1 Chapter 1

Another Chance: What's Lost is Given

Earth, the third planet in the solar system, home of humanity who also destroys it. Yet very few people care and even the deities created by the beliefs of these humans barely stop it, fearful of being forgotten. But this story is about a certain person on Earth, a certain man in America of pure Japanese descent who is just like many of us, struggling to be normal as he tries to write a story.

Now, this very man, Ashura Nakamura, was already scripting the end of his book in his small studio in his small suburban home. Here he lived with his little sister, Yuma Nakamura, who's just started high school but she still seems more like a child whenever she showed how much affection she had for her older brother. This behavior is due to Ashura being the only family member she's had throughout her entire life and the only one she knows she can depend on. Though you'd be like this too when both your parents died when your younger sister was only six years old and the older brother was only twelve years old.

Enough worthless backstory, now Ashura continued his work despite his lack of confidence in the idea and judgemental Americans who only care about weird topics like sexuality and sexual identity. "Ashura-nii-san!" Yuma shouted as she slammed open the door to Ashura's study, making him drop the pencil he was using to take notes, but he cared more about the obvious American accent that his younger sister used with Japanese dialect.

So he sighed before he picked up his pencil and placed it on his desk, then turning around with his chair. "Yuma, please don't mix American accents with Japanese." He said as she puffed out her cheeks with a pout, but he simply stood up in response. Then he placed his hands on her shoulders, making her look up just slightly to look Ashura in the eye. "Stay true to yourself, remember that."

"How am I supposed to forget when you tell me that almost every day?" She retorted as Ashura put his hands down. The two chuckled a bit, but Ashura soon returned to his work as he should be writing the first few chapters soon. "Ashura, could we go get some ice cream?" She asked.

Ashura put down his pencil and stood up once again. "Alright, let me go put on something more appropriate then." He said as Yuma realized that he was only in some sweatpants, leaving him shirtless and making his sister blush. Ignoring her realization, he went to his room and changed into some jeans, a white shirt, and a dark blue jacket. While Yuma wore a dark blue cardigan over a white v-neck and some jean shorts that ended right under her bottom.

Now that the two were dressed, they left their small house to walk towards an ice cream shop. Just two minutes into their walk, they had to cross the street and everything seemed safe. "Huh?" Yuma said before both she and Ashura looked to their left and seeing a truck coming straight towards them, so his brother instincts kicked in and he pushed himself and Yuma out of the way. "Is that driver insane?" She asked no one in particular as both of them got up and walked the rest of the way to the ice cream shop.

Either way, the two went to the ice cream shop and got their favorites: cookies and cream for Yuma while Ashura got strawberry. So the two just sat down in the small shop enjoying their ice cream before Yuma would have to go back to school tomorrow and Ashura might actually get some work done.

"You know you're probably the only person in the world who likes Strawberry ice cream," Yuma said to try to start a conversation while they still ate their ice cream.

"That means more for me then, doesn't it?" He retorted as a few customers left the store with ice cream in their hands.

Before Yuma could answer his question, someone slammed open the door to the shop which broke the bell on the door. The man already had a gun pointed towards the woman at the cash register, so everyone who was there already turned a table on its side and hid behind it.

"Give me all the cash you got!" He shouted as he pointed the muzzle of the gun towards the cashier, who slowly and nervously opened the register and started taking out the money. During this time, the manager was quickly dialing the authorities. "Hey! Stay where I can see you!" He ordered as everyone stopped moving out of pure fear.

'I'm so going to regret this.' Thought Ashura before he looked at Yuma who was basically shaking in fear. "Yuma, stay true to yourself. Remember that." He whispered to her before he grabbed an unplugged lamp and threw it straight into the guy's back.

"Ashura no!" Yuma shouted but he kept going and tackled the burglar, knocking the gun out of his hand.

Taking it another step further, Ashura grabbed the man from behind and slammed his head into the counter, which somehow cracked it just slightly. Thus the man's head began to bleed as he pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ashura in the stomach. Ready to give it all, Ashura threw the man through the window and grabbed his gun.

"Say hello to your mother for me." He said before pulling the trigger, but at the same time, the authorities arrived and five of them shot Ashura.

"NO!" Yuma shouted as she went over and shook his body, only making him cough up blood. "Stay with me! I need you!" She pleaded as the cops walked into the store and pointed their guns at Yuma and Ashura.

"Young Lady put the robber down!" They ordered as she was left frozen in shock and remained that way.

"Yuma *coughs* stay true and never forget me..." He said before his body went limp and his eyes remained open. Now the cops were smart enough to realize what they did and looked at the body that was thrown out of the window.

"*Sniffles* I'll never forget you, *sniffles* big brother... "

'The sweet embrace of death, never did I think I'd be here so soon.' Thought Ashura as he simply floated in pitch black place, where nothing stood out except the few twinkles of a light every now and then. Leaving his common sense behind, Ashura walked towards a small flickering light in the distance as if he walked through the air.

Yet there was still nothing there as he continued to walk. The light seemed to fade away as he got closer until he felt an odd pull. Deciding that there's literally nothing else to do, he let the pull take him and he was blinded by a flash of bright colors.

This time he was in a white plane, devoid of the twinkling lights while a woman stood before him. The woman was beautiful and cute in a sense, she had silky brown hair that went down to her back yet it framed a cute and almost childish face. Though her outfit was placed her in the beautiful category as she wore a red kimono with cherry blossoms decorating the edges and sides, it still hung a bit lose off her body, which left her cleavage somewhat revealed. The perfect Japanese woman as some people would think.

"Ashura Nakamura. I'm sorry for the death I've pained you with." The woman said as Ashura went from adoring her looks to complete shock that this gorgeous woman made him die. "Though it was your time, I hope that you'll be able to do something for me."

This was already bad enough for him. First, he died and left Yuma without a guardian. Now a beautiful woman wants him to do something after he's died.

"I understand if you're uneasy. It must be hard to take in your own death." She said meekly, only making Ashura a bit nervous about all of this.

"What's this task?" He asked after a moment or so passed.

"There's another world that I want to help. So you'll have to eliminate the Demon King for me." She said plainly as if that was normal.

"What does this world have to offer?" He asked a bit nervously this time.

"It's much like a game. There are levels and skills that help you survive while you live in a world that operates like a fantasy RPG in your world." She informed him as he grew somewhat interested and thought about how his book will never be finished.

This time, he looked away from the woman to focus on his choices. 'Being sent to another world might be nice if I get to relax again. But I doubt I'll see Yuma if they have a different concept of death. Whatever... I told Yuma to stay true to herself and to never forget me. That's enough for me, I doubt she'll come here for years.'

"So is that a yes?" The woman asked, reading his thoughts casually and flying in front of him. Though it annoyed him at her lack of a sense of privacy, he looked her straight in the eye.

"Will I be able to relax in this world once that Demon King is killed?" He asked since he spent a solid twenty-one years on Earth and was hoping for a solid forty more.

"Of course," she said but brought up her sleeve to cover her mouth. "If you live that is," she mumbled but Ashura didn't seem to hear it.

"On one condition. I want you to make sure Yuma lives a happy life. Then I'll deal with this Demon King for you." He answered as the woman seemed happy, the kind of happy that showed after a long period of sadness.

"Thank you! I'll make sure Yuma is happy for you!" She said as Ashura's body was starting to glow and blow away like dust. "Good luck, my little hero~."

In a cottage-like mansion within a clearing of a forest, a blonde woman with golden eyes held a baby in her arms, gentling rocking the small baby into a comfortable slumber. But the baby's eyes started to open up and revealed golden eyes much like their mother, yet the baby was confused as if it didn't know who anyone or anything was. Noticing this, the woman started to rock the baby slower and talk to them.

"How's my little baby girl doing?" She asked in an angelic voice that could soften nearly anyone's hearts. "My little Kaida's awake now, isn't she?" She asked again, but the baby still seemed confused at the woman's actions. Not wanting to waste the time she had to work, the woman set Kaida in a crib before leaving the room with the door slightly ajar.

Yet this baby was just who you thought they were. They're our reincarnated protagonist, Ashura Nakamura who was completely confused about everything going on. 'What's going on? Is this the world that woman talked about?' He or now she thought before trying to move her body, only moving the small, fat arms and legs she had. 'I'm a baby! ... calm down... Okay, this is supposed to be like a game, so there's bound to be a stats screen or something, right?'

With that thought, a screen appeared in front of the baby, though it was quite small, the information is bound to help.

That's all it displayed and it cleared up some questions within the newly named Kaida's head. 'Princess... I hate my life... ' She thought simply as she looked further down the screen and saw her age. 'Oh no... Yuma barely spoke when she was eight months and could barely walk when she was one and a half years old. It'll be a long time before I can beat this Demon King.' Even with these thoughts, the game mechanics still confused Kaida a bit. 'Games have quests and that woman mentioned skills. But there has to be some tutorial somewhere.'

On cue, three more screens popped up in front of her. One each for Quests, Skills, and the Tutorial of this world.

Tutorial

Welcome to the world of Gaia. A world of magic and war between the great kingdoms. You have been reincarnated as a baby so you must wait to fully complete this tutorial.

For now, you are a hero marked with golden eyes and marked with silver hair for your blessing from the deities watching over you. As you are now, you do not belong to any kingdom and are more of a roamer, looking for something or someone to work for. Thus you are free to do what you want when you want, though you have a mother that has killed an army of men very recently.

If you ever need to find information, it'll be stored in your database after learning it. But remember that everyone in this world has this HUD.

'Troublesome... ' She thought as thousands of sneezes could be heard from another realm. Regardless, she just laid there thinking until sleep embraced her just as sweet as death did moments ago.
