5 Know Your Place(Edited)

"Yeager Gege, you're still at home. I thought that you would have gone to work by now."

Lu Jia had a curious look on her face since it was rare to have all of the Yue family members around in the morning. However, when she looked around the room, she was surprised to see the harmonious atmosphere of the three of them sitting down and eating breakfast together.

"Am I disturbing your family time?" Lu Jia gave an apologetic face.

"Since when have you been allowed to enter our home as you wish? You need to remember that this mansion belongs to the Yue family. You are not one of us," in a harsh tone, Yue Yeager berated her.

"Uncle Yue, please don't blame my aunt. I wanted to come here."

A sweet and innocent young girl who was hiding behind Lu Jia moved in front of her Aunt as if to protect her from Yue Yeager's wrath.

"Meili had heard from others about what happened at yesterday's party and I was concerned about Yue Wan."

With a worried expression, Lu Meili turned to look at Yue Wan who was still sitting at the table, eating breakfast.

"Is Little sister feeling better?"

Lu Meili intentionally used the term Little Sister as she knew that Yue Wan loathed her profoundly and she wanted to create a reaction from her in front of Yue Yeager. The more Yue Wan acted out, the better it would be for her and her Aunt. Yue Wan already guessed her act, so she played along with her.

"Little sister? Who is that? Daddy is Miss Lu Meili's sister working on our manor?"

Yue Wan tilted her head to the side and looked at her father.

Lu Meili's face went down hearing her remark. With an ugly look in her eyes, she bit her lower lip and clenched her jaw. Even Lu Jia scowled at her comment.

Yue Yeager brushed the bangs on Yue Wan's forehead lovingly.

"No honey, Miss Meili is asking about your health."

Yue Wan had a confused expression, "If she's asking about me, then why didn't she address me as the Young Miss or Miss Yue?"

Yue Wan glanced back at Lu Meili and curled her lips in disdain.

Seeing Lu Meili's face flush red in embarrassment from her remark, she started cutting the meat before her in a decent manner and then set the piece on her dad's plate, not giving Lu Meili room to speak.

"You ought to know how to properly address others, Miss. Lu, I am sure that you don't want people to start questioning your manners or upbringing. Since this is my home, I won't criticize you much, but, if you show such lack of understanding out in public, won't our families' Elders and other members of our circle scorn my Father?"

Yue Wan passed another piece of meat in a proper elegance to the plate right next to her father. That spot belonged to her big brother Yue Xiang. She wanted to start treating them better after everything that she had put them through before.

By looking at the way she acted when the Lu's family arrived, Yue Xiang realized that she had a plan in place. Making himself comfortable at the table, he was ready to stay for a while to enjoy the show.

However, seeing her pass the piece of meat to his father, made him astonished. Was this also part of her plan? He hoped that she would not be so cruel as to give her father some hope before dashing it completely. As if trying to see insider her mind, Yue Xiang's gaze never left Yue Wan's eyes.

Lu Meili held back the tears in her eyes and, with a pale face, she stammered: "I- I never intended to disrespect Uncle Yue! I have always seen him as a father figure, a replacement for my Dad, so I thought that you would also start to see me as your big sister. However, it seems like I was wrong. I am so sorry, Miss Yue. I won't make the same mistake again..."

She covered her face with her delicate, white hands as she cried and spoke her true feelings with difficulty. After all, who would have thought that Yue Wan would have berated her for a lack of manners like that? She did not see that coming as Yue Wan was never one to have a calm, collected mind. This situation was turning out completely different from what she imagined.

If any outsiders had seen this, they would have thought that the prestigious Yue family's Young Miss was a bully and harassing a pitiable young woman out of spite. Unfortunately for Lu Meili, there were no outsiders there to see her award-winning performance.

On Yue Wan's side, she would gracefully accept the criticism because it was true. She did indeed enjoy torturing that Aunt and Niece pair with her status and authority. Since they were trying to overstep their boundaries, why not put them in their place?

Lu Jia could not accept her niece being scolded by someone from the Yue family. "Yue Wan, how could you say that to your sister? Even my brother never said a word, so where do you get the authority to disrespect us like that? Lu Meili has only been kind and gracious to you, and this is how you treat her? Is this how our Yue family treats a guest?!?"

Lu Jia craftily created the impression that she was also a member of the Yue Family and that Yue Yeager acknowledged Lu Meili. Therefore, if Yue Wan said anything against Lu Meili, she was being disrespectful to her father and his authority as the head of the family.

Yue Wan's lips arched into a gentle smile and she fluttered her eyelashes, like a bird's wing, innocent and enchanting. "What do you mean, Miss Lu? I simply was trying to correct her manners in a kind-hearted manner and she started crying like the world was going to end. I fail to see how that was my fault. In regards to my father, he is known by everyone in this city as an honourable, upright man. The reason he supported you for so long? You know it already, but how do you act? You seem to think that we owe you a huge debt, instead of being grateful for all of the help and support my father has given you."

Yue Wan narrowed her gaze and her voice turned icy cold, "I don't have to remind you about the Yue family rule, Miss Lu. It would be beneficial to everyone if you knew your place."

Never in Lu Jia's imagination would she be told directly by Yue Wan that Yue family refused to have anything to do with her and Meili.

Yue Wan even addressing her as Miss Lu rather than Aunt Lu. After being treated that way, Lu Jia could not respond unless she wanted Yue Yeager to cut off any of the support he has been providing her for the past number of years.

Lu Jia wished that she could slap Yue Wan across the face for her arrogance. Her eyes turned bloodshot trying to suppress her rage and hatred. See her Aunt's fluctuating emotions, Lu Meili give a light squeeze to Lu Jia's hand. Immediately, Lu Jia came to her senses and cried sorrowfully.

"Miss Yue..."

Lu Meili's face was filled with hostility as she shed some tears, trying to appear like an abused victim of a haughty young miss. Once again, outsiders would only feel the need to protect her from her agony. Once again, there were no outsiders in the Yue family dining room.

"I understand that you can instruct me on my manners, however, my Aunt is of an older generation and you need to show some respect to her."

Protectively, she embraced Lu Jia, who was wailing as if her heart was breaking and covering her face with her hands. Lu Meili continued with a brittle voice.

"She sacrificed her whole life for me. It's my fault for not acting in a proper manner befitting the Yue family, so please don't blame her. My aunt has always believed that we could be one big, happy family, however, it is our fault for having such expectations. Clearly, we are the only ones concerned about family ties."

Lu Meili apologetically hung her head in front of Yue Yeager, showing off her soft, obedient side.

"Uncle Yue, we deeply apologize for creating such a huge misunderstanding here."
