1 IM A WHAT?

A young boy, age 12, is laying on a hospital bed at deaths door. He has been fighting a disease he contracted 2 months ago but is losing the battle. This boy is the protagonist of our story, and his name is Dylan Procker.

Dylan was you average middleschool student. He got average grades, wasn't great in any extracurricular activities, and genuinely stuck to himself. Then disaster struck!

Dylan fell ill seemingly over night. He was extremely fatigued and found it hard to do daily activities. At first he stayed in school, his parents believing that it was a simple common cold that he was overexaggerating. This continued for about a week until he could no longer move on his own.

The disease attacked his musculatory, skelatory, and nervous system. His bones deteriorated at an alarming rate and his muscles seemed to eat away at themselves. All the while...he felt nothing.

Some would say that not being able to feel the pain he's in was a blessing. To Dylan, it was a curse. He could no longer feel if he was hot or cold. His mother's hand was a simple slab of meat in his hands. He couldn't feel it but he knew that it was there.

As Dylans health worsened over time, the doctors began to give up hope. Every option they had tried, ended up as a failure. Soon, Dylan was in a coma. He would stay in a coma till the day of his untimely death.

He awoke to see his mother in tears in front of him. Tears both of sadness and joy. Joy to see her boys eyes once again, but sadness knowing this would be the last. His family had decided to pull the plug so that they're baby boy would no longer be tormented with this disease.

Dylan couldn't hear or see much. Unbeknownst to him, this would be the very last time he would see his mother. The last thing he saw was a single tear shed down his mother's cheek as she mouthed the words..."I love you!"

Then everything went dark slowly. As though the world was fading away, as if it never existed to begin with.

Darkness...that's all the eye could see, or couldn't see. You would think this would be terrifying for a 12 year old, to be in complete darkness. Not for Dylan though, he had already experienced enough darkness whilst in a coma so he was not phased. To him, this was just another day.

This inescapable darkness seemed to last for hours, then days, then months and eventually for years. All the while Dylan was contempt with his fate. He had accepted what had happened to him a long time ago and now...was bored.

"Come onnnnn, is there anything for me to do here? I'm dead right? That's just a really long time for me to sleep! And you dream while you sleep so essentially this is a dream! Now, I should be able to conjure up something fun with just my mind."

Dylan strained his wandering mind to conjure up something fun. Anything would do, a video game, a book, a puppy to play with. He didn't care as long as it was something for him to do.

"Come on give me anything, ooo wait! I remembered something from a commercial back when I was alive. You said a little jingle and then BAM, someone would could help you! Alright here it goes...'Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!"

Dylan waited for the man named Jake to show up in front of him. He did this knowing that it was impossible, he just wanted to occupy his mind while waiting for eternity to end.

"You know what would be really cool? If I was born as a vampire or a werewolf. Those people have awesome powers that they use to fight good and evil. It sure would be cool to be one of them."

Dylan had a slight smile through his consciousness and gave himself a nod.

"Yes, very cool!"

Then, a blinding light filled the endless void that Dylans consciousness flowed through. This bright light was soon followed by more darkness, yet this time was different.

This darkness had a faint glow to it. Dylan thought he could make out a rock wall a few feet in front of him, which was strange. This was the first time Dylan had seen anything in...who knows how long! This excited him as his wish to have something to do was granted, although it was just staring at a wall.

Dylan was cold, which shouldn't be possible considering he doesn't have a physical body. Maybe he was imagining it? Or maybe he's just gone mad!

The cold was almost unbearable. There was a strong breeze that intensified the frozen atmosphere. That breeze blew right through Dylan, almost as if he was hallow. This is turn peaked Dylans interest so he tried to look at his new "body." What he daw shocked him down to his bones...he was only a skeleton!

"WHAT? WHY IS THERE A SKELETON BELOW ME?" Dylan was shocked and shouted loud enough to make his bones rattle. "Oh that's weird, it tickles but hurts at the same time. Is this what happens when you hit your funny bone? Heh, I'm a comedic genius!"

Dylan was 12 when he died, but his mental age was much older due to the many years he was in the darkness. He would probably be around 19 years old if his body aged along with him. Well, his body seems to have aged past him considering it's all bones.

"So, it would seem that I've become a skeleton. Is this like wayyy in the future where my body has decomposed and this is all that's left?! No, that can't be right, bones don't grow once you're dead and I'm much bigger than I was when I died. Unless...all that milk my mom made me drink made by bones grow big and strong just like she said they would! Pffft, yeah right, like that could happen."

Dylan ran through scenarios in his head over and over, each scenario stranger than the last. This went on for a few moments before he finally came to a conclusion.

"Yeah, it's pretty obvious that I've been reborn. Well...sort of, I'm still technically dead considering what a skeleton is. This place seems different from my old home as well. The air feels different, although that could be because I'm made of bones and no longer have any skin. Nonetheless, this whole situation is strange."

Dylan started pacing back and forth between the walls. At first he hit them since he didn't know the distance between the two was only about 5 feet but he quickly adapted to it.

"Wait...how am I even able to exist? I have no heart or brain since I'm a skeleton. No vital organs either and I'm missing everything essential for normal survival. That must mean that this world has magic! That's the only way the my skeletal body could hold itself together."

Realizing that this world was magic confirmed Dylans previous query about whether this world was different. It clearly was and now that there was magic involved...he could cast spells. This caused Dylan to be overjoyed and he went to cast his first spell, but before he could, he heard footsteps coming from the other end of the corridor.

These footsteps came closer and closer towards Dylan and he eventually could hear voices. He had a unnatural urge to rush towards the creatures coming towards and kill them. He was able to resist somehow and remain calm as they got closer until light could be seen. Who or what is coming to Dylan, and are they good or bad?
