1 Part One

Sweat begins to run across your face as you continue this dance against the Viridian City Gym Leader. The Atrocious Pokémon, Gyarados, flies around the arena, avoiding your Espeon's attacks.

"Heh heh heh..." Gym Leader Blue snickers, "You weren't prepared for this. We'll knock you down!"

"I doubt it, former champion," you jeer. He blushes and grits his teeth. You were aware of his crushing defeat at the Pokėmon League three years prior to your journey. He reigned as champion for a mere 30 minutes before another trainer dethroned him. And what made it worse was that he was being teased by the current champion of the Kanto-Johto league.

During your battle, you recall walking across the Hall of Fame along with Lance, the champion you had to defeat in order to become the new champion. Each former victor had their team, along with a picture of them and their name, photographed and hung on the wall. Except for one. The one that had taken down Blue, who just had their team photographed. The childhood prodigy, as you remember the news reporters referred to him as back when he was taking his gym challenge. Even on the news, his face was never shown and his name was never credited. It was odd, and you close your eyes for a second to ponder this strange situation.

Right when you do, your Espeon crashes into your stomach. You are knocked to the ground with the impact, as Blue laughs. "Told ya." he teased.

You check on Espeon. She's clearly fainted. You glance up at Blue, who's smirking down at you arrogantly. You vow that his arrogance will be his downfall. You send out your last Pokémon, your Togekiss, who you've raised since birth. The Jubilee Pokémon sings a short tune and then flies away from the Gyarados' ravenous attacks. "Gyarados, Outrage!" Blue cries out. Gyarados' manner shifts. You can sense the anger in its eyes. Just then, a massive swing from the dragon's tail comes and nearly hits Togekiss. You quickly deduce the situation your Togekiss is in. The Gyarados is using the move Outrage. This means that it will use all of its power for this one attack, but it will inevitably become fatigued and confused by the end of the attack. You decide you have to stall until the Atrocious Pokémon becomes tired. "Togekiss, dodge Gyarados' attacks!" you yell out. She nods with understanding, and flies up. The Gyarados' continues its thrashing. Just as you predicted, however, the dragon becomes dizzy. It starts thrashing in places not even near the Jubilee Pokémon.

"Come on Gyarados!" the gym leader yells out desperately, "Snap out of it, bud!"

"Togekiss, use headbutt right in its jaw!" you command. The winged bringer of blessing begins to ready itself. Going at nearly 28 miles per hour, the Togekiss flies at the Gyarados and...

The battle was over. Blue puts his hand on his forehead, smiling sheepishly. "Y'know I was really hoping I could beat you," the Viridian Gym Leader says snickering, "If I could defeat you I might have another shot at the league."

"Better luck next time." you taunt. You take out your hand. He shakes it, but you feel something in his hand. You take it, and there it is. Your hard earned Earth Badge. You've officially conquered both the Kanto and Johto regions.

You start making your way towards Vermillion City, in order to go back home, but you then receive a call. You answer.

"Hello there! I have just received word from my grandson," Professor Oak exclaimed, proud, "I'd like you to come back to my lab before you head back to New Bark Town. I have a gift I'd like to give you before you end your journey."

You hang up. 'Pallet Town's a walking distance from here...' you think. 'Why Not?'

In no time, you arrive in Pallet Town and make your way to the Professor's lab. As you walk down the street, hands in your pockets, people can't stop looking at you.

"Did you hear?" a youngster eagerly whispers to a friend, "That person's the new champion!"

"They were the one that took down Lance?" the other youngster replies, shocked, "They must be nearly as powerful as Red!"

'Red. That must be the champion that defeated Blue...' you think to yourself. 'If people knew his name, why in the world wasn't he credited in the Hall of Fame?'

You stroll into the lab. You are greeted by who must be one of Professor Oak's aides. He takes you to the Pokémon Professor. He's beaming with joy as soon as he sees you.

"Hello, Champion," he says smiling, "You've done incredibly well on your journey. Gathering the gym badges of two different regions is no easy feat. And becoming champion of any Pokémon League is even harder.

"So that's why I'm allowing you entrance into Mt. Silver," Professor Oak says, his expression turning slightly grimmer.

"Hm?" you question, "What's that place?"

"It's the largest peak in all of Kanto-Johto," Professor Oak says, "And it's filled with only the strongest trainers. But before I allow you entrance, I have to ask you something."

"And that would be...?" you ask, somewhat concerned.

"Ah, it's nothing, really," Professor Oak says nonchalantly, "I'd just like you to confirm a suspicion I have about the mountain. Just travel to the top for me, okay?"

You chuckle. "That's probably what I would've done anyway." you tell him.

He chuckles in response. It sounds forced. "Well, I wish you luck, Champion. Oh! And you'll need this." he says. He hands you an HM, containing the move Rock Slide. He then quickly sends you off.

His dark expression and forced laughter puzzles you.

'What the hell is on the top of that mountain?'
