16 Sister-In-Law?!

"Are you okay?"

Hearing Zach's familiar voice and feeling the familiar hug, Eunice felt an indescribable sense of repulsion. If it was before her rebirth, she would gladly melt in those arms. But now not only her body but even her soul is rejecting his touch. Eunice immediately break free and distance herself from Zach the moment she regain her footing.

"Yes, I'm ok. Thank you CEO Lu." Eunice politely said with a small smile. Her attitude couldn't get anymore distant.

In mere five seconds Zach emotions went on a roller coaster ride. The moment Eunice landed on his arms his heart almost leapt out of his chest. It was the first time they were so close together. He wished he could freeze the time at that moment and have his fill of her scent and softness.

The next moment he felt like he was doused with freezing cold water as Eunice nonchalantly distanced herself. He didn't even detect any ripple of emotions in her polite demeanor. It seems like he has no charm in her eyes. In fact, her actions implies that she is drawing a line between them. He can't help but be disappointed. Ever since the day they met again, at least for him this is not their first meeting, his self esteem suffered a blow.

He is even starting to doubt if the compliment about him being outstandingly handsome is just credited to his wealth.

On the other side, Denise is starting to feel uneasy with Zach's arrival. After all he is Eugene's close friend. It won't be surprising if he knows whether Eugene is single or not. Denise just hopes that Zach actually doesn't know about Eugene's relationship status although the probability is low.

When Zach Lu arrived, the business men and women who didn't have any interest in Eunice and Denise's matters inevitably started to pay attention. But their goal is not the gossip. They are only waiting for a chance to approach him. However, seeing that he is actually stepping in between the two women's matters, they tactfully waited on the side. This increased the audience and thus increased more pressure on Denise.

Eunice also noticed the increase of people paying attention to hers and Denise's conflict. Well, she has nothing to worry about since she is innocent. In fact she is looking forward to humiliating Denise is a much larger crowd. Still it won't be enough to vent her hatred towards Denise. After all she was fooled and manipulated by her causing Eunice to question her own IQ.

"Baby!"

Suddenly an anxious voice broke the stalemate of the atmosphere caused by Zach's arrival. Everyone instinctive followed the source of the voice, only to see the male lead of the drama between the two women at the center of the commotion, Eugene Lin.

When the audience heard the intimate nickname Eugene uttered, they assumed that he was referring to Denise. After all she is the "fiancé". Only Denise went pale and gave a menacing glare towards Eunice. She is self aware enough to know that Eugene wasn't referring to her so she could only conclude that the so called "baby" is the hateful woman in front of her. If a glare could kill, Eunice would probably be dead a thousand times in Denise's glare.

Eunice on the other hand almost got choked by air hearing her brother's address. She's been repeating to Eugene that he should stop addressing her as baby. Be it in public or private in order to stop the habit. She argued that it's too childish and embarrassing now that she is an adult. It doesn't suit her as the heiress of a billion dollar business at all.

Beside her, Zach, Emily and Victor also felt the second hand embarrassment for Eunice hearing Eugene shouting the word "baby". They all knew that it is her nickname in her family but knowing didn't lessen their goosebumps.

Eugene immediately rushed out when one of the staff found him and told him that his companion is having a conflict with someone. Since he arrived at the venue with Eunice, he already assumed that she is the one in trouble so he didn't ask for any details before he rushed out of the backstage. When he saw her being surrounded by the crowd, his anxiousness got the better of him so he completely forgot Eunice's reminder.

"Baby, I heard someone is bullying you! Who is it?!" Eugene exclaimed the moment he arrived beside Eunice.

The crowd went wild seeing him approach Eunice worriedly instead of his so called fiancé. They all look at Denise in doubt. Everyone who praised her and congratulated her earlier were at a loss.

"I'm not getting bullied big brother. My sister-in-law is just introducing herself." Disregarding the embarrassing nickname, Eunice answered Eugene. There is no sarcasm can be heard in her tone. She is as calm as ever. But Zach, Emily and Victor who knew the truth knew that her words is mocking Denise.

This time, not only the onlookers, even Denise looked dumbfounded! All her anger and jealousy dissipated like smoke, only to be replace with regret and fluster.

"Wait, what did she call Eugene? Big brother? Is it what I think it is?"

"I heard Eugene does have a sister. The one who will inherit their company"

"Oh my! Is that her?! They don't look similar at all."

"What do you mean they don't look similar? Look closely. The more you look, the more you could see their resemblance."

"Indeed! There are a lot of siblings like that. Some even only look the same when they cried or laugh."

Denise started to panic. She wanted to salvage the situation and say that she was just joking but Eugene didn't give her a chance and directly sentenced her with his following words.

"Who is your sister-in-law? I'm your only brother. I don't even have a girlfriend. Much more a wife. Where did this sister-in-law came from?!" Eugene stated firmly.

"But she said..." Eunice continued, acting awkward and confused while looking at Denise.

"N-no! It's not like that!" Denise attempted to retort but clearly she doesn't have any excuse to save the situation even if she whack her brains out. She really regretted her impulsiveness. If only she tried to confirm the other party's identity first. If she's lucky she could even have gain a valuable ally in conquering Eugene. But unfortunately there is no medicine for regret.

With Eugene's answer, everyone finally realized that they were fooled. The looked at Denise with disappointment. Some even look at her with disdain and laugh mercilessly.

"In the end it's just a lie. Isn't she embarrassed?"

"I never actually believed it since the beginning."

"She even offended the sister. There is no way she would be able to enter the Lin family now."

The crowd started denouncing Denise for making a ruckus and lying. But there are still sympathetic remarks. Although those words hurt more that the mocking ones.

"Eugene, Eunice, you're here!"

A sweet female voice filled with pleasant surprise suddenly interrupted the tense atmosphere. Her voice is akin to a lullaby that was able to soothes the listener's heart. Only Eunice's heart felt cold.
