2 Birthday Outing

In a big beautiful amusement park in the middle of City M, a little girl happily runs around without any care in the world. Her smile was broad and beautiful but too bad nobody could see that beautiful smile because her face was partially covered.

Stephanie was so happy that her mum finally brought her to the amusement park for the first time she could recall. She ran around happily making sure not to run too far away from her mother and sulking sister. Her mum who often took her elder sister out whenever her sister threw a tantrum has never for once taken Stephanie out because she thinks little Stephanie is a disgrace. She always treats Stephanie badly except when her husband was around .

Victoria despised Stephanie. She was unhappy that Stephanie came with them to the amusement park. She vowed to get even with her.

Victoria and her wicked mother had deliberately told Stephanie in the bus to keep a safe distance from them when they got to the park. They both did this in fear that something might happen that will lead to the revelation of Stephanie's scarred face.

Little ignorant Stephanie was not aware of this fact. She was just so happy that her three days constant weeping had paid off. She was so naive to think her mum brought her to the park because she felt pity for her not knowing that her mum only followed her dad's instructions. She wouldn't have brought her to the park even though she had cried her eyes out had her dad not forced her to do what she did.

She and her sister surprisingly shared the same birthday, but her mum has never taken her out on her birthday. She always took Victoria who was the apple of her eyes out leaving her all alone at home. At age twelve, Victoria was very beautiful. Everyone adores her. All the boys in their school always flood around her. Asking her to give them the honour of being their boyfriend but Victoria was pompous. She always spoke rudely to them. "A beauty like me is only befitted for a handsome Prince not rascals like you," She had always said with pride.

Little Stephanie's heart was filled with so much joy as she ran about happily. She completely forgot about her flawed face. She would have assumed that she was born ugly had the memory of the day her sister deliberately poured a cup of hot water on her face was not still vivid in her memory. Although she was very little then, people's constant jeers did not make her forget that day. It was still fresh in her memory like it happened yesterday.

Since that fateful day her face was disfigured, life became hellish for her. She has always thought that death would have been a better option for her. Little Stephanie would have committed suicide when she was seven years old had her dad not dissuade her out of it. He was the only one in the world who treated her like a human being, not like some monster.

"Come sis let's ride on this, it looks fun," Stephanie shouted with excitement as she repeatedly waved at her sister and mother who acted as though they did not hear her loud scream. The excited Stephanie could not wait anymore for her sister so she rode on the carousel alone. With her red shawl on, the other kid did not find her weird. Some even smiled sweetly at her making her completely forget who she was. Enjoying her carousel ride, Stephanie did not feel her shawl slightly loosen. She was too excited to notice. She continued to ride to her heart's content.

Everything in the amusement park felt so fascinating to her. She stared at the different rides people enter with keen interest. After coming down from the carousel, she waited for her sister whom her mum had accompanied for a Ferris wheel ride to come down so that she would join them.

"Stop smiling like some naive village girl because you look so ugly even though you have covered your heinous face," Victoria who just stepped down from the Ferris ride berated her angrily. As she walked passed, she deliberately bumped into Stephanie's shoulder causing her shawl to loosen more. Stephanie felt hurt hearing her mean words but she still forced a smile on her face. She knew showing how hurt she was will only give her the liberty to say even more hurtful words to her. Her mum did not reprimand her sister for picking on her. Anyways Stephanie did not expect her mum to stand up for her because she herself always said words worse than that of Victoria to her.

After playing for about thirty minutes, Mrs Smith found a spot for her and Victoria to sit down while exhausted Stephanie stood beside them. Anyone who saw her standing like that would think that she was a maid and not Mrs Smith's daughter.

"Hey, get me a bottle of juice," Victoria ordered rudely, handing money to Stephanie who gladly stretched her hands to collect the money. Stephanie ran hastily to where drinks were sold and grabbed a bottle of Victoria's favorite juice for her. Coming back she was running as well knowing that she would be shouted at if she spent so much time out there.

"Here sis," Stephanie said panting heavily as she handed the juice over to her. Victoria's eyebrows furrowed in annoyance when she saw the juice Stephanie bought for her.

"Hey dummy, who told you to buy this? Did I tell you that I wanted an apple flavoured juice?" Victoria shouted angrily, throwing the bottle of juice at her. She completely forgot that they were in a crowded place not at home where she normally abused Stephanie both physically and emotional. Everyone turned around to face the nasty temper twelve year old Victoria who shouted at another girl.

"Sis, I recalled you telling me to always buy you this brand of juice and this particular flavor so what is wrong.....,"

"Did you just talk back at me?" Victoria asked standing up to her feet.
