139 Another One?

Link spoke with Saya and Leo, in which they proceeded to explain to him that this was a team belonging to the Military Academy. They were there to investigate and see if they were able to read the mana in the air.

When the creatures appeared, according to the survivors descriptions, the sky cracked, showing what looked like darkness on the other side where the creatures jumped out from.

All the spells that existed in this world, there was not one known to have such effects and allow such great numbers to teleport easily.

Saya and the team she was assigned to set up some old orbs all around the village where a beam of light shot up into the sky, making the scenery look magical.

Link got along well with Leo, as the man was friendly and easy to befriend. Although Neal and the rest of the team were not as friendly.

<It's understandable, you were about to kill them all just an hour ago>

"They attacked me first though" Link muttered.

Although their behavior annoyed Link a little, he did not care. Saya was the only person he really gave a shit about, and with Leo's friendliness, he got whatever answers he needed.

Link sat around a fire with Saya, Leo and Neal. Talking and enjoying some food. The other team members sat by themselves, with their own fire, occasionally peeking at Link from time to time.

"Those fuckers are definitely taking about me" Link thought to himself. He finished his food and started to get up, when a guy approached Link and blocked his way.

"Let's fight!" He said, grabbing the attention of everyone. Saya and Leo sighed and shook their heads, while the other team members cheered.

"Fight! Fight! Fight!" they repeated.

"Why should I?" Link said to the guy. He recognized the man, it was the same person whom he kicked into a building after he attacked him when he first got here. If he remembered correctly, he heard Leo call him Nick.

"Why not?" Nick questioned. He looked a bit confused.

"Why not?" Link frowned, but then with a small laugh, he nodded "You're right, why not"

The two of them moved to an empty field that once belonged to Link's neighbor before everything happened, though now it looked like a mess as everything was burned and ashes now covered the place.

Everyone stood outside the field, watching the two. "Any bets?" A man spoke, but what he said only got him a smack on the head from Leo. "Didn't you say you quit gambling" This got a laugh from everyone.

"You can attack whenever you're ready" Link said to Nick, looking at him with a grin. "I wanted to test something out anyways" Link thought to himself. "Intimidation!"

As Nick got his sword out, he found that his body seemed to not be listening to him. "What the hell!" He muttered, trying his best to move. His legs, hands, even his breathing was shaky. He lifted his head up and looked at Link. That was when his heart dropped, as what stood in front of him was nothing. He no longer could see anything in front of him, it was dark. A nauseating feeling washed over him as he slowly started loosing strength in his legs, falling to the ground shaking. "Am I dead? Did he kill me already?" He muttered to himself.

"No, you're alive and well" The voice of a woman spoke from somewhere, as Nick's vision slowly started returning and his body gaining back its strength. Saya slowly started to appear, her hand on top of his head.

"You ok?" Leo asked, appearing next to Saya.

"What happened?" Nick asked "did I lose the fight?"

"Fight?" Saya spoke "what just happened shouldn't be called a fight"

For the people that were watching what happened, all they could see was Nick shaking then passing out. Link then turned towards Saya and Leo and said goodbye before vanishing.

"He cheated?" Nick spoke after a short pause.

Wam!

Leo smacked him on the head, before speaking "Cheated? you two weren't even in the same league. He didn't even move and you lost"

Nick took a deep breath and sighed, going back to camp where he was welcomed with jokes and teasing from his teammates.

Link went back to the Kingdom, wanting to sleep in his own bed.

Morning came and Link returned back to meet up with Saya. He wanted to hear about the results of their investigation as he needed to understand his new enemy.

Days went by and Link's visits never stopped. He slowly started talking with the other team members but he cared little about them. Although Nick always seemed to appear out of nowhere asking for another duel.

Link conquered two dungeons in the time and currently was inside a phantom dungeon.

Phantoms are a type of ghosts or spirits that belonged to monsters. They are immune to all physical attacks which forced Link to use magic.

At the end of the day, he would help Saya with her research and go back home. Until something finally came up.

"It was not a teleportation spell!" Saya exclaimed.

"What? Then what was it?" Link asked.

"A Layer jump!!" She said with a hint of surprise on her face.

"What's that?"

"According to legends. Layer jumping was a technique gifted to us by one of the gods. It's a safe way of travel to easily avoid beasts, since back then that was something they all wished to do.

The theory I've read on this was that in our world, similar to an ocean we have a surface. on that side, it is a copy of our world, but inhabited by other beings.

I'm not sure about the details but I believe that was how they got through our defenses so easily" Saya explained.

"If what you're saying is true, doesn't that mean that they can attack anywhere, anytime and whenever they please?" Leo spoke, a bit worried.

"I do not think a God would create something that overpowered and hand it over to us without setting some sort of limit" Saya continued "The Godly Gifts have been mostly lost in history but I think they got their hands on one, and it is something troublesome, regardless of what its limits are"

<You're not the only one who managed to unlock a God gift>

"I realized" Link muttered "This is annoying"
