library to collect more books. Man! the time stone was really useful. The books that awaited me this time, seemed to have gone in more details on magic, having actual spells and such.

I already knew that everyone could become a sorcerer, it was the why that I didn't know. It turns out that the Ancient One saying spells were programs for the source code that is the universe is quite literal. Every being born in this multiverse has a connection to their universe and further down the line, to the multiverse. By using sorcery, they could cause part of the source code to behave in one way or another. Throughout the ages, sorcerers have discovered and recorded the resulting effect of certain actions (spells).

There exist however the issue of aptitude. Aptitude is two folds. First those that have a strong connection to the universe have an almost instinctual way to use spells, then there is also the energies available to that person. The first one is determined at birth but the second can more easily be boosted by making a deal with those having more energy.

The three sources of magic are Personal energies: that Chi masters harness to do superhuman feats. In sorcery however, it is used perform astral projection, telepathy, hypnotism and telekinesis. As Universal energies and Dimensional energies, they power spells, like Tao Mandalas, portal creation, and virtually anything in the case of dimensional energy.

It turns out that having my soul literally being an energy realm, I have a pretty high aptitude at sorcery, as well as vast reserves. Upon learning that, I decided to forget drawing energy from any other dimension. According to the books, these extra-dimensional entities must be entreated by the sorcerer using ritualistic spells and possibly a promise or sacrifice of some method, which worried me.

I closed the book and started training casting spells. For I knew, I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

======================[Fifteen months time skip]========================

It's been almost a year and half since I started learning magic under the Ancient One. As I didn't really need to sleep, I spent almost all my time training on spells, telekinesis, whips and runes. So far, mandalas are by far my favorite. They are the most versatile of spells.
