3 Chapter 3 - Beast Soul & Ordinary Gene Points

Within a cavernous area, Han Sen could see numerous black beetles that were far from being of a common size. These creatures seemed to have been injected with something powerful and were almost the size of two hand palms. They were also a mix of lobster, crab, and beetle, making them even stranger.

Walking up slowly and careful to the creature he heard was the easiest in the entire First Sanctuary, he pulled his combat knife from his waist and stabbed it at its weak point, between the joints. Despite feeling great resistance, he skillfully used his strength to cut to the maximum depth. Instant death.

"How easy, right?" Han Sen looked at the dead beetle and found it even too easy. The stories out there about the Sanctuary of God were always the worst possible. Now that he entered and killed the first creature, it wasn't that bad.

But he ignored that in his past life he was a powerful cultivator, making the most of every movement. That's why, even though his strength is weak now, he was able to extract the most out of it to defeat the beetle. Besides, he hit its weak point, so it was 1+1.

"Visual pollution again." Looking at the quite flashy message, Han Sen remembered that he should earn those points and could improve everything he has. Always very cool.

As soon as he opened the beetle and was about to eat its meat, a type of black energy came out of the beetle's body and entered the space between his eyebrows. With a strange feeling, he remembered the message from the common system of the Sanctuary world, and saw that he had really gained that guy's Beast Soul.

"In the book, no matter how much he tried, those guys didn't give any Beast Soul. Why are they giving now?" Han Sen analyzed for a while and couldn't come to a conclusion. It was never explained very well whether it was a matter of luck or if there was something more in the subject that influenced. The best guess he could give is that the fact that his soul is much more powerful than the common one somehow influences this whole thing.

Looking around in his own system, he soon noticed that there was something new there, a tab called Beast Soul. He opened it without hesitation.

Thinking of using this armor, a type of black liquid metal emerged from his body and began to cover the clothes he was wearing. Forming a small breastplate and some protections on the elbows, knees, thighs, and forearms, it seemed like he was wearing a small armor. A lightweight armor, to be more precise.

"It's nothing compared to the description of the Sacred Blood version. Well, I should have expected that, right?" Feeling the protection the new armor had given him, even shielding him from his knife, Han Sen remembered he had an upgrade system. "Let's see how you turned out."

Studying what he was seeing, he understood that there were two possible improvements. One for the Beast Soul tier, and another for its level. Both will serve to strengthen the creature to the maximum possible. Since he didn't have enough EXP, he couldn't test how far the limits were.

"I wonder why I have to improve the Beast Soul to Ordinary tier if it's already at that tier... Well, whatever. Let's keep going!" Han Sen realized that he had spent too much time just analyzing these things and forgot to move forward and eat the meat.

Trying that raw meat, promising to one day bring some kind of material to make a fire, Han Sen found himself growing more powerful and eager to go further.

"Well, I think that's enough for now." Han Sen already felt extremely full, having to use some ancient techniques to fit more food in his belly.

Around him, everywhere could be looked, there were several beetle corpses, some eaten and some not. He obviously killed much more than he ate, since he gained EXP points for it. Even with all the effort, he saw that he wouldn't gain anything else by eating the flesh of these creatures. His body was stronger and needed a more high genetic incentive.

And besides his genetic point gains, even more surprising were the countless Beast Souls he gained. Without exception, every creature he killed left a Beast Soul!

What he first thought was pure luck, was now certain that something was wrong. There was no way someone could gain so many Beast Souls from a single creature. And he killed DOZENS of beetles today. One could only imagine the amount of souls that were inside his Sea of Souls.

"I have enough souls to give and sell to anyone who wants them. I need to find a way to get rid of all of this." Han Sen was already planning how he would sell these Beast Souls.

Although they were only at the Ordinary tier, not everyone was rich enough to buy better Beast Souls, or even buy an alloy weapon that was as good as an ordinary Beast Soul. Since he had several, he could just as well sell them on the Black Market.

Exiting that cavernous area, Han Sen ran to the Steel Armor Shelter with even greater speed than he had left. Even though it was weak, the ability to elevate his physique was still there. It was as if he had exercised for a long time.

Spending some time at the Local Market, he understood how the buying and selling of goods worked. The people selling meat there were looking for something more valuable in exchange, whatever it may be.

Approaching a vendor, he saw that there was a greater variety of meats from ordinary creatures. They were not many, since one person could not do much. The monopoly on the meat market was possibly consumed within the powerful Groups of the shelter. Especially Ordinary Meat, which is cheap and abundant.

"Hey boss, good afternoon! How much is a kilo of ordinary meat?" Han Sen gave his friendliest smile to the vendor, who approached him calmly. Seeing the Beast Soul armor in Han Sen, the man became a bit interested.

"Good afternoon! It costs Ḻ$1000 per kilogram. I also accept other meats, but only of superior quality." The seller only paid attention to Han Sen, since there was no one else around.

"Unfortunately, I didn't bring any money and today is my first day," Han Sen apologized, but then something appeared in his hand. It was a ball of black clouds, as if it were something ethereal. "But can I exchange it for an Ordinary Beast Soul?"

"You! Are you sure you want to trade for this??" The seller looked at the ball of black clouds and his eyes lit up. Having made a mistake in the past, he was unable to join any support group. He could only hunt alone, like most lone wolves out there. Having maximized his ordinary genetic points, he was looking for something to help him hunt primitive beasts.

"I think I have more luck than expected. When I was fighting the black beetles, two beast souls fell. There's no need to have two armors, right?" Han Sen saw that he had already gotten the attention of the seller. Now, it was just a matter of executing a very well-done negotiation and he could earn some more genetic points.

"Sure, sure. The market price for an ordinary Beast Soul varies from tens of thousands to a maximum of one hundred thousand dollars. I'll give you 30kg of meat, which is almost my entire stock." The man felt even more excited when he saw that it was indeed an armor. He was afraid it might be another type of Beast Soul, which would make it useless in helping him achieve his goals.

"Give me your entire stock and I'll give you the Beast Soul right now. As a type of armor, it will protect you well. Not even my knife could scratch it, so it will give you good protection when you go out hunting." Everyone knew that the black beetle was only easy to kill because of its obvious weak points. But if it wasn't for that and someone tried to cut its shell, only a Mutant Beast Soul could break it without getting ruined in the process.

Taking some time to think, the seller saw that it didn't make sense to disagree. Getting what he wanted, all this meat wouldn't serve for anything other than giving some extra money. He was more interested in going back to hunting than staying here selling things.

"Done then! You can take everything!" The seller took the beast soul from Han Sen's hand and wrapped all the meat he had in a cloth, a total of 50kg of five different ordinary creatures, and handed it over to his buyer.

"Thank you, boss! Good luck on your hunt!" Han Sen thanked the man and put the bag on his back. 50Kg didn't weigh much, especially after being improved by genetic points.

"Good luck to you too!" The seller had nothing else to do there and went in another direction. His impression of Han Sen was that he was too nice of a guy.

Now locked inside his room, Han Sen placed the meat bag on the floor and took off all his clothes. He started stretching, as if preparing for something exhausting.

"I couldn't do this outside, but I think it's fine here. It's been a while since I've used this technique!" Han Sen searched his memories for a bit and soon found what he was looking for.

A smile spread across his face as he opened the meat bag and prepared for the feast.
