15 Chapter 15: Chakra control is needed

After another six months, Shikamaru had managed to become fairly proficient at the art of using a Kusarigama, physical training was the same as always, grueling and beneficial, he had gotten much stronger than before and his stamina was getting better by the day.

He was sure he was stronger than a Genin, and could perhaps fight a Chunin, but he was severely lacking in ninjutsu and genjutsu, he knew zero genjutsu and only knew a couple of ninjutsu like the summoning technique and the henge.

After studying the basics of everything in the Nara library he was now required to choose which studies he would further himself in and he chose to master all the knowledge available, he would've been stupid not to, this included various shinobi arts and even more mundane things like cooking.

There was a seemingly limitless supply of information available to him, from basic information to the most classified information in existence, of course, he wasn't allowed to look at those files yet since he wasn't the clan head, but, in the future, he would know all the things about the world.

Currently, he would begin training his clan techniques with his father, usually, this would only happen once he entered the academy but he was a special case.

Shikaku looked at Shikamaru and started speaking "Shikamaru, I will give you a small history lesson on our clan, our clan is currently very well known for our Hiden techniques, but we were originally a clan that dealt with assassination, in the Warring States Era our clan would be hired by other clans to hunt and assassinate anyone and everyone, of course, now we only accept assassination jobs from Hokage-Sama and no one else, this is also the reason why you have been meditating every night in the dark, it is to erase your presence, you need to know how to disappear from the senses of others, our Hiden techniques simply aid us in assassinations, but if you are in a position with no shadows available for you you will still need to know how to fight without them, but since we have formed a trio with the Akimichi and Yamanaka clans our assassination techniques have been used less and less and teamwork more and more, over the last couple generations people have forgotten the might of the Nara clan, these days its always either the Hyuuga or the Uchiha, but with you, Shikamaru, we, the Nara clan will once again regain our power so from today onward I will no longer hold you back in your studies and training, and I will make you enter Anbu, we will discuss later whether or not you wish to join for now I will teach you our first assassination technique."

Shikamaru looked shocked by the words of his father, he was holding him back? since when? and Anbu? what was his father thinking? but he decided to keep his thoughts to himself for now and simply nodded at his father with determination in his eyes.

His father nodded at him, "Good, from today onward I will teach you a single technique every month, I expect you to master it to an acceptable degree, for this month you will learn a basic technique that uses a minuscule amount of chakra that is practically untraceable, it is called 'flash step' it is a movement technique that requires chakra control on par with medical ninja, so your first assignment will be to master the water walking exercise, once you master it you will need to run up a waterfall, once you finish that you will need to divide three colors of sand mixed together, each grain to their individual color, once you manage to do that I will teach Flash Step." after his father explained this to him he simply left Shikamaru alone.

Those requirements were simply crazy! medical-nin level control for a simple movement technique, well apparently it's not so simple at all if it needs that much chakra control, and now all of a sudden he wants me to join Anbu? Sigh, things are really starting to get troublesome, I will need to start training more seriously now I guess, it was still around noon so I had time to train my chakra control since it would be the thing I would train the most for the next month perhaps even longer.

First would be walking on water, for this, you continuously had to coat your foot with chakra and increase or decrease the amount according to the water below your foot, this would take considerable effort and concentration also a large amount of chakra if I wanted to keep going for a long time.

First I needed to know how much chakra I needed to just stand on the water, I could control my chakra immediately without delay and now it instinctively went to where I wanted it to, I didn't even need to focus on the gathering part but more on the controlling part, after falling into the water multiple times I managed to wobbly stand on water and it was a very strange feeling, it was as I was standing on solid ground that was constantly moving, just managing to find my balance was difficult to do, luckily the training with my mother required me to have good balance so I got the hang of it after a minute or so.

Now would come the difficult part. I would need to constantly control the amount of chakra coating my foot neither too much nor too little, my chakra reserves were far bigger than before, if before it comparable to a small marble now you could look at it as a baseball, so I had much more to control than at first and I would need to stay vigilant of the amount that went into my foot or I would fall into the water again.

Taking my first step was as if I just learned how to walk and after falling another couple of times I managed to stand solidly on the water after taking one step, from then on I kept on getting better to the point where I could slowly walk over the water.

This took me around 8 hours to achieve since I decided to ditch studying for the day I managed to get more a lot more training in than normal, but the part of the day I dreaded most was slowly approaching, namely; talking with my dad about Anbu.
