13 First Day In Republic City

(One day later in Republic City)

"We are finally here," Korra tiredly said.

There had been a storm yesterday, and she couldn't get any sleep. Naga was whimpering like a little kid, and she and Gon also had to focus on stopping the waves from destroying their boat. It was a terrible night.

"Let us say that I won't go sailing for a while," Gon said, looking terrible.

He was very queasy and wanted to relax.

"We should probably go straight to the Air temple, but... " Korra said with pleading eyes, "I want to look around. Can we go and see the sights?"

Gon was about to say no, but when looking into Korra's eyes, he faltered.

"Fine, but we will only go to the park," Gon said.

"Fiiiiiiiiiine," Kora huffed, obviously annoyed.

They walked in the direction of the park, and once they arrived, they saw one of the beauties of the city. A beautiful, well laid out Park that had many places to visit. There was even a monument of Avatar Aang.

When Gon looked at it, he felt reverence. The statue showed what a runaway child could do given enough time. Although the person in question was also the Avatar, it did not matter. There were so many Avatars who had failed in their duty. The fact that a kid united so many nations to fight Ozai was incredible in more ways than one. Gon strived to be at this man's strength because of his power. He could protect the ones he cared about like Korra.

Korra felt something different. Aang was the person she strived to beat. Ever since she was young, she got told that she was the Avatar and so would always get compared to Aang her previous incarnate. Korra wanted to show everyone that she was his equal, that she could do it, that she was the Avatar.

As they were both gazing at the statue, Korra and Gon heard a noise that displeased them.

They turned and saw a man on a stage.

"Join the Equalists group," A man said, "Those uptight benders have been giving us low-class jobs for a while now, and we need help to stop them. Join us, and you get to be one of the people who destroy bending."

Korra was about to walk up there and angrily shout at the man when Gon stopped her.

"Korra stop," Gon said, "Shouting at these people won't help, only logic will."

Gon walked up to the stage and started to speak.

"I know that you've gotten mistreated for something that is out of your control. You have suffered, and this can't get changed as the past can't, but don't join this group. I beg you," Gon said pleadingly.

The equalist on the stage said, "See this, A bender trying to tell us what to do. Join the equalists."

"Equalists, Equalist, Equalist!!!" Many people in the crowd started to chant.

"Think about your kids and grandkids," Gon said.

"What about our kids?" A non-bender asked.

"What if you or someone in your family has a child or grandchild that is a bender? What will you do then, persecute them or protect them?" Gon asked.

"Protect them, of course," Another non-bender shouted.

"Thinking of the future, all of you will probably have family that can bend, and I pray that you don't kill them," Gon said.

"My child is a bender," One of the people in the crowd said.

"Mine too, let us leave," Another one said.

The crowd started to disperse.

Korra looked at Gon in awe. She never knew he could give a speech like that. He always seemed so carefree.

"Wow," Korra said, "Let us go look for the Air bending temple."

As they were riding on Naga towards the general direction of the Air temple, Gon and Korra saw this older man getting bullied by some gang thugs.

They quickly went there to step in.

"Hey, leave him alone," Korra shouted.

"What are you going to do, Waterbend?" One of the gangsters said.

"I am," Korra shouted as she flung a large amount of water, froze it, and then kneed the ice breaking it on his head and effectively giving him a concussion. The next guy attempted to attack, but Gon stepped in. Shot a bright fireball at the man's head burning him a bit and also making faint from the pain. The last guy tried to run, but Korra quickly used an earth stomp to hit flying into the air. He too fainted.

Korra and Gon heard sirens and the sound of moving wires. They saw men in police uniforms arrest the three thugs and then look at them.

"You are under arrest," A policeman said.

"But, we did nothing wrong," Korra said.

"Destruction of property and more charges have gotten brought up," The policeman replied.

"But we were only helping the man over there," Korra said as she pointed in the man's direction.

"Doesn't matter you are coming with us," The policeman said as he threw the metal wire at them, attempting to arrest them.

Korra blocked the attack by putting an ice wall up and then started to ride away with Gon on Naga's back.

The attacks kept coming but were blocked and retaliated by Korra, who would use ice whips to fling the policemen away and ice constructs to bash into the policemen.

One lucky policeman threw his wire at Korra and managed to capture her.

As soon as she got caught, Gon looked back and shouted, "Korra!!!"

Memories of the times Korra was taken away from him resurfaced, and he got angry. He would never allow Korra to get carried away from him again. They were like family, and family always helped one another.

Korra ran back, and immediately he did, he got caught by one of the wires.

The policemen did not know this, but they had just messed up. Gon didn't like getting chained. In his past life, he was always in a locked room. It had caused him to get triggered every time he was trapped.

The fire started to sprout all over his body, and the metal wire started to melt. The police were afraid of what they had just seen. They took a step back and quickly called their chief.

As soon as the chain melted, Gon calmed down.

He looked at the police officers and said, "I will go with you. Just don't chain me up."

"Yes, sir," The policemen hurriedly said.

(Police Station)

"Who are you," Chief of police Lin Beifong asked.

"She is the Avatar, and I am Gon," Gon said.

"I thought the Avatar was in the Water nation," Lin Beifong said.

"Na, I have been for years now," Korra said.

"You can't arrest us," Gon said.

"Oh, because you are the Avatar's fr-," Lin Beifong said.

"Let me cut you off there. First of all, we didn't do that much damage, your soldiers did. Second of all, we have enough money to pay even if we did. You can't keep us here," Gon said with a smirk on his face.

"Fine, you can leave..." Lin Beifong said, "With Tenzin."

Before this interview, Lin had called Tenzin to take the Avatar problem off her hands, thinking that they would go back to the Water nation. How wrong she was.

"Thanks, I was on my way there to learn from him," Korra smiled.

"Oh, and by the way, we are staying," Gon smirked, getting the hint.

Lin just dreaded.

Korra and Gon looked at Tenzin and saw his angered face.

"Where have you been? The White Lotus has been looking for you for two years," Tenzin said.
