21 Chapter 21: Core matches beigin

James, alongside the others walked once again up onto the seating area at the arena. They all sat next to each other in a good spot where they could see easily sense they got here earlier than most people. As people filled in the rows of seats, the cameras turned on and the lighting brightened in the arena as it darkened over the viewer's area.

The hosts for the broadcast started talking while students took their seats all preparing themselves for what would follow. The real matches, ones that could determine their future and their status in the foreseeable future. As the students had all taken their spots alongside their equipment the host's voice sounded through ought the huge room.

"Well students, today is your day to prove yourself! Not only to the school but also the whole world what you are capable of! let the best shine to the top! and your futures be bright!"

As their speech ended, a large screen above the arena showed an image of a bracket for the tournament. All the students looked at the screen in eagerness and nervous for their time in the matches. As they stared up at the screen James was first up. As he saw this he sighed as he didn't feel like going in this early on but whatever.

Getting up and went down into the arena and waited for his opponent. As he stood there was something about lvls that didn't make 100% sense to him. How come people at the same lvl could have very different stats. It didn't make a lot of sense. He's met some people at his school who's stats seamed way bellow their lvl or some above. As he contemplated this his opponent stepped down into the arena. He put this thought away for the moment and decided to focus on this first.

He turned facing the man in front of him who held a sword. This didn't surprise him much. As a lot of people used weapons similar to swords in the current times due to the efficiency against most things. Of course they had plenty of flaws too, but so did a lot of things. Pulling out one of his katanas, he readied himself for the fight. The guy charged at him with his sword swinging towards James. Raising the blade and stepping towards him, James slid the sword off his katana away from himself and swinging his blade at him. The other student jumped back just barely in time to dodge the incoming blade.

As they continued to dash around and clash with each other, James slowly put more and more strength into the fight. The spectators watched awe as they saw to 17yr old boys dashing around at incredible speeds with sparks from the metal clashing against each other over and over at such high speeds. As the world watched this battle with more attention, everyone knew this was the start of a new era. Where humans weren't only reliant on technology as strength. Although the world had no clue to what end the levels extended or boundaries of the systems, whether or not humanity were alone gifted such a chance or all life. But one thing stood clear in all watcher's minds, these will be very interesting times for humanity.

James rushed forwards, sweeping his legs knocking the other student off the ground quickly following up and pinning the kid with his sword. Everyone watched in silence before erupting into applause and excitement. Standing up and sheathing his sword he helped the kid up and told him that he did well before going up and sitting back in the spectator area with the rest. As he sat down the next to people went up for the match.

The group all congratulated him on his win and complimented him on his performance. James smiled and thanked them for the praise while a bit embarrassed. After a lil, they went back to paying attention to the new match while James on the other hand was more focused on other things. He had a lot that he slowly started to wonder about the world. In the pas the world was very mysterious, and humanity only knew a fraction about the universe. Now James had added even more upon the mystery. So many things that they hadn't discovered yet could be different. But not only that but the systems themselves, They seemed to be for the most part conscious and individual personalities. How did that work? Did they have their own bodies? Did they exist somewhere else beforehand? What did levels really mean? So man questions pestered him, and he could only come up with theories on his own about it. He decided it would be best to ask Nessie about it. Although he didn't know how much she could tell him it was better than sitting here doing nothing.

'Hey Nessie?'

*Yea? what's up.*

'Do you have a moment'

*Sure,*

'There's a lot of questions I've been thinking bout'

*Well, I can try to answer what I can,*

'The first question, do you know what levels really mean? or represent?'

*Hm, well yes I know a way of explaining it*

'?'

*giggles, ok well let's see, levels are in a way a form of...defining I guess*

"Care to elaborate?"

*Well, let's say theirs, two people, one is level 1 and the other is level 2. You could also say that they are a better creature then level 1*

'So levels are more of a classification than just stats?'

*Yes and no, one's stats would play a part in their level. The reason for people having different stats at different levels can be a few things. This can include an individual's talent, basic status, bloodlines, races, Etc. This means a person's requirements to evolve to the next level is not the same as their stats reaching a certain number. Although 99% of the time you can guarantee a higher level will mean higher stats.*

'So If someone of a different race, or bloodline even if lower level could theoretically have better stats'

*correct, among other things*

'I see...'
