1 Chapter 1: Who are you?

The last things Jiang Yingyue saw were two bright headlights shining directly at her. "No..." She had felt the cold instantly wash over her, as she hugged her precious hands into her body.

The next time Yingyue opened her eyes, she was lying on a hard surface in a place that was shrouded in darkness apart from the faint light leaking in from under a wooden door. It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust as she squinted, trying to figure out where she was.

Sitting up, she found that she was in some sort of storage room. There were wooden boxes stacked high on one side and stacks of hay on the other.

Coming to her senses, she quickly looked down at her hands to check if they were hurt. Being a surgeon, she couldn't lose her precious hands or let them suffer any damage. Shockingly, when she looked down, what she saw was not her hands! She saw a pair of delicate small hands that seemed to belong to a child. Crying out in confusion, she was again startled by a voice that was not hers.

She abruptly stood up, ignoring the pain that shot through her backside. What was going on? Where was she? What were these clothes on her body?

"Phone... where's my phone??" Yingyue frantically searched around; she needed to call her parents right now.

Tears had started to form in her eyes. All she could see was hay and dirt, but no phone. In her panic and confusion, she heard a rattling noise coming from outside that sounded like a lock being opened. Had she been kidnapped, perhaps? Just what was going on?

She could hear the sound of a chain sliding off the door. Standing back cautiously, she waited for the doors to open. In the doorway was a young girl who looked around 12 years old. However, she seemed to be wearing odd ancient clothing! Who was this girl?? Was she in some sort of historical drama set right now? No, that wasn't right - this didn't even seem to be her body. She calmed down and thought for a moment as the young girl rushed in.

"Third Miss... how is your body? Master was really too harsh yesterday. Luckily, he has let you out today for the monthly test... Concubine Lu sent me to come get you." The girl draped a coat over Yingyue's shoulders.

Seeing the recently teary eyes of the little girl, her heart ached. Even though Yingyue was an untalented child of a concubine, she was still the Third Miss of Left Prime Minister Jiang's household... how could they treat her like this and even beat her to this state? "Third Miss, this servant is sorry for letting you suffer in here for the whole night. You must have been so frightened."

Finally coming to her senses, Yingyue uttered some words. "Who are you... Where are we..."

Hearing these words, the servant girl felt worried and started asking questions frantically. "Third Miss, do you not remember anything? Are you alright? It's me, Xiao Zhu, your servant. Does your head hurt? This is the horse shed at the back of the servants' quarters. Third Miss, quickly come with me. Concubine Lu is worried and hasn't slept since Master locked you up last night."

Who was this Concubine Lu and Master that the girl kept talking about? Feeling a slight pull on her wrist, Yingyue had no choice but to follow the girl out of the shed. Outside, the light was still dim - it seemed to be only the early hours of the morning. She followed her through the courtyard and along a small path.

She suddenly remembered that TV drama that her cousin, Yun'er, had been constantly yapping about. It seemed to be something about the time-traveller who had died and woken up in another person's body. Had she perhaps... transmigrated?!

Just as that idea popped into her mind, she had reached a small courtyard. Looking up, she saw faded characters that wrote: 'Gentle Breeze'. It seems that this small courtyard was where she was living.

Listening to Yun'er, she had actually learnt a thing or two about transmigration. Usually, as a surgeon, she couldn't be bothered by anything that wasn't her work, but at times, her younger cousin would talk for longer or even start bothering her if she didn't listen, so she had picked up some interesting things. But... how was it possible that it had actually happened to her...

Nonetheless, she didn't know if it was a dream and how long she would be here for, so it would be better if she could adapt as soon as possible. She was really curious what kind of household this was, and she would soon find out...
