A second chance

Sometimes all you need is a second chance, because time wasn't ready for the first one. -🌈☁️

I groaned as a bright light seeped through my eyelids, and a headache was banging against my head. What happened? Did someone saved me? Or am I dead? Wanting my questions answered I drowsily open my eyes and yawned, in a very un-lady-like manner.

"Sleeping beauty is finally awake." A familiar voice chuckled from beside me making me jump in surprise as I turn my attention to the source.

There stood my lovely Nanny, Maria, standing next to the bed..my bed?! I was laying on?

"Am I dreaming? Is this heaven? Is that really you, Maria?" I gasped as happy tears flowed out of my tired eyes. Its been a long time since I've cried, I thought I lost the ability to, ever since that dreadful day. The day of my execution.

What's going on?

She touched my forehead, ever so lightly, with her aged slender fingers. She looked the same, since I last saw her. Her grey-black hair was tied up into a proper bun, with the same wrinkled yet elegant face displayed before me.

"Of course its me. Are you okay, Princess? You had quite a fever last night." She asked worriedly and I whimpered at her never ending kindness, that I never deserved. I treated her so poorly, worse than a rag doll. Yet smile was always stretched upon her face when she sees me, and eyes looking sincerely gentle.

My lips trembled as I grabbed her hand and pull the 50 year old women, who had taken care of me since young, into a tight hug. I knew she was shock by my action as she remained stiff, not knowing what to do, but soon she hugged back. The old me, would never do this, EVER.

"What's gotten into you dear. Its not like..you. I-I mean its not a bad thing, i-in fact its rather adorable." She rambled and I chuckled through tears at her confusion. After we were both satisfied, we pulled away, and smiled at each other.

"I'm so sorry, for everything I did. Will you ever forgive me, nonna?" I begged, holding onto her dainty hands. Her eyes immediately widened at my words, and a small pool of water rushes into her vision. She had always wanted me to call her 'nonna' ever since I could speak, it means grandmother in Italian. Maria treated me as if I was her flesh and blood grandchild, but I never bothered to care how she feels..or anybody else of that matter. Not even my parents.

"Is mom and dad...here?" I asked Maria, gulping nervously, as there was a tiny doubt inside my head barking that, this was all just a dream.

Just my imagination.

"Of course, they're at the dining room." She replied as she makes my bed. I smiled and gave Maria a kiss on the cheeks, resulting in her to jump in surprise.

"Get use to it nonna. And please don't me Princess anymore its too formal." I said before rushing out to the dining room.

Sprinting down the majestic hallway and stairs, I could see the maids that I used to constantly torment, were busying themselves preparing breakfast at the palace's kitchen. I should give them a long break.

The look of their tired faces really haunts back unpleasant memories of my childhood. Feeling of guilt stabbed me mercilessly.

Passing by the kitchen I finally reach the tall, detailed golden door of the dining room, my hands begins to twitch and sweat uncontrollably as I reach of the door knob.

I didn't know how long I've been standing there like an idiot, till a sudden voice behind gave me a jump-scare.

"Um, Princess, are you going to enter?" The person asked politely, but I still can hear sarcasm dripping from his steady tone. As if he was annoyed by the fact that he's been waiting for me to open the door for quite a while now.

I turned around and smiled at the unknown person nervously, but only to see a familiar face. He had striking red hair that was messily ruffled and dark chocolate eyes twinkling with irritation. I'd be lying to my 25 year old mind in my...now year old body, if I didn't say he was drooling-worthy handsome.

"I'm sorry Adam, you can go ahead." I offered as I moved out of his way. However, he stood rooted to the ground, looking at me as if I've grown an extra pair of eyes.

Is he shocked by the fact that I remembered his name or the fact that I'm actually being nice?

*sigh* today I'll surely see a lot of shocked faces.

I knew how much he hated me, that's because I use to joke about him being in love with my older brother as he was my Alexander's best friend. At first he'd just laughed it off, but stupid old me just got to take things way to far from the line.

Incredibly bitchy and childish right?

"Are you okay?" I asked and he snapped back to normal, but I could see his eyes squinting in suspicion.

"U-uh yes Princess, why don't you enter first, it would be rude of me."

In this century, even an 18 year old like him had to bow down to me. Age is just number here, as long as you're of a higher rank, demands of respect you get.

I sighed at his fake respectfulness for me, but I can't be offended, I didn't do anything to earn it from anyone in the first place.

I didn't know what else to say and I also didn't want to go in first, so we both were standing awkwardly, waiting for the other to make the first move.

Then to get rid of the tension, I strike up a question to which I also want to find out.

"Hey, Adam, how old am I now?" I asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"You're 15, Princess. And your upcoming birthday is next week, the same date as your coming of age ceremony-"

"That's enough, Adam. Thank you for reminding me. And also remembering."

Since he rambled, even though I just asked for my age, he must have suspected me to test him. But rather, I just wanted to know how long, before that dreadful day is going to come again.

The day I got my heart stabbed through, in front of the entire land, but this time I shall make everything right and avoid Draco at all cost. Especially during my ceremony as he's going to be there for sure. Also another thing to take caution of, is Princess Mia. Who's soon going to be apart of our family, when my father would surprise me by announcing her as my 'step-sister'.

Pulling myself out of reverie, I put my attention back to Adam, who was 'patiently' waiting for me to go in.

"Shall we go in together, Sir Adam." I teased as I grinned and his mouth drops open while blushing from my sudden mention of 'Sir'. Here in our little Kingdom, calling a knight 'Sir', is a huge honour and a blessing to them.

"P-princess, thank you very much for your blessing. I shall do my best to meet your expectations." He suddenly panicked as he swiftly kneeled down in respect when suddenly the gigantic door open, revealing my eldest brother.
