CHAPTER START---

---1 year since meeting Naruto...

At the eastern edge of Konoha, a group of young men can be seen playing in, and on a river. The small stream was currently occupied by the heirs to many on Konoha's clans. Choji Akimichi sat under a tree on the shore eating chips as Shikamaru Nara lay in the shade of the tree cloud watching.

In the stream wearing only their shorts, Naruto Uzumaki and Kiba Inuzuka can be seen splashing at each other. The strange sight however was the young child STANDING on top of the water as if it were a solid floor. Wearing a blindfold and his shorts alone he walks around on the surface of the slow-moving stream as if it were just another day for him.

"You're supposed to be IN the water!" Naruto says as he tugs at Jin's feet. "Quit training for once and have some fun!"

With a light chuckle as he looked down at the boy who couldn't even get his legs to raise off the surface of the water, he couldn't help but smile. "If you could do this too you'd be up here Naruto, but, you're right. Hey, Kiba I brought some of those wafers you like, I suggest you get to them before Choji finishes his current pack of chips" Jin finishes with a smile as he sees Choji on his last pack of chips.

"Awe man you're the best Jin, thanks!" Kiba excitedly yells out as he races to the shore to get his snack.

Unlike their friends, Naruto and Jin had nobody to teach them as they weren't from any clan, and their friends were the clan heirs so of course, they had private tutors. To each of them, it appeared as if Jin wanted to be a ninja badly and was training constantly, while they could relax he had to train just to catch up to their early start. On the other hand, Naruto completely ignored Jin's advice and decided to slack off every day as any reasonable child would. Over the past year, they have all grown quite close to each other even with the differences in status.

As Jin dropped into the water and splashed around with Naruto another conversation was taking place on the shore.

"Almost an hour," Shikamaru says to his friends on the shore.

"What?" Kiba questions as he delves into Jin's backpack searching for his favorite snack.

"He was standing there for almost an hour, can any of you do that?"

"I can't even stick a leaf yet," Choji says with a small voice.

"I'm not that much better" Kiba adds.

"He's getting ahead of us again, something doesn't add up here." Shikamaru finally says.

"Nah you're just jealous, he trains all day every day, if he wasn't ahead of us something would be wrong, I guess he wants to make up for his handicap. But man talk about overdoing it haha." Kiba jokes with his friends.

"Light sensitivity, clearly it doesn't slow him down much, whatever," Shikamaru says as he lays back down to cloud watch.

---Nara House, Later that night...

Shikamaru sat at the dinner table opposite his dad, his mom at the counter preparing the food.

"Dad, how long does it take to learn water walking?" Completely out of the blue Shikamaru asks this question to his father.

"After you reach genin it shouldn't take long, if you want to do that now, sorry son but you don't have the volume or control of chakra for that," the older man says to his son.

"No I don't want to spend all my time training like Jin," Shikamaru says, immediately shutting down the idea of extra training.

"Like Jin?" His father asks, of course, the smartest man in the leaf wouldn't miss such an obvious tell.

"My friend with the blindfold, he's been water walking for a while. Today he did it for an hour. I was just curious how far away he is from the rest of us," the young boy answered honestly to his father's question.

"Hmmm, he supposed to be an orphan, even if he is talented he doesn't have anyone teaching him. That's rather interesting." Thanks for telling me about this.

"Uh, I-Is he going to get in trouble?" Shikamaru asked, now a bit worried he might have gotten his friend in trouble.

"No no, the Hokage won't do anything to him. Just he seems to be quite a genius is all. Don't worry about it, let's eat." The man says as his wife brings the dishes to the table.

---Hokage's office, The following day...

"I'll assign some ANBU on it right away, this really is strange," the 3rd Hokage said as he puffed his pipe.

Standing on the other side of his desk is Jonin commander Shikaku Nara who has just reported Jin's development.

"As long as whoever is teaching him is from the village I think it should be fine, if he is self-thought what should we do Lord Hokage?" Shikaku asked.

Sigh, "Normally someone like that would fall to Danzo, but he's too close to Naruto already. As long as whatever he's doing doesn't compromise the safety of the village just ignore him,"

As the 3rd Hokage finished speaking he waved his hands and an ANBU leaped away from wherever he was hidden in the direction of the Orphanage.

---1 Week Later, At the edges of Konoha at a quiet clearing.

Jin can be seen practicing his striking on the bark of a tree. His fists being bruised more and more yet he keeps punching and kicking ever so often. His brows furrowed and clearly in a bad mood.

The reason for his bad mood was quite simple, for the past week he has been sensing people always watching him from the shadows, he assumed they are ANBU observing his training for some reason. For this reason, he is unable to practice his Rinnegan techniques and has to focus on chakra control and nature transformations.

Finally having enough of the ANBU presence stalling his Rinnegan training Jin decides to make a bold move. Walking to the edge of the clearing directly toward the direction of the ANBU assigned to him today he stops barely outside the treeline before calling out.

"IF YOU'RE GONNA WATCH, GIVE ME A KUNAI SO I CAN PRACTICE WITH IT!"

He shouted at the top of his lungs. As a child, he is unable to purchase kunai or weapons of any kind without a ninja license or academy pass.

His words caused the ANBU to freeze, she was unsure of what to do, never did she think he would find her. 'No it can't be, he's just a kid right. He's 5,' she thinks to herself as she slowly begins to move backward. As she moves 10 ft he calls out again.

"WHY'RE YOU LEAVING LADY," this time identifying her sex as well as her change in position. Now she truly is startled. Her entire body freezing and she checks her surrounding for more targets, she finds she is alone with Jin. As she decides what to do her purple hair blows a bit in the wind before she simply walks out of the treeline, curious as to what the hell is wrong with this kid.

"You're a Sensor?" The woman questions, bending protocol to a great degree, but this case wasn't exactly normal anyway.

"Or you're bad at hiding, purple hair after all," he jokes with the Anbu. As he is met with dead silence he decides to change his approach. "Yes I'm a sensor, why've you guys been following me this week, did I do something wrong?" he asks innocently.

"Who has been teaching you?" she cuts straight to the point.

'Hmmm, I really didn't consider this. I'm not in the academy yet and don't have parents to blame,' he thinks as he immediately answers. "I'm a sensor, I touch the water and feel how the chakra needs to flow for me to stand on it, I feel chakra and just do as it needs," he says in what he hopes is a convincing voice.

"Is that the final answer?" she asks once, trying to get him to change his story.

"Yeah so you gonna stop bugging me or give me a kunai so I can start target practice, I wanna be the best at the academy," he says impatiently.

Responding to his request the ANBU throws a kunai just behind him, as he turns to look at the weapon she suddenly disappears from his sensing range completely.

"Huh, thanks," he says out loud in a cool voice.

'HOLY FUCK I JUST SPOKE TO A JONIN!' his mind races as he tries to comprehend how his stupid plan not only worked but didn't get him killed.

---Moments later, Hokage's Office...

The purple-haired Anbu appears knelt before the 3rd Hokage.A mountain of paperwork on his desk. He gladly takes a break to hear her report.

"Report"

"He found me,"

"What?"

"Jin Satsujin is a sensor shinobi, he claimed that's how he taught himself chakra control exercises and figured out how to do nature transformation exercises on his own, although those have not been successful as of yet,"

"When did he find you?"

"He always knew I believe."

"His heightened chakra sense must have manifested because of his light sensitivity in his eyes. One sense suffers while another is boosted of course, but this is ridiculous. Sensing and feeling the change and flow needed to complete these exercises unprompted. This information stays between us, nobody must ever know of this, Dismissed!" the Hokage commands the young woman who disappears in a flicker.

'If only he weren't your first friend Naruto. I should make sure my old friend doesn't notice him.' Hiruzen laments at what could have been one of Konoha's newest talent, with the proper training.
