Wolf Camp

Vergil woke up to the feeling of sort some of animal on his chest. It was a small light bluebird, that couldn't seem to help itself from pecking at Vergil's chest. "Ouch. Stop it, that hurts." Vergil said as he swatted the bird away. The bird flew away but not before leaving Vergil with a small hole in his robes.

"Well that's just great, I got birds poking at me now." Vergil slowly touched his chest area analyzing his robes, before deciding it was time to get up. Vergil slowly got up and surveyed his surroundings. It was the afternoon and Vergil could see that the bright yellow sun was slowly making its swap with the moon.

"I guess I slept for longer than expected," Vergil said as he made his way over to his backpack and Ryujin Jakka. "As much as I'd love to keep lazing around, I got some wolves to track down." Vergil put on his backpack that had Ryujin Jakka inside it and made his way over to the bow he had thrown earlier.

"Although I can't use you to shoot at people because of my broken right arm. That doesn't mean I can't use you." Vergil said as he toyed around with the strings of the bow and the arrowheads. "This bow is pretty durable and these arrows are pretty sharp. I'm pretty sure that if needed I can just use these as melee weapons."

Vergil eyed his set for a while before putting the arrows in his already stuffed backpack. Vergil knew that the backpack wasn't big enough to fit the bow, so he just held onto it with his left arm.

"I think that the best way to find out where the wolves are would be to follow the footsteps of those wolves that attacked me earlier," Vergil said as he made his way over to the spot where he had originally been attacked. Although it would have been pretty difficult to find out his original spot, Vergil was able to, because the wolves had made quite a mess of the trees and the ground as they chased him throughout.

Once Vergil arrived at his original spot, he looked around for a bit before noticing some light footprints on the ground. He eyed them and noticed that there were 4 almost identical ones all seemingly following one main one. He realized that there was probably a mini leader amongst the small group and that he needed to follow it in the hopes of finding the hideout.

Vergil began to follow the footprints for a while before noticing that they all split up a certain spot. "This is probably the spot where they all met up at." Vergil thought to himself before deciding to follow the middle one.

He followed it for what seemed like hours before he heard a small howl. Vergil immediately hid behind a tree, hoping that he had not been found out. After a while, Vergil realized his actions were unnecessary and got out from behind the tree. Making sure to be extra cautious, Vergil followed the footsteps once again before noticing something.

He noticed a large group of wolves standing in a line, while one big wolf with a large horn on his head surveyed them. Vergil immediately sharpened his senses to the extreme in an attempt to identify what was going on. He noticed the wolves were making what seemed to be offerings towards the big wolf. Anything from berries to cones to meat, the wolves all seemed to be fessing it up to this one wolf.

Vergil didn't know much about wolf behavior, but he knew that the big wolf was probably the one known as the "alpha". Steadying himself, Vergil put down his backpack and took out Ryujin Jakka along with some arrows. Vergil realized that trying to attack a large amount of wolves head-on would probably be suicide, and decided to use his natural stealth from the [Hunter] job to his advantage instead.

Vergil decided to take with him 3 arrows and his bow as well as Ryujin Jakka. To increase his stealth, Vergil covered himself in mud and used the stickiness of the mud to stick some leaves from a nearby tree onto his body.

Once preparations were complete, Vergil made his way over to the wolf camp, making sure to remain undetected by hiding behind trees and the like. Once Vergil got into the perimeter, he noticed some wolves were patrolling the area and decided to take them out before infiltrating the main base.

Vergil lay down flat on his stomach and wiggled his way towards an unsuspecting wolf. He got just close enough where he could hear the wolf's breathing and with a quick slice, cut the wolf's neck. Blood spewed everywhere as the wolf attempted to make a sound but was unable to as his voice box had been cut.

Not wanting the wolf to make any more movements, Vergil smashed the wolves head in with Ryujin Jakka, immediately killing it. "One down, many more to go," Vergil said to himself as he hid the body of the wolf behind a tree.

Once Vergil hid the body, he made his way over to the remaining wolves repeating this same process over and over again until there was only one wolf left. The wolf in question was lazing around and didn't notice that he was the last one remaining out of his comrades.

Seemingly unaware of what was about to happen to him, the wolf yawned before he felt a presence. Suspecting it was one of his comrades, the wolf didn't say anything until he turned around and saw the man in question.

The man was covered in mud with leaves all over his body. He had a cold, expressionless face, and had very white hair along with some elf ears, one of which was halfway broken off. The wolf immediately recognized the man as an enemy and tried to howl, but to no avail as he could not muster a single howl from his now cut neck.

The wolf gurgled some blood before his eyes went backward as he died from asphyxiation. The wolf fell on its side, the last thing it saw before dying being an elf.

"That was easy." Vergil thought to himself as he dragged the last remaining scout over to the tree he had been putting the other bodies in.

He made sure the bodies were well secluded before sneaking his way over to the main part of the base. Vergil saw that the wolves had now finished giving their offerings and were roaming around. Some of the wolves were eating while others took care of the young or slept.

Vergil also noticed that the big wolf was nowhere to be found and saw it as some kind of blessing as the big wolf had looked relatively sturdy. Vergil made his way over to one of the sleeping wolves before repeating the process of cutting its neck so it could make no sounds.

Vergil decided that the smartest thing would be to kill the already sleeping wolves, as it would be difficult to tell whether they were asleep or dead once killed. Vergil left the sleeping wolf he had killed in the same spot before once again slowly making his way over to his next victim. This process probably wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the geography of the wolf base.

The wolf base had leaves all over it as well as small shrubs all around it that reached up to Vergil's ankle. Combined with his passive stealth stat and all the natural camouflaging he had put on himself, Vergil was almost undetectable.

Once Vergil was done taking out all the sleeping wolves, he slowly made his way over to the ones who were eating. Although things would become a lot more complicated when taking out live targets, Vergil realized that the eating wolves would probably be the next best to take out, as they were too busy concentrating on their food to even take notice of Vergil.

Vergil slowly made his way over to a wolf who was busy munching on some meat and with a quick but strong bash, he immediately cracked open the wolves skull, killing him instantly. Although slicing the neck was easier and quieter, Vergil had no choice but to do the louder of the two options and cracked the skull of the wolf. Vergil had to do this as getting on top of the wolf and slicing the neck would cause it to make a small reflex sound and coming in front of the wolf would immediately alert it.

Even though Vergil had been expecting this, he was still surprised by the fact that opening the skull was pretty loud. He looked around only to notice he had been worrying for nothing, as the wolves were still to busy in their own matters to notice anything.

Vergil sighed a sigh of relief and quickly got back down on his stomach, in fear of being noticed by any nearby wolves. Meanwhile, in another part of the wolf camp, a wolf was making its way over to its partner as dinner had been brought. It had noticed its partner had been quieter than usual when sleeping and decided to make sure it was alright. The wolf tried waking its partner up but to no avail, as its partner had been killed.

The wolf had been worrying for a long time now but decided to put it off as some sort of coma. It was about to leave but accidentally stepped on something wet. It stood still for a while before checking its paws. On its paws was the cold blood of none other than its partner. The wolf immediately howled out, alerting the others.

Vergil was about to make his way over to another one of the unsuspecting wolves before he heard a howl so loud it probably had resounded throughout the whole forest. Vergil immediately went into alert mode as he realized one of the wolves had found out what he had done. Vergil didn't have the time to put away the bodies one by one, he also didn't have the materials to wipe the blood from the ground.

He had suspected that one of the wolves would eventually find out what happened, but he didn't expect it to happen so early. As soon as the wolf howled out, all the other wolves had gone into high alert dropping whatever they were doing and putting safety as their #1 priority.

They immediately went to the middle of the base camp, where the strong males made some kind of circle around the huddled wolves. Wolves had some kind of instinct to protect their loved ones, and so these wolves that were currently circling the huddled wolves would risk their lives to protect them.

Vergil noticed what the wolves were doing and immediately cursed at himself for not being faster. "Tch, so they're gonna make things difficult for me? Well, there's only one thing to do now." Vergil got up and immediately attracted the attention of the wolves who growled at him with killing intent.

These wolves would not hesitate to pounce at Vergil but were reluctant to do so right now, as they were trying to protect the others. Vergil noticed this and immediately put his plan of luring the wolves out to the side. His original plan had been to bait the wolves away from the others and make them chase him throughout the forest.

Although Vergil wasn't very confident in his current agility skill, he could just use stealth to his advantage and make the wolves wonder where he had gone. Once the wolves lost track of him, he would make his way back to the camp where the other wolves were, and use them as some kind of hostage. Although Vergil knew this was scummy, this was also the only way he could have won the fight.

Now that Vergil was seeing how the wolves truly acted though, that plan had gone down the drain. Switching to plan B, Vergil steadied the arrows he had been holding and launched one at one of the Wolves. The arrow although not as powerful without a bow, still managed to lodge itself into one of the eyes of the wolves, agitating it. The Wolf becoming agitated, lost all reasoning and immediately pounced at Vergil. Vergil dodged the wolf before hitting it with all his power on its chest. The Wolf's ribs immediately broke, and the wolf fell lifelessly to the ground, as he was currently experiencing immense pain from his broken ribs.

Vergil noticed this and decided to put it out of its misery as he lodged Ryujin Jakka deep into its skull. Once done, Vergil dislodged the staff and stared at the remaining wolves before saying, "Who's next?"
