16 The Equalists Part 2

(With the Equalists and Gon)

"No," Gon said as he stepped up to the stage, "Things can be different. I am a bender, and I helped you."

That statement came with gasps from the crowd. They couldn't believe that a bender would help them. All their lives, they had been treated as useless, inefficient, defectives.

In their eyes, those who could use bending were lucky. They were born with power and garnered respect and fear using weak moves. That was why gangs in Republic City were so powerful, they oppressed those without power and never faced the consequences of their actions.

The only people that helped them were the police, and even they got subdued by the council. The council was a group of benders from each tribe that was able to bend and so they were also proud and arrogant. They oppressed them their whole lives.

For some of them, it wasn't the first time a bender had helped them, but it wasn't rare and mostly because the bender was protecting his or her non-bending sibling.

Most of the crowd couldn't believe the words that came from Gon's mouth.

"Prove it!!!" A crowd member shouted.

"YEAH!!!" The others in the crowd chorused.

"Okay, I shall," Gon boomed.

Once those words came out of his mouth, a fire bloomed from his hands. The scene caused the people from the crowd to question whether or not to join the equalists.

Amon seeing the lack of uncertainty on the crowd's faces, knew that he had to say something. He couldn't lose them. In Amon's belief, bending was cancer, and cancer needed to get eradicated. His father had been the person to show him that when he had attacked his brother. Equality was everything to him.

He wanted to attack Gon but knew that if he did, he would lose the crowd completely.

"You won't always be there to save them," Amon said, "How can you make sure this won't happen again?"

"I can't," Gon said with a sad look on his face.

The crowd that was listening seemed to go back to the idea of joining the Equalist. In their eyes, even if one bender was kind, it didn't mean the rest were.

Amon smiled when seeing this. He had won.

"There are other ways to protect yourself," Gon said, "Amon and I used it when we were fighting against the martial arts. Sokka used it to fight alongside the avatar. Even villains like Ty lee and Zaheer used it to fight against benders."

The crowd looked pleased with hearing about it.

"And, who will train them to protect themselves?" Amon inquired.

"You or even me," Gon said, "We are both great fighters and could teach them self defense and ways to protect themselves."

"Will you teach us, Amon?" The crowd asked, looking at the man pleadingly.

Amon is beyond pissed at how his meeting turned out. He planned to garner more people to give his organization more strength but ended up forced into the position of training a hundred or so non-benders.

He wanted to gain true equality, not the illusion of it. He knew that some would join, but it wasn't enough.

"I will train you guys," Amon said, "Meet here every day at five pm to train. You guys can leave now."

The crowd left, and Gon followed.

Amon watched as the crowd left, waiting for everyone to go before calling one of his equalist subordinates.

"He might be a danger to our plans of true equality," Amon said.

"I know, sir," The subordinate said.

"Send some of our best men after him. He is good," Amon said.

Amon was truly surprised by the boys fighting capabilities. The boy and him together had been able to fight off multiple benders, and the scariest part was that the boy did not use his bending. When he was at that age, he couldn't do that. He hoped that his people could take care of him before he could become more of a threat than he already was.

An unknowing Gon was walking when he heard a man shout, "I can't believe it, this is a show for the ages. The avatar's debut in pro-bending just ended."

"Korra, what have you got yourself into now," Gon sighed, deciding to go to the pro-bending arena.

He walked to the pro-bending arena, and as soon as he got there, he saw Korra come out with two guys. She was smiling and laughing.

"Did you see the way hit that guy with the water," Korra said laughing.

"We all saw that," Mako said, annoyed at Korra's boasting.

Korra looked forward and saw Gon.

She quickly said, "Hey Gon, I guess you heard the news. Please don't tell Tenzin. Oh yeah, I forgot to say, this is Mako and Bolin."

"Oh, so the brooding type and innocent type," Gon joked.

"Hey!!!," Bolin shouted.

"I am just joking," Gon said, laughing.

Suddenly out of nowhere, a dagger came flying out of nowhere in the direction of Gon.

"Gon, watch out!!!" Korra shouted.

Gon hearing Korra's warning ducked before the blade could hit him.

Gon turned to see who had attempted to assassinate him and saw two people clad in equalist clothing.

"Why did you attack me?" Gon asked.

"Amon sent us. He said you were a threat," The Equalists said.

"Gon, what the hell are they talking about?" Korra asked.

"I may or may not have gone to an equalist meeting and convinced people not to become equalist," Gon said.

"Why didn't you take me with you?" Korra asked.

"Well, you were training so..." Gon said, "Let us talk about this later. Right now, we have to focus on this fight."

Gon attacked the first equalist using the fire part of his martial arts. It was a quick and destructive style made for attacking but not defending. He punched his attacker in the stomach and then hit the man's face causing the man to faint from the pain.

The second man attacked him with a flying kick, but Gon dodged, switching to the wind stance. The equalist started to use a barrage of attacks, but Gon dodged all of them, moving like the wind. He waits for the man to tire out and then became a tornado hit all the man's pressure points until he fell to the ground.

Mako and Bolin, who were watching the fight, were in awe at the guy's skills. They weren't sure that they could beat those two so flawlessly with their bending.

"What are we going to do?" Korra asked.
