Chapter 5 - Reprecussion

SEVEN MONTHS LATER. MUSUTAFU HOSPITAL, OCTOBER 5TH. 5:46AM.

"Doctor… Did anything change with my son?" Inko's eyes were swollen, red and purple from a constant stream of tears. Every day for the past seven months, Inko visited her son after work. Ever since he's fallen into a coma, she hasn't been getting rest either.

The doctor sighed, the short dwarf of a man tugged on his gray mustache, feeling sorry for the mother. "Nothing changed as of yet, ma'am. We promised to call you if he woke up." Inko nodded slowly, apologizing for her constant bugging.

Staring at the medical room her son laid in, scarred and unconscious, she felt tears well up in her eyes again. 'Oh- It's all my fault!' She cried, the tears just poured out without hindrance. She blamed herself for everything that went wrong in her son's life, and it only caused her health to decline.

But regardless of her own feelings on the matter, she had to be there for her son. No matter what changes he goes through or what decisions he makes. That's what a mother does, and she committed to that role the day she had him.

Walking into the room, Inko sucked in a deep breath seeing her son hooked up to monitors and countless machines to give Izuku the nutrients his body needed. She approached his bedside slowly, scared that any quick movement would endanger her baby.

She lifted the medical blanket, her fingers tracing the ugly scars that ran up his arm, along his shoulder and traps. His back and some of his neck. Her tears drained faster and harder, and soon, she was on her knees with her son's hand within her, weeping like a lost child.

Within Izuku's consciousness, he was busy at work taming the energy he was gifted. It was like a wild, rampant beast that refused to submit. But after months of practice, taming and gentle control.

His powers were finally his.

'Took longer than I thought.' He hummed mentally, feeling his esper abilities grow by the second as the core of energy within his brain continued to feed out a steady river of power throughout his body.

Like veins through the body, he treated his psionic energy the same way. This way, his abilities were evenly distributed throughout his entire body; which will strengthen his body like an enhancer quirk, but it's permanently active.

'With how much energy I'm generating.. I wonder If I'll ever hit a limit. If I don't, that's good, but it'll only make it more necessary for my body to keep up.' He mused, a little dissatisfied that his original training plan didn't come to fruition due to his childish impatience.

'Since it was my fault in the first place, I'll have to fix it.' Shrugging, he sighs. 'Time to wake up now.' Just like that, the seven month self-induced coma was brought to an end. His eyes opened shakily and his esper powers instantly came to life. His extrasensory perception relayed the whole room layout to him; including Inko who was bawling like a child at his side.

He didn't say a word, but his initial annoyance that'd normally strike when he sees her over dramatic actions, was nowhere to be found. Contrary, he gripped her hand tighter. A small smile gracing his lips as she looked up at him with an expression telling her thoughts.

"A-Am I dreaming? P-Please tell me this isn't some sick joke…" She muttered, and Izuku scoffed. "It's not a dream, mom. I'm up." Inko jumped into her son's arms, the latter feeling the inevitable awkwardness become a little overwhelming.

'Ah whatever. I can give her this at least. I am in her son's body after all.' Letting the middle-aged mother get out whatever tears she needed, out of her system, they soon separated.

"I-I thought you died! Y-You told me you were going to the beach! A-A-And then I get a call from the damn hospital!" Once her sadness, happiness and relief settled; Next came the anger and frustration.

Izuku didn't say a word, even as she irrationally banged on his chest with her hands. A mix of anger, happiness, relief and frustration kept pulling on her heart strings. But she sucked it up and her face formed a frown.

"Then theres the whole attitude change! It's like you're a whole new person! I thought it was something personal, something I had no business butting into. But now?! Just what the hell is going on with you, Izuku?" She demanded, her gaze leaving no room for negotiation.

At this point, Izuku was ignoring her. His thoughts already on his future moves and what he should do with his time going forward; Tuning back into her rant at the last second though, Izuku refrained from rolling his eyes and softened his voice.

"...Can we not talk about this here? W-we're still at the hospital, mom.. And I'm tired, and I want to go home. We can talk about this later…" Inko paused, taking a deep breath before huffing. "Fine. You're right, I'm sorry. Let's get you checked out first before we do anything." She compromised sweetly, but sending a glare soon after.

"And then it's me and you mister." Izuku nodded slowly.

The doctors came rushing in the room after Inko let them know her son was awake. They did some tests, asked about how he was feeling and even told him that All-Might saved him. To that, Izuku only nodded with a feigned smile.

Saying something along the lines of, "He's the reason I'm going to UA!" Or something… Anyway, the doctors administered Izuku's release after another week of testing and seeing if he can function normally.

Coma's were something that any doctor had to take seriously, regardless of the time period. Whether they were out for a week, a month or ten years, each coma patient is treated the same; The more serious ones are treated with more care though.

Arriving at home, Izuku was immediately told he was ground- Whatever that means- And he was forced to have a sit down with his mom.

"Izuku. Be honest with me… What happened that day? What changed?" Inko pressed, leaning forward on the couch while Izuku was standing in front of her. He was wrapped in bandages, from his right arm, around his torso and ending at his neck. With his hands in his pockets, Izuku shrugged.

"I don't know. Guess a simple way to put it is that I've experienced a reality check. A big one." Inko sighed, rubbing her forehead. "Okay.. That's good- I guess, but what about the attitude change? Who have you been hanging out with? Do I need to monitor you every second of the day?" Izuku stared blankly at the woman in front of him, somewhat feeling warm inside from her constant bickering.

"Attitude change? Eh~ I don't know how to explain that. I came to the conclusion that I have nothing to worry about at the UA exam. I'm smart, and I know I am. I have worth; No matter what anyone says. I'm better than any of those idiots who take that exam; mentally at least." Inko raised her head in surprise.

'Idiots?' Her mind didn't even bother to register his unbothered confidence in his own abilities. His evaluation of people was always positive, he never spoke bad about someone in his whole life.

And now his future classmates are idiots?

"Izuku-"

"Mom, I'm fine. I promise." Izuku kneeled down, grabbing her hand as he injected her with a wisp of his energy. Sending it to her mind, he activated the part of the brain that released dopamine, attempting at speeding up her little Q&A.

Inko's eyes widened, her previous frustration and anxiousness was nowhere to be found; being replaced with a sense of peace and happiness, she smiled as she nodded at her son's words.

"Okay. I'll believe you, but! If you lie to me again, say goodbye to UA and any other public activity. You'll be grounded a lot longer than just a month." Izuku chuckles, nodding, "Okay, I can work with that.. I'm sorry, mom. I really am." Putting his head down, Izuku feigned guilt; Inko bought it, lifting her son's head and hugging him dearly.

"It's okay. Just.. Stop scaring me." The two sat in silence, Izuku hugging Inko lightly and Inko squeezing Izuku to death.

"Ugh." Izuku groaned, plopping on his bed, staring off blankly at the ceiling. 'Transcendent. Transcendent.' He repeated over and over inside his head. 'Just what the hell is Transcendence.' He frowned.

'To finally tame my power, it took a little over seven months. Leaving me with around two more months till January and my admission into UA. With those two months, I'm going to focus on strengthening my body. That should aid in my power output rising to an acceptable amount. In between my rest periods I'll meditate for three hours and switch to experimenting with my esper abilities.' He mentally noted.

'I'll be setting up my reputation and finding my future business partners tomorrow night… Mmm, guess I'm going to Tokyo. I've caused too much of a ruckus here- Though it's been seven months since.' Giving the people here a benefit of the doubt, Izuku sighed again.

Closing his eyes as it was late, October 13th marks the day where Izuku Midoriya will finally take his first steps.
