35 Rest and new Family members.
[Kaito POV]
It's been a day since the sports festival, I've decided to call another meeting with everyone to talk about our performances in the sports festival, unfortunately most of them shot down my invite so I had to wait until weekend since everyone would be free those days.
Right now, I'm walking around the city to see if anything new is going around.
'There's nothing to do in these two days, I wanted to train the whole day for these days but mom decided to object and threw me out of the house.'
To be fair, she was amazed after seeing me fight seriously, but also worried for my violent ways.
'Is she worried that I'll become a maniac?'
Without noticing I reached Hermes's shop, I've stopped coming as a regular after my weapons were finished, and the rest of the transactions were made via phone so, I basically stopped coming at all, might as well see if that snake is here.
"Yo! Hermes! Your favorite client has returned!" I enter the store.
'Weird? Hermes should have come the moment he heard my voice. Maybe he is busy with something?'
Before I could leave, I heard something falling in the background of the store. I went towards it due to my boredom and I saw an amazing.
A being in a cage that had reptile-like wings and a scorpion tail. I'm no expert but it seemed to be a manticore, upon closer inspection I deduced that it was some sort of animal, I was shocked to say the least, why would Hermes have a living animal here?
Before I could react, I felt a type of hook inches away from my neck.
"Well, hello there Kobayashi Kaito."
I couldn't see him, but I knew the moment I heard his voice that it was Hermes.
"Never picked you as an animal trafficker Hermes. I always thought of you as a butler of sorts but never a trafficker."
"My, my Kobayashi-kun, its not nice to say stuff like that about your friends, especially with those that can threaten your life."
Hermes grazes my neck with his hook. At this point I have to relax, taking into account Hermes's nature, he is protective of his store and merchandise, therefore, this is some sort of test.
"Ok, ok cut the act, I know you well enough to tell that this is some sort of test. So 'fess up and explain this."
Hermes knew that I saw through his bluff and retrieved his hook.
"Such a shame, for a second there I thought that I could see one of your fancy techniques up close."
"Really? You just admitted that easily?"
"Well, I do have a full honesty rule when dealing with customers."
"And illegal trafficking apparently."
"That is a separate subject, would you like to hear the story?"
I nodded and Hermes explained.
Apparently, last week while moving some goods through a forest area Hermes's convoy was attacked by the "animal" in the cage. He tried to get rid of it, but it came back to attack the convoy, so Hermes had to take him down.
Using the fact that it is an interesting animal Hermes decided to throw him inside the merchandise to study his appearance and the animal has been in his cage for the rest of the week.
"I'm no vet expert but, even I can spot one or two things wrong with your whole story."
"But I have been as truthful as ever." Hermes fakes a tear.
"We both know that's not what I meant…Ah forget it! what are you gonna do with the kid?"
"Well, since I'm no human trafficker, as you have claimed, I have been keeping him there in the back waiting for a chance to get rid of him. Without harming him of course."
"Why not simply give him to the anti-cruelty squad?"
"Well, Kobayashi-kun, to be honest, I did in fact tried that, however…"
"What?"
"Every time either my staff or me delivered him to the authorities, he just escaped and came back."
"Well, you know what they say about feeding stray dogs…they will always come back for more."
"True, so, how about you do me a little favor."
"I will if you give me an 50% discount on every purchase I make."
"Oh my, I thought that you were an altruistic person, what happened with that?"
"Oh, I am, the problem is that I have no idea if mom will allow him to stay with us."
"So, you are telling me, that future #1 hero Kobayashi Kaito, can't take care of a simple pet?"
"I hate what you are doing, on the other hand, leaving a dangerous animal at your care might not be a good idea. Fine I'll see what I can do, I'll still have that discount though."
"25% and the kid, you have to take him to this direction, he will get all his documents and you'll get a copy of the adoption document."
Hermes starts to write a direction and gives me the key for the cage.
I open the cage and the manticore-like being lunges at me and tries to bite me, unfortunately for him I'm too strong and he can't damage me in the slightest. I fed him some food I had in Nezuko and took him out to the direction.
'That whole exchange was strange, from Hermes's behavior to this animal's origin, something is fishy, but my gut still tells me to help this kid, so I'll worry about the other later.' I thought after walking for a while with the kid biting my leg.
[At Hermes's store]
[Third person POV]
'Kobayashi -kun, I wonder if you'll be able to take care of that being.'
"Sir! The results on the nomu are complete."
"Is the chip in place?"
"Yes sir! The chip is running constant diagnosis on the nomu."
"Excellent, it seems that our little friend will be our guinea pig, are you sure that 'he' cannot control it."
"We are not 100% sure sir, but the tests edge closer to that option."
"Good, leave and tell all staff that Kobayashi Kaito gets 25% off in every purchase he makes."
"YES SIR!"
"Now then, its time to visit an old friend of mine, isn't that, right? Masaru-san?"
Masaru Daisuke comes out from the shadows with a menacing glare towards Hermes.
"Why did you do that Hermes?" Daisuke was oozing killing intent.
"Careful Masaru-san, otherwise your keen kid might come back." Hermes said without a single care.
"Why give him a nomu?"
"Because I felt like it. So far, your son has entertained me by making possible the impossible, so, I'll see how he will handle this situation."
Daisuke gets closer to Hermes and starts choking him. Hermes tries to free himself but fails, Daisuke glares at him and speaks.
"If you ever damage them, I swear you will not see the end of that day."
Daisuke drops Hermes on the ground and disappears without leaving a trace.
"*COUGH…COUGH* Same temper as always it seems." Hermes gets up and clears his throat.
"But that just leaves one question. Why someone as protective as you would hurt them the way you did?"
Hermes closes the shop and goes back into the staff room. A room filled with corpses of nomus inside chambers.
"Now then, let's prepare for phase 2." Hermes says as he sees a chamber with a big entity with the name tag: ENDGAME.
[Kobayashi Kaia POV]
I was a little concerned about Kai-kun's behavior, he looked like a bloodthirsty maniac from a story, so I got him out of the house to prepare a surprise party for winning the sports festival.
'Hm, I have everything for the feast, now I only have to buy his favorite dessert. Let's hope that the store is not so full this time.' I thought.
While I was reaching the store, I heard something moving and crashing in an alley, of course I'm no fool to this and got away from there, alas the curiosity got the worst of me and I heard a small movement in one of the trashcans.
What I saw there would change my world forever.
[???? POV]
I hate this world. Quirks, heroes, villains, I hate everything there is here. My quirk is called bone control, it allows me to control my bones around my body, my bones can tear my skin and be used as weapons or alter the bone structure of my body, I also have a minor healing factor, which allows me to heal from the injuries my bones cause me.
When I was born my quirk activated and killed my mother, I literally ripped through her with some sorts of bone claws. I heard that my mother loved me, even though I am her killer, she loved me and held me till her final breath.
My father however, he found my existence despicable, why did I kill his wife? Why was I born with this quirk? His hatred made him a monster that could only hate me. The next eight years I was subjected to physical and mental abuse, each time being worse.
I have never been loved, even other family members despised me and never showed a single hint of affection. I have no name, no family no meaning to live so I escaped my "home" and went to a nearby alley, I hid in a trashcan but that was a mistake.
One of the garbage collectors threw the trashcan's trash with me inside, I assume because he didn't care enough to see if anything was inside. I was smashed by the truck's compress and was about to die until my quirk activated and my bones became as hard as steel and I cut my way out.
I wanted them to help me, maybe show me some compassion, but in the end, they just left me there to die and left scared.
'I guess I was wishing to much, it seems that I will never have "that", I can fell my body losing heat, it seems that my healing factor won't be saving me this time.' I thought as I made my way towards the trashcan.
'At least here I will not bother anyone with my death.' I leaned my head and it made a sound when it touched the trashcan making it fall.
Suddenly I heard a voice calling me but I was too weak to reply, I want all the pain to go away, I don't care how but I just…don't see a reason to live anymore.
The last thing I remember is that someone was carrying me and took me somewhere. Why bother? No one saved me before, why save me now?
[Kaia POV]
The moment I saw his injuries I pocketed my groceries and carried the child, he looked as if something heavy had squashed him, I took him to the nearest hospital hoping that he could get better.
I called Kai-kun and told him about the situation, he told me that he would meet me at the hospital.
The kid kept mumbling things like "leave me here" or "life is painful". It was heartbreaking to see a kid this young to have these types of thoughts.
I arrived at the hospital and gave the report about the kid, and waited for Kai-kun. Moments like this are what make me reflect on my past actions, my romance with Daisuke, my bad role as a mother to Kai-kun, at one point I was in the same mental situation as the kid, if Kai-kun hadn't helped me I don't even want to imagine said life.
The medics worked fast and thankfully the kid was stable, his regeneration quirk allows him to heal himself as long as he is given enough nutrients, thankfully his organs were only ruptured, so after being injected with supplements he started to heal once again.
Now, he is in a comatose state, what kind of person could do such a thing. Kai-kun told me that he recently found a stray dog so he couldn't enter the hospital and asked me if I could meet him outside.
"How is the kid?" He asked.
"Physically, he is getting better, mentally, I have no idea but I believe it's bad."
"What have the authorities said about that?"
"Nothing yet, the kid will remain here until the legal guardian is found, hopefully.
Kai-kun looked at me a little saddened, he knows what's like to have a bad father, so I think he hopes for the kid's state to be because another thing.
"Is this the dog you were talking about?" I looked at the animal besides Kai-kun.
"Oh yeah, our new family member, whose name I haven't picked yet." Kai-kun raises the animal. (Lion king style.)
"W-where exactly did you find him?" I asked a little nervous after looking at it up closely.
"From a mysterious store, why?"
"Are you sure he is not dangerous?"
"Of course, he is not dangerous, or he will pay for that." Kai-kun looks at the 'dog' menacing and it shivers.
After the brief exchange, we took a stroll around the city until the authorities contacted us to explain the situation.
The kid's name is Kagura Jinsei, he was born with a bone type quirk that accidentally made him kill his mother, his father hated him for that and subjected him through various types of abuse, even other family members did the same.
Now, all of them were deemed unfit to take care of him and therefore will be sent to trial and Jinsei to an orphanage. I felt sad for him but knew that I couldn't do much for the kid.
"Can we adopt him?" Kai-kun asked, which surprised me.
"Kai-kun, are you sure?"
"Mom, I believe that adopting him might be the best option, in orphanages most of the kids hate the place, and hearing the types of abuse that he has been through I can only believe that he won't heal there, so how about we help him together?"
'As always, you show me a different way Kai-kun, you always go for that extra mile. Its true, we can't help everyone, so helping those close by is the right thing to do.' I thought.
We talked about it more and we reached the conclusion that I will adopt Jinsei and raise him as my son, Kai-kun will be his older brother. All of that will have to wait until he awakens from his coma but, I hope I can save him from his depression, just like Kai-kun saved me from mine.
With our family expanding, I feel a small warm sensation. A sensation that made me remember of my months of pregnancy alongside Daisuke, the warm feeling of complete family.
