1 The Reekers

So just to start off: This is based on a nightmare I had That nearly drove me insane for the next week and still does if I think about it, I lost both my grandparents to illness, I lost My grandad a day after my birthday... 25 days later I lost my Grandmother to stomach cancer... I had the opportunity to say goodbye to my grandad but after his funeral I never saw my Granny again, I could never say goodbye...

Now you have the background... And to protect our Identities I will be using another name for the characters and telling you what happened in this nightmare that filled my room with the smell of death and decay. Everything in the nightmare is not a real life occurrence just something my mind drew up from years and years of horrors.

Lets get into this shall we....

My name is Ikiwa Brown, I am 23 years old, I have red and black hair and 2 colors of eyes one purple and one silver. I live with my huge family on a huge piece of land, in a square building with a glass case in the center. Our family secluded themselves from the rest of the world, we grew our own crops, farmed our own meat and created our own dairy products. Only the elders knew why and the heads of the families of course... Recently, I also found out but that is a part we would get to later... It was a normal Monday morning, I was looking after the children, since I was the only resident teacher in the community it is up to me to teach the kids, it was break time right now, the boys were kick the ball right to left, then left to right, keeping a close eye on them and the girls sitting watching them, making sure they don't get hurt... A dense pained sound made me jump... "I-Ikiwa!!" My mother's voice?... "IKIWA!!"... "Yes, mom?" I turned to the direction of my mom's voice to see her shaking and crying. "I-It's your Grandmother... She passed away."... I felt the blood drain from my face, it felt cold and my chest felt tight and my heart was pounding as tears flowed down my cheeks... Realization struck and I turned back to the kids all emotions slipped away... I need to take care of the children.

I woke up, checking the clock. "Seriously... 12 am?" There were weird noises coming from outside, I got up slipping on my slippers and pulling on my robe then head outside to the center where the music was coming from. The sight before me made me feel absolutely sick, all the family heads were surrounding the glass box, humming a eary, other worldly sound drifted from them. Fires were lit around the box making it impossible to see inside. I felt dizzy... Maybe I should get back to my room, I'll find out what is going on tomorrow. Felling chills run up my spine I rushed to my room and jumped in my bed... sleepers and all... I blacked out.

The next morning as I was getting ready for work my dad, Eduward Brown, knocked on my door. "Iki, today is a mourning day for the family, all work has been stopped... When you have gotten dressed come to the glass box." A chill crawled up my spine, my chest constricting and all the breath leaves my body... What... I hurriedly got dressed and rushed outside covering my eyes from the blinding sunlight. Once my eyes adjusted, I noticed the glass box's door was open, something was inside but I couldn't see it from where I was standing, my family lined up group by group and headed into the box. My dad ushered me over quickly, it was our turn to enter. My eyes was caught on the corpse displayed in a plain white dress and covered face, the smell was rotten, wrenching... I didn't have to ask to know who it was. This here in front of me was, my grandmother. This Thing was my... "Hello mommy, how are you? I missed you." My mother's voice drifted loosely from next to me... I turned to face her. "Ikiwa... Say hi to your Granny, tell her what you wish." She looked at my 2 younger sisters and tells them the same. "H-Hi Gran." The youngest's voice hovered. My stomach churned, the smell suddenly over whelming me and I ran out barely making it out the door. I wiped my mouth the calling from my perants no longer registering. My mind was blank as I wandered out to where the animals graze. My eyes searched for the animals. Why are there so little animals?. Ignoring the question and the familiar chill I head to the lone willow tree next to the stream. I sat down gazing at the water. It smells like death and rotten meat. My skin.... My clothes... My hair...

After a few days of the same routine over and over again I started getting used to it. The stages of decomp slowly creeping over the body, The sudden room we are forbidden to go into. The strange sudden rituals, the strange people appearing then disappearing... My mother's... Slow loss on reality. Every night at midnight I would wake up and go looking for my mother only to find her empty bed, I'd wake up my dad and we would go look for her. My mom was always near my grandmother inside the box talking... murmuring in a low cold tone, her eyes were glazed from lack of sleep, white slowly being replaced with red in her eyes. I not only watch my mother wither away but also my grandmother.

One morning as I headed to our morning prayers I saw my mother and my aunt hovering by the glass door, curious I walked over... There was my grandmother, her face still cover, her flesh falling off in chunks and splattering to the floor, she walked closer to the door my aunt and mother beside her holding small crimson boxes, they walked with her and entered the forbidden room. I couldn't believe my eyes. Awed I followed them into the room. A wretched smell gripped my throat as I stepped in, my eyes burned making it tear up and hard to see, standing there my ears were met with a sickening splash and crunch, my feet started feeling moist and sticky. I desperately rubbed my eyes so I could see what is going on, my stomach churned at the constant smacking, gnawing and crunching sound. My eyes finally started focusing, but what I saw... still haunts me to this day... a room filled with carcasses some human... some animal... my mother and aunt along with my Gran hunched over the carcasses ripping off the flesh and eating it. I let out a blood curdling scream that sent my dad rushing over to me... my feet sticking to the floor was caused by the blood that had been covering the floor. My dad grabbed me out the room and looked the door behind me. My uncles all rushed over to come and help each cleaning off my feet or changing my clothes, trying to sooth me...

My voice has been gone since that day, the horror edged into my mind. since that day I have learnt why we are secluded. We are a race of Demon... We feast upon flesh when we die... We live very long lives... We are...

REEKERS...

….

It was a this point that I woke up in a cold sweat my hair sticking to my face and my heart beating out of my chest. The smell of rotting corpse in my room. I couldn't focus at work (I am an Assistant teacher.). I couldn't eat properly. The smell of meat sent me running to the toilet. I didn't sleep well either. I have never experienced anything that affected me that much in my whole 23 years of life... I don't know... Anyway, what did you think? Did you like it? or was it just another weird story with no significance?
