1 Chapter 1- Reid Flannel

"I can smell it," I said to myself as I was tracking down the EarthLander I was hired to kill. I hid behind the trees to avoid being seen. I moved closer and closer to the beast, as I can hear it breathing heavily.

I rose my hands and whispered, "come to me, Starfall,"

The dual katanas appeared out of thin air into my hands.

"Here we go,"

I charged straight at the Lander ready to slice it open. It was about 8 feet tall, which meant it was D ranked. This Lander looked like a giant spider, all of the 8 legs hard as Steel.

"I need to aim right for its core," I said in my head.

I swung and it blocked as if anticipating my moves. I swung again and again, trying to wear it out to get an opening. It leaped back, trying to catch its breath.

"That wasn't the plan buddy," I screamed at it. "You give me no choice then,".

"Fire bind- Fireball release"

The fire spewed out of my mouth, targeting straight for its eyes.

The Lander screamed in agony the moment my fire touched its eyes.

"Sorry buddy," I said. "May you rest in peace"

I sliced through its core and the beast fell to its eternal rest.

"That wasn't too hard," I said, checking if it dropped a crystal.

"Nothing huh, alright then," I said in disappointment. I felt as if someone was watching me.

"Anyone out there?" I asked, shouting. My voice echoed throughout the forest. "Alright then,"

I let go of my Kitanas as they disappeared into the thin air.

The corpse will disappear in a few minutes. I walked out of the forest empty-handed and headed back to the village hall.

I could hear the children shouting and laughing as I reached the border of Lyziel village, a small village on the outskirts of Liberty City, the capital.

"That Lander won't be bothering you guys anymore," I said as I entered the village hall.

"Oh, Reid," Chief Nin, the chief of the village held my hand. "Thank you, my boy, we appreciate it, every single bit."

"Don't mention it old man," I smiled at him. "Experience is all I need sir," I lied, I needed money too but from him.

"But still, I do feel bad whenever you leave empty-handed, it's not fair, and I know about the condition you live in,"

"We are okay, don't worry about us, if there's another Lander trouble, don't hesitate to call me okay,"

"Of course," The old man said, hugging me. He snuck and pocketed 3 gold coins into my back pocket. I pretended not to notice it because we wouldn't take it if I told him to take it back.

"Well then, I'll be on my way then," I greeted goodbye as I left the hall.

I went over to the playground where the kids were playing.

"Hey, Giddy," I called over to one of the kids, "come"

"Good evening Captain," He greeted me cheerfully.

"Hey, buddy. Go give this to mommy really quick, tell her I gave to you alright, and tell her to get well soon okay." I handed him to the money. "You guys," I called out to the four kids he was playing with. "Go with Giddy on this secret mission okay,"

"Yes, captain,"

I turned back and headed straight for the Sector I lived at.

"One day, I'll officially become an actual Sentinel, just you watch mom, and you to dad," I said to myself, with my head up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sector was a few miles walk away from Lyzeil village. The sector was on the borders of Liberty City. Even though the sectors are part of Liberty City, most Noblemen and even Sentinels don't recognize them as part of Liberty. Lower class people normally live in the sectors, because it's the most affordable, but there are some poor people in Liberty, I've heard. I honestly don't think the Noblemen see those who live in the sectors as humans. Just a waste of space. I say this because when my Sector, Sector 005, was being attacked by dozens of Landers 14 years ago, the Libertarians completely ignored us until the Landers were about to breach their walls, they then sent an elite group of Sentinels to kill the beasts. My parents were killed right in front of me.

And even after all that, I don't have any kind of hatred against the capital, because my parents died protecting the wall, instead of fleeing. I didn't understand why and still don't understand why. They didn't hesitate to fight for people that never fought for them. I don't know if they were trying to play the hero and the heroine or were just plain fools.

Sentinels are usually from the capital, it's kind of rare to see a Sentinel that comes from a sector. So many of my friends died that day, I find it kind of unfair that I didn't die with them. Even though I was seriously injured, I managed to survive., but whenever I look at my reflection, the scar near my right eyebrow always gives me unpleasant memories.

I've been living with Aunt Mary(she's not my actual aunt, just a friend of my parents), and her daughter Bell ever since. Although they've been taking good care of me, life isn't easy for any of us.

"Hey Red," Bell's voice broke me out of my thoughts, as I reached Sector 004. "Mom was been worried sick about you dummy,"

Bell calls me Red because the day she met me, she thought my name was Red instead of Reid. At first, it used to annoy the hell out of me but now I've gotten used to it, it's like my nickname now.

"Yeah of course, sorry," I said. I then realized it was kinda late.

"You're apologizing to the wrong person," Bell laughed.

Her blonde hair contradicted with my red hair. And her perfect smile always made my day.

"I'll carry the groceries," I offered.

"Now look at you being a gentleman," She smiled, then ran her hands through my hair, I could see her struggling to keep her balance on her last toe.

"I'm older than you Bell, remember all right,"

"I few days mean nothing Reid, now let's go, mom's waiting,"

Bell also wants to be a Sentinel like me, but since she specializes in the healing arts, she doesn't go on unofficial jobs as I do, she instead works at the infirmary, healing those who have been attacked by Landers, which are usually farmers and sometimes factory workers on the outskirts.

The groceries are much heavier today, I noticed.

"Did you work overtime again Bell?" I asked, breaking the ongoing silence.

"I'm fine, don't worry about me okay," She said without hesitation.

"You promised that you would take it easy Bell, don't overload your self,"

"Says you? The guy who risks his life day in and day out, you don't get to talk about taking it easy and overloading yourself, you don't know how WE feel when you're not home by dawn."

"Or even when you leave," She added, mumbling.

"There you guys are," Aunt Mary greeted us.

"Hey mom," Bell said, hugging her.

I noticed a black car parked near the house. Cars aren't really normal around these parts. And I sense Orizambi coming from the car.

"Who's in there," I screamed at the car. "I can sense you, all 3 of you, come out,"

"You can actually sense them, Reid," An unfamiliar voice came from behind me. "There hid any type of Orizambi aura,"

A guy about my height in a black suit came out of the house.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"This is our visitor Reid," Aunt Mary said.

"Visitor?" I asked, calming down.

"My name is Insunya Tonan, and I have an invitation for you guys," He said. "And, please, don't mind my friends in the car, they are just keeping watch for me that's all,"

Tonan? That's a noble name. Even by his looks, you can immediately figure out that he isn't from here. His hair matches perfectly with the suit as if there is no difference in shade.

"Are you guys hungry, because I'm starving, haven't eaten all day you know," He said. "Tell ya what, dinners on me today Aunty,"
