The Palace

"Does anyone have any idea how this happened?!" King Hamelot shouted his question at all the elders in the throne room.

Prince Emery was assassinated in his own palace. The king was fuming with rage at the loss of his youngest son. Emery was only fifteen! The child still had a long life that he was no longer going to witness and experience.

Everyone in the room shuddered in fear from the rage of their king. They had never in their lives witnessed the king enraged to such a boiling point. It felt like no one would be able to waver the king to calm down at this point. In a sense everyone could easily understand the reason behind such rage. Who would have thought the youngest in the royal family would be killed so easily and within the palace itself. Those who were in the room were filled with worry over the thought of who could be the next to fall if they did not figure out who the traitor was among them.

"Majesty, the traitor did the job so easily, therefore I fear they may still be among the palace. It could be anyone at this point. There is no clue as to who it was who killed Prince Emery right now, but we're doing everything possible to figure out who killed him!" one of the elders spoke up in attempt to calm the king.

"Looks like crown prince, Leo, just gained another foot in the lead running for next king..." someone whispered from across the room.

The voice from the whisper easily caught the king's ears even though they had attempted to hide it. The rage boiled even higher at such words being spoken at a time so vital as the assassination of his youngest. Hamelot felt like he was going to hyperventelate from the fury he felt and he found himself taking a glass of wine from the table beside his throne and hurling it across the room at the man who spoke ill about Leo.

"PSHHHH!"

The glass shattered against the wall and shards of it scattered everywhere. Everyone who was standing near the man who had the glass thrown at him glared at the man like he was an idiot for speaking about Leo at such a bad time.

"Idiot..." Someone whispered to him as they all scurried away from the man.

Tears threatened to fall from Hamelot's eyes, but he bit them back and huffed out a heavy breath. It was not the time for a king to give such a sorry sight in front of those who follow him. The thing he had to worry himself with was finding the killer in his palace before he lost anyone else from his family. He had one more son in the palace with him and nobody ever knew when his eldest would come home. If his eldest son knew about his brother's death he felt he would be on his way home and that would put him in the middle of everything as well.

"Of all the times for him to come home..." a pitiful laugh escaped the king.

"Father?" The second prince, Curtis, slowly walked up to his father and placed a hand on his shoulder.

Hamelot had never felt so weak in his life as he did in that moment.

Curtis had long blond hair like his father, but not nearly as silver in ton as he was still young. Curtis was only a couple years below his elder brother, Leo in age. His blue eyes were not bright like Leo or his father's either, the shade of blue they were was deep as the vast ocean. Looking into his eyes could make someone feel as if they were drowning in the sea.

"Your brother, Leo, is probably on his way home. We must find the killer before either of you gets struck with the same fate as Emery." Hamelot's hand gently patted his son's hand on his shoulder for a moment. Slowly turning away he walked off out of the throne room. He wanted desperately to see the face of his youngest son that was lost from this world. Soon they would have to send Emery's body off from the world so he wanted to engrave the memory of his youngest into him before he lost the chance to do it.

As Curtis watched his father leave the room a shadow cast over his face. There was a dark dim gleam in his eyes and nobody in the room could tell was Curtis was thinking or feeling. They all stared at him for a long moment in silence. Nobody knew if they should say something to him or just remain in silence.

"All of you are dismissed!" Curtis turned and shouted at everyone.

His voice was cold and deep causing them all to scatter and remove themselves as fast as possible from the throne room. Curtis just stood there watching them all leave until nobody was left in the room. The throne room was full of silence as he stretched his arms out for a moment and turned to walk towards the king's throne.

Curtis's body slowly slid down into the throne as his eyes gazed deeply at the throne room before him. His blank expression showing no emotion while his eyes were dimmed with a deep darkness that could swallow the world around him whole.

In the other room where the king was standing he had no idea of Curtis's actions. His mind was stricken with sorrow as he gazed down at his youngest. His hands gently fixing Emery's shirt to look nicer. He knew there was no point to the action, but he still had the urge to help his youngest with it as there was nothing more he could do for him anymore other then figure out who had ended his life. The dagger that was used to pierce Emery's heart was laying next to his body still covered in his blood.

"My son..." The king's voice cracked as he clenched his eyes shut to force back his emotions. "Shall you find peace in the next realm your soul descends upon."

The king tightly grasped his youngest son's hand in his and stood there in silence. Time flew by as the king refused to leave the room his youngest was in for the rest of the time. Nobody in the palace dared to disturb the king in his time of grief. The palace of Cadirace was shrouded in silence for the entire night with the king locked up in Emery's room.
