1 Freedom

"You thought you could escape from us? You're our most prized product; earning us an unimaginable amount of money! But since you decided to run away, I guess I have no other choice but to kill you, as well as that old hag over there." The ragged voice of a middle-aged man rang out through the room.

Sun sat there, with his hands out, shielding his mistress from the man. The man was holding a gun and he aimed it at Sun and his mistress, threatening to kill them.

"I won't let you do that! My mistress saved my life, I won't allow you to ruin it again!" Sun said confidently with piercing eyes.

"So what? You've hopped from one hotbed to another! Don't you know who your little mistress is? Not only is she a crazy nympho-manic, but she's one of us human traffickers! And yet you choose to be her little dog?" The middle-aged man cackled as he cocked the pistol back.

Sun, who was a handsome young man, who, unfortunately, was put through more than any person should endure. He had natural black hair that shaded into dark purple at the tips and his skin was fair white, as well as pure black eyes.

Sun's mistress was attracted by this and decided to rescue him and take him in. Since then, he lived in her mansion, as what one would call a pet.

"Still! She's treated me better than any of you have! I'm never going back to that life again, so either you kill me or leave!" Sun shouted with a determined gaze. His pupils contracted when he heard the sound of a gun abruptly being shot.

The lips of the middle-aged man curved into a grin as he spoke a few words.

"Goodbye then."

Two shots were fired, one each killing both Sun and his mistress; clean head shots to the both of their heads...

"U-Ugh..."

...

"Where am I?" Sun's quiet voice echoed throughout the void-less expanse of what he deemed pure darkness. He couldn't feel his body, only talk and think. He tried to look around, but all he saw was darkness.

Suddenly though, he saw a faint orb of light next to him.

"?! No! I can't die, I have too much to lo-" The voice of a woman who seemed to be in her mid 30s rang out across the expanse, shocking Sun greatly.

If he had eyes, they'd contract.

"Mistress is that you?" He hastily asked, hoping that she'd say yes.

"...Yes. Where are we? Did I truly die?" Sun's mistress asked numerous questions, though no directed towards Sun. She was still in great shock and didn't know whether or not she was truly dead; Sun knew though.

He watched the bullets fly into both his and his mistress's brain. The only question he had was where was he?

Sun was rather resolute on dying and didn't care much because of all he's been through. the only thing he truly cared about was his mistress's safety.

"M-Mistress. We both died... As for where we are? I don't know..."

"A-Are you sure?" She frantically asked. Sun could tell she was losing more of sanity by the minute. He never thought this was how it was for people who died.

Death wasn't pleasant at all; before or after.

Suddenly, a bright white light enveloped both Sun and his mistress and their thought processes were interrupted; they couldn't talk either. The light clouded their entire view until they both lost consciousness...

...

Inside of a small cave in another world...

[Day 1]

"Wha-"

"Huh?"

Two voices spoke at the same time, both in surprise; one was Sun and the other his mistress.

As he opened his eyes, he immediately realized that something was off. His surroundings were dark and his body felt unnatural, or not his own.

He looked around for answers, only to scare himself half to death.

"AAH! W-What the hell?!" He shrieked the moment he laid eyes on his arms/wings. He saw a pair of dark blue wings connected to a pair of arms with fierce claws. He saw a pair of tiny legs and feet, as well as claws that reminded him of a dragon.

He then realized that his body was irregularly bent, like a person trying to imitate a 4-legged animal, but doing it impressively well.

Almost too impressively well.

"Wh- AAH! What is this?! My body! My beautiful body, what's happened to it?!" Sun's mistress's voice pierced his ears and made him want to cover them. He raised his hand and watched as his right wing lifted up and revealed a hand.

His pupils shrank and fear began to set it.

"N-No- T-This isn't real! T-This isn't real!" Both of them began to freak out in unison when they finally realized the truth of their new reality. Both of them were no longer human, in fact, they didn't even reincarnate as ordinary animals.

They reincarnated as dragons.

Shadow dragons to be specific.

After who knows how long of panicking, they stopped and looked at each other silently for a long time before Sun's mistress finally broke the silence.

"Who are you? You sound like my Sun, but you don't look like him..." Her tone was cautious and wary and her gaze inspected Sun's entire body.

"M-Mistress, it's me! I'm Sun!" Sun quickly explained to his mistress that he was indeed himself, just in a different body.

"Since you claim to be Sun, what's my name?" She as she kept her distance from Sun, just in case he was a fraud and had ill-intentions.

"M-Mistress, you said I'm not allowed to call you by your re-"

"Enough of that, what's my name? If you truly know it, then I'll excuse it just this once." She interrupted and said with a piercing gaze. Sun felt small shivers go down his spine when he saw that look.

Her serious look.

"M-...M-Marianne..." Sun felt as if he was committing a crime when he spoke. He was never allowed to say his mistress's name, for his and her safety combined.

He watched hopefully as her gaze softened and she let down her guard.

"...Okay. You're the only one I've told my real name to. Since I know you're my Sun, do you know what's happened to us?" Sun was no encyclopedia, but he had a tad more knowledge than the average person.

Not that any of it mattered now, considering they were in another world now.

"My guess is that we died and were reincarnated...As animals...Probably dragons..." Sun's voice shrank the more he spoke. Every word made him sink more and more into a pit of despair as reality truly sank in.

Just as he was waiting for Marianne's response, he jolted upon hearing a different voice and seeing a screen appear in front of him.

Marianne jumped like Sun as well, both confused and shocked at the appearance of a new, robotic, voice. It entered her ears and only hers.

She wondered if Sun had heard it as well.

"Sun...did you hear that voice just now? It sounded like a robot and spoke of a system..." Marianne inquired.

"I heard it too. After piecing things together, I've come to a conclusion." Sun said solemnly.

"And what is that?" Marianne prodded.

"It's that we've been reincarnated into a world with monsters in it. Not only human monsters this time around, but animal monsters such as ourselves... I suggest we follow the instructions given by the voice." Sun quickly explained.

Marianne's face turned a few shades paler upon hearing such news. She didn't want to believe it no matter how hardcore the evidence was.

"Profile." Sun called out.

Sun revealed a complicated expression as he observed the information on his profile screen. His face quickly turned grim when he discovered what his race was; a shadow dragon.

He didn't know how strong ordinary creatures in the world were, but he immediately knew he needed strength to keep himself and Marianne safe.

"Shadow...dragon?" Marianne was confused and didn't know much about fantasy subjects. Sun had to but in and guide her through the various information on her profile screen to help her better understand...
