26 A fight with a big oaf -Chapter 22-

Walking into the Guild, I noticed numerous people of various variety. Elves, Dwarves looking people, even a few Beastmen! Some straight looked like animals standing up on two legs, while others just had parts of animals. Seems like those are the two categories of beastmen in this world.

There were tables filled to the brim with people, a bar serving drinks and stuff, a large board with papers posted to it, and a person standing behind a table. I assume they're some sort of registration, maybe I should talk to them first...

I walk up to the woman, Ai noticing, following close by.

"I'd like to sign us up as adventurers," I spoke quickly, trying to avoid prolonged conversation.

"Very well, please fill out this paper, and if you do not know how to write, please come with me to the back."

"Oh, I... Can't." A bit embarrassing to admit, but the truth it was.

"I see, understood. Pl--" The woman was cut off by another person's voice.

"I've seen ya kind time and time again, kids who think they're all that! You're the kind of people who think they're invincible, and also the kind who die quickly." A man wearing heavy leather armour appeared before me, he looked rugged and wild, stubble ridden on his face. I'd say he was pretty damn tall, around 6'1, with short hair, he looked pretty intimidating.

Now, I'm usually one to treat things with a particular calmness! But this guy, in simple terms, really pissed me off! First of all, he called me a kid! And I mean, back on earth, for this little character I'm playing, that would be true! But here, sixteen is the age of an adult! And, well, I didn't exactly enjoy this guys babbling.

"Mind your own business, you big oaf." A bit of a rude response, but he deserved it! Though, I didn't enjoy all the people staring at the both of us now.

"Oh, those are fighting words!"

"Maybe they are!" My annoyance began to show on my face.

"Both of you stop your arguing, battle is not permitted in the Guild, however, we do have a small area designated for mock battles. If you are to fight, do it there under the supervision of a Guild worker." The woman spoke, even more annoyed than me, obviously.

"Well, I'm fine with that! What about it, kid? Let's fight! If you win or can fight me for over five minutes, I'll let you and that Beastman join."

"Hmph, I don't need your permission to join, but I accept your little challenge!" My words surprised even me, when exactly had I become so confident? Oh, no matter, probably something to do with me becoming a monster. Hell, this might actually be good! I can make a name for myself before I even become an adventurer.

The Guild worker sighed, "Very well, do follow me." She left out of a door to the east of us, me and the man following close by. Ai too, by the way... And like sixteen other damn people. Jeez! Was this guy popular or something?

We made it to a relatively small open area, a rectangle painted on the ground, most likely to represent the area we are allowed to fight in. He stepped on one half of the area, so I guess I should go on the other half, which I did.

"This battle should last fifteen minutes, any serious injuries shall end the fight, or if somebody is too tired to fight any longer, the fight shall also end. Any objections?"

"Nope! None here." The man grinned, obviously not able to wait for this fight any longer. He unsheathed a greatsword, holding it in some sort of fighting stance.

"No." I unsheathed my longsword, as well as a small black-tipped dagger. See, I've had quite a long bit to think about my fighting style, and there's no reason for me to not have a weapon in my offhand. I'm not exactly someone who knows a lot about weapons and stuff, but I should at least work with what I have.

"Good, the battle shall begin."

immediately, the man rushed at me. I'll stay on the defensive until I can appraise them. I activate the skill, backing up a good bit.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, he doesn't have too many skills, but that Shield skill looks a bit scary, I should appraise it too, but I have to keep focused on the battle since Seralt is already about to attack me.

His attacks are heavy, meaning they're pretty easy to dodge... Though, if it hits me even once, I'll be pretty much done for. His attacks are pretty relentless though, so this could get pretty dangerous. That, and considering I can't use any of my Monster skills, puts me at a pretty large disadvantage.

Huh... Another thing, I usually don't think this calmly, especially in a fight like this. Strange, I'll chalk that up to me becoming a slime once again.

I dodge each strike, rather amazingly, might I add! Looks like he's left himself open near his chest. I attempt to thrust my blade towards him, but right before I could, he blocked it with his sword. However, this was exactly what I wanted! Separation is an alchemy skill, so I can still use that one. I drop my sword and touch his sword, about to activate separation. Too bad he jumped away at the last moment, but that's actually also what I wanted!

I activate Icicle Blast, a huge chunk of sharpened ice appearing before me. It shot out at him, but right before it hit, he activated his own skill.

"Twin Slash!" Almost simultaneously, two slashes cut the Icicle in half, losing its momentum.

Annoying that the attack failed, but it leaves me with no choice. If I can't defend against him, I'll just have to go on the offensive. I rush at him, attempting to slash him across the chest. He blocked it, but all that means he can't block against the dagger in my offhand. I make an attempt to stab him in the side, but another skill activated, blocking the blow... Must have been that weird skill without a level.

"Damn! You're really trying to win this, you even forced me to use my one per day skill! I'd say you're more than strong enough to join, but now I'm having fun!" He spoke, giving out useful information.

"Thanks, now I know you can't block another one of those attacks."

"Oh, don't underestimate me now!" He grinned, readying his greatsword once again. I, in return, readied my own weapon. I rushed at him even faster than before thanks to my skill, Gust. When I'm right in front of him and he's about to hit me with his greatsword, I activate Gust once again below me, jumping up into the air landing behind him.

Before he could turn around, I had my longsword up to his head, "I win."
