29 Preparing for War

He blinked and it was gone. She removed her hand for his and kept walking. He stood rooted to the ground. What the hell, did he just see?

"Pince Irilim, we mustn't be late. It would reflect badly on us as rulers"

"Yes, I'm coming"

For now, he had no other choice but to watch her. If anything were to befall Olivia and the werewolves, the blame was fully on him.

While Irilium was concerned about her, Olivia was concerned about something else. While watching her father, she noticed a brown mist around him. At first, she thought it was the power of the moonstone but the mist suddenly entered her body and she immediately fell asleep. She was sure it was still in her but how exactly was it affecting her?

All of that would have to wait till later. The duo had a war to prepare for. The weapons they could incorporate were already there so they didn't have to worry much. As for the crystal, their experiments weren't improving much. They knew how to produce it but how to use it, that was still a mystery.

The full moon soon came along. The emperor was in secluded training with Mirel while Irilium was teaching Olivia how to bestow the powers correctly. The atmosphere between them was still. Neither awkward nor friendly. They didn't talk till they needed to.

During the full moon, Irilium's heart skipped a beat when he saw how ethereal she looked being bathed by the moonlight. His first instinct was to worship her like the goddess she appeared to be. He snapped out of it but he could still feel something lingering there. It was either something was wrong with him or something was wrong with her.

Either way, they hardly had time to figure it out as winter quickly drew to an end. The war horns sounded again. The humans were fiercer than ever, wasting no time to attack. Their area of focus was strangely not the werewolf capital but the border towns of the vampire empire. With the royal family still residing in the werewolf capital, it seemed like a hopeless situation.

This, however, was a trap set by the two imperial families. The plan was to show their alliance and it started with the arrangement of the armies. The two who were at the forefront of the first battle of the year were none other than the Vampire empress and the werewolf emperor.

Empress Vaya's speciality was blood control. A true blood empress, she could control the blood, therefore the wills of those 300 meters from her. It made her a fierce opponent on the battlefield.

Emperor Jonathan's new powers was called Dragon Wolf. A wolf granted the powers of a dragon, he was a true beast on the battlefield. The two singlehandedly cleared the main troops, leaving the normal soldiers to clear out the rest.

The two earned a reputation from there. Bards and legends were concocted in their names. But of course, this was only the beginning of what was to come.
