Chapter 1Chapter 1: The End and The Beginning

Rayne Ashbringer wasn't special. Orphaned at a young age, he grew up on the streets of a bustling city, surviving day by day. Life had taught him to be resilient, but it hadn't been kind. He was used to the feeling of cold concrete beneath him, the taste of stale bread, and the indifferent looks from passersby. At 17, Rayne had become adept at navigating the harsh realities of life, yet he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that he was destined for something more—something greater. But that feeling remained a distant hope, buried beneath the weight of daily survival.

It was an ordinary day when everything changed. Rayne had just managed to scrounge up enough money for a meager meal, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of how he would survive the coming winter. He didn't notice the truck barreling down the street until it was too late.

Time seemed to slow as Rayne turned his head, catching sight of the vehicle mere moments before it collided with him. There was no time to react, no time to move. In a flash, everything went dark.

Rayne felt a strange sensation—like floating in a void.

His consciousness flickered in and out, as if struggling to cling to existence. Memories of his life flashed before his eyes: the cold nights, the hunger, the loneliness. But there were also moments of warmth—the rare kindness from strangers, the laughter of children he watched from afar, and the books he read in the library, escaping into worlds of fantasy and adventure.

As the memories faded, Rayne realized something: he wasn't scared. He had always imagined death to be terrifying, but in this emptiness, there was a strange sense of peace. And then, a thought struck him. Is this really the end?

Before he could ponder further, a blinding light enveloped him, pulling him out of the void. His body felt strange—small, fragile, and weak. It was as if he was being compressed, forced into a vessel too tiny for his consciousness.

He struggled to open his eyes, his vision blurred.

Sounds reached his ears—muffled voices, crying, and the rustle of cloth. It took a few moments for him to make sense of what he was hearing, and even longer to comprehend what he was seeing.

This isn't Earth, Rayne realized as his vision cleared, revealing a strange room illuminated by soft candlelight. He was in a cradle, surrounded by unfamiliar faces. They weren't the cold, indifferent faces he was used to—these were warm, caring, though tinged with concern.

Rayne's heart raced as he tried to make sense of his situation. He moved his tiny limbs and noticed something even more jarring: he was a baby. Panic set in, but before he could react, exhaustion overwhelmed him, and his consciousness faded once more.

Days turned into weeks, and Rayne gradually adapted to his new reality.

He was reborn in a world that was eerily familiar yet entirely different from the one he knew. The language, the customs, the architecture—it all clicked into place as he slowly recalled where he had seen it before. He was in the world of Naruto.

How is this possible? Rayne wondered, though the answer eluded him. His memories of his past life were still intact, but they felt distant, like a dream he had just awoken from. He was aware of his surroundings in a way no infant should be, and he knew that this world was one filled with danger and opportunity.

The orphanage he found himself in was modest, yet warm, a far cry from the cold streets of his previous life. The caretakers were kind, and the other children, though rambunctious, were just as normal as any children could be. But Rayne was anything but normal. He spent his days observing, learning, and, most importantly, testing.

One day, while watching the older children play, Rayne experienced something extraordinary.

A boy tried to imitate a basic transformation jutsu he had seen a ninja perform on the street. As Rayne watched, a tingling sensation coursed through his tiny body. Without understanding how, he instinctively mimicked the boy's hand signs. To his surprise, his small, chubby hands executed the jutsu perfectly, and for a split second, his form flickered, changing ever so slightly.

Shock jolted through Rayne, causing the jutsu to dispel before it could fully take effect. No one noticed what had happened, but Rayne knew. He had just used a jutsu—something no ordinary baby could do. It wasn't just any jutsu; he had copied it perfectly, down to the hand signs and chakra control.

Rayne's mind raced.

He had always admired the characters in the Naruto series, but he never imagined being one of them. And now, it seemed he had been granted a power unlike any other. A power to copy anything he saw, anything he could understand.

It was overwhelming, exhilarating, and terrifying all at once. What am I capable of? Rayne wondered as he stared at his tiny hands, realizing that his new life held endless possibilities.

As days passed, Rayne continued to experiment in secret.

He copied the movements of the children around him, their mannerisms, and even their speech patterns. He found that his ability wasn't limited to just jutsu—he could mimic anything, even concepts like someone's fighting style or their way of thinking.

Rayne kept his abilities hidden, knowing that revealing them could bring unwanted attention. This world was filled with dangers, and power, as he knew from his past life, always attracted those who sought to exploit it.

But Rayne wasn't deterred. If anything, his experiences on Earth had made him resilient, determined to seize this second chance. He was no longer a helpless orphan on the streets—he was a child with the potential to become something more, something great.

A man from an Earth gets the choice to start over in any Universe and chooses an Alternate Pokemon Universe. Let us see if his journey to the top is succesful and the impact he will have on his new world. Pokemon is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures Inc. I just use their sandbox for the plot of my MC and my OCs. This will be a "slow" paced story, in fact it's "super slow paced", so please don't expect the MC to directly start his journey in 20 chapters or so, actually multiply that by like 15. A lot is going to happen before that happens. The first 10-20 chapters or so are information heavy, depending on what kind of reader you are. I try to keep my chapter length between 2000 and 3000 words per chapter. My release rate is 4 chapter/week for now. I have a patre*n for those that want to support me with access to some advance chapters as a thank you. patre*n.com/Azrail93 This is an alternate pokemon universe so there will be differences to the games, manga and anime. So if something in the story is different it is most likely on purpose. The original sources are seen as suggestions not laws. Differences can be: Type variants, evolution conditions, strength mechanics, world building and more. If I am at some point asking for reader input I will do so but otherwise I will ignore most suggestions. So please don't spam things like catch this pokemon or do that next. I have my plot planned and external input will be considered when asked for. If I see a suggestion that I believe fit my plot flow I will use it and will credit the commentor. Comments on spelling and grammar mistakes are welcome. I will try to correct said mistakes with time. Constructive criticism will be read and considered. Insult and hate comments will be ignored or deleted depending on severity. Readers naturally can comment their dislike but one worders will be ignored. If the reason for the dislike is explained I will read it. Like previously mentioned pure insults and hate comments will be ignored or deleted. The same is true for simple hate reviews or insulting ones. Reviews complaining about something I warned about, such as the slow pace, will be deleted as well.
