55 Anger

The air was chilly, despite the scarf around his neck. He almost chuckled to himself despite the situation. Bastion wasn't giving anything away, nor would he make it easy on Rize. If she wanted their relationship to continue, then she had to withdraw her kagune. He wasn't going to give anything away or make it easy. She would have to trust the way he treated her and act accordingly.

Time ticked away as Touka drew closer. He had no idea if Touka could take on Rize and if they two started a fight, Bastion would end it. Slowly, she withdrew her kagune, just as he felt a powerful blow to the back of his head. He saw her eyes widen as a heavy weight pressed itself down on his neck. Before he hit the pavement, Bastion twisted letting the heavy weight fall off of him. Steel beams rained down on them both, by the hundreds. He started pulling on his chakra and dashed forward, just as one of the beams slammed into her shoulder. Bastion forced her down and positioned himself between her and the beams.

Hundreds of tons of metal slammed on top of him, plentiful as rain. Each piling up slamming the pile with ever more weight. The entire time he could only curse. Seconds passed by and the rain of steel stopped.

Rize's shoulder was screwed up. But slowly, it popped back into place. She opened her mouth and bit his shoulder ripping her face from side to side trying to tear skin. It was mildly uncomfortable on his part. Not only was his body tougher than a normal human, but his chakra increased his durability to new levels. Eventually, she settled few biting his shoulder to ease her own pain.

"I can't believe I'm trapped under this with the one human with unbreakable skin." Rize yelled. Bastion slowly put his legs under him and lifted. The steel creaked under his enormous strength. With a final heave the metal fell away from them.

"We aren't trapped get a grip. Will your shoulder heal on its own?" Bastion asked, then heard a series of snaps. Her shoulder was good as new.

"Do you know of any discreet hospitals? I need to get my head checked out. Blows to the back of the head are never good." Bastion said. "I'm feeling dizzy." Bastion said and slumped to the ground. Everything seemed to get blurry and far away.

"Leave him alone you bitch." Touka yelled full Kagune out and in attack mode.

"Not her some ass hat on roof don't engage. CCG maybe? Unsure need doctor." Bastion mumbled the world kept going in and out. His chakra control shit itself and he felt the pavement crumble beneath his feat, when he tried to take a step. "Doctor now, no control dangerous." Bastion said.

The two looked at each other and slowly he was led away as the sound of sirens pricked his ears. He was jerked around a lot and put in the back of a car. He touched a door and it exploded. From then on Touka wouldn't let him touch anything. "What's wrong with him?" Yomo asked.

"He was hit in the back of the head and can't control his strength." The ride to the next place was long and took many turns. He wasn't allowed to touch anything. Bastion hadn't felt so weak in a long time. He if lost control for a second, his chakra could rush out and shatter everything around him. The problem was, to heal, he needed to let his chakra run wild. It was a chicken and egg problem.

"What do you mean by, he can't control his strength?" Yomo asked. Bastion took a breath and willed his body up. He was in the back of a van held down by Touka.

"Sleep now." Bastion muttered and for Rize to flick his nose. Bastion glared at him and she smiled.

"If you go to sleep you'll fall into a coma." Bastion tilted his head to the side.

"I won't." He said and felt the titan within his chakra awaken. A second store of chakra and natural energy reconnected with his own and he felt the being's strange consciousness brush by his own. The giant studied his injury. Its alien mind deduced that there was a problem and started fighting Bastion to unleash his chakra.

They stopped, and Bastion felt them move him through a building. His sight was leaving him and all he could do was hold back the giant. His left eye was forced open and something was injected in the side. Bastion felt his muscles relax and his chakra settled. This was just what he needed. Instead of violently ripping through everything around him. His chakra went to work fixing the problem. Quickly, his chakra worked through the rest of his body searching for any trauma. Bastion woke up hours later in a hospital gown. He looked over to see a man who held a giddy expression.

Dr. Kanou, was a man who wants to evolve humanity. A noble if not misguided goal. One Bastion could certainly use to his own ends. The question is, should he Genjutsu the man or simply manipulate him free style.

"Your body is something extraordinary. Not even quinque steel can cut you. I would hazard, that not even kagune can damage you. Giving you a sedative was difficult. We had to use a different method." Professor Kanou said. Bastion stood up and stretched. Bones popped, and his body filled with chakra. "It was worth it, to keep you alive young man. But I must ask, what are you?"

"I'm merely a human, a being between animal and god. That is what a human is when you get down to it. Well, I'm closer to a god by a degree than the average human. Nothing more nothing less." Bastion said.

"A bold claim, do you think yourself modest." Dr. Kanou yelled. Bastion put his shirt on and looked around the room.

"Am I not allowed visitors?" Bastion asked.

"The ghouls you were with are down in the lobby. Its interesting that a human would choose to rely upon ghouls. But I suppose you don't see them as threats, do you?" Dr. Kanou said. Bastion chuckled a bit.

"I grew up with one of them and I just went out on a date with the purple haired one. By the way what names did they give. Hopefully not their real names. I would have to mind wipe the whole hospital if that happened, just to be sure." Dr. Kanou looked affronted.

"No, I have to keep my memories. I must remember that there is more out there than humans and ghouls." He shouted, before Bastion raised his hand. Once the man quieted down, Bastion continued.

"I have no intention of erasing your memory. You seem like an intelligent man. Even I have a need for a medical professional. There is a project I want to try. I want to alter the makeup of RC cells and create something beneficial. I'm willing to give you access to a resource you haven't seen before. Natural energy. An energy form that all matter can transform into. You could call it omni energy, it is to matter what stem cells are to the human body." Bastion said. And picked up a napkin. It held little natural energy but with a flicker of his will the piece of paper disintegrated forming a small green speck of natural energy. Dr. Kanou looked at the hovering dot of natural energy like he had seen god.

"You would give me this for my services?" Dr. Kanou asked.

"This isn't a reward, this is a tool you will need merely another material for your experiments." Bastion said, letting his words sink in. It was time to sell it. "Your reward is what you've always wanted an advancement in humanity above ghouls and the common man. Even greater than that I'm allowing you to keep your free will. Every action, every experiment, and every triumph will be held to your own consciousness. Ensure the ends justify the means Doctor." Bastion said. "I'll check in from time to time. If you have any further questions, ask."

The man was stunned caught between excitement and trepidation. "What do you gain from this?" Dr. Kanou said.

"Human kind is heading for a dark age. The birth rate is declining, welfare is growing, and no one knows how to solve these problems. This is my hail Mary play. Perhaps, with a jumpstart to human evolution the dark age can be avoided. If it can't maybe the evolved humans can pick up the pieces faster this time." Bastion said.

"I didn't think a god would be a humanitarian." Dr. Kanou said with a laugh.

"I'm not, I'm a selfish bastard that like his games, music, and picking up hot girls. I'm far from a humanitarian of any sort." Bastion said, much to the older man's amusement. Bastion set down a few vials filled with a solution. "These vials contain a mixture that traps natural energy. Have fun." Bastion said.

Bastion sighed and left the hospital room to the sounds of mad laughter
