1 Chapter 1

drip drip drip …

That was the only sound echoing in the empty house. Even though there were barely any items in the home, it still looked messy. The kitchen reeked of an awful scent from the unwashed plates and the opened garbage. However, despite the dark and disgusting atmosphere, there was a kid, under the covers of his bed, having the time of his life scrolling through his new novel.

Lying there for 3 days straight, The little 12 years old boy's body looked like it was glued onto the bed from how he sank deeply into the bed, creating a big dent. His body hurted so much from the constant lying on the twin bed. Beside his age, each time he turned to his side, cracking of bone would be heard.

His parents went on a business trip again 2 month ago, and forgot to give him any money; and when he tried to call them they wouldn't answer the phone.

Thus when he ran out of food, days ago, he wrapped himself around his blanket and stayed in his bed reading fantasy novels to escape the growing hunger.

This wasn't his first time his parents left him like this. They even forgot to feed him when they were at home too. But at least they filled the fridge up with food, so he could get himself something. However, now there wasn't even a bottle of water for him to drink.

The more he read, the more he felt his body getting hotter. It bothered him so much as he couldn't read peacefully with his body feeling like he was submerged in a sea of fire. Soon he started to experience extreme dizziness as if there was a big lump of damped cotton stuffed into his head, making his mind heavy. His eyes unfocused more and more frequently.

He tried to shake this sudden feeling off, in order to go back to his happy place, his library of web stories and books. To him, they were the only thing that could bring comfort that no medicine or person could ever could.

However, as hard as he started to go back to reading, his body already started its shutting down process. His heart was pounding faster and faster to stop it but unfortunately it didn't work. The boy took his late breath, staring at his phone with the words of a father telling his daughter, the female protagonist, "no amount of stars in the galaxy could ever amount to how much I love you".

' haha how nice would it be to hear that too', the little boy thought.
