Chapter 2

Beep...

beep...

Celine opened her eyes and gazed unblinking into the dark nothingness. The surrounding was cold, sending a chill down the nape of her neck resulting in a sudden shiver from her. Looking around she spotted a single light source hovering calmly, its dim light doing nothing to light up the surroundings.

"Who are you?"

Her emotionless voice added to the already eerie atmosphere.

[I am system T100, created from the world's essence after the Lost Cause Initiative's (LCI) sudden malfunction; its original purpose to handle any unwarranted crossings into this world.]

"Crossings?"

[Yes, and you have been charged with the responsibility of exterminating these illegal immigrants.]

"Pray tell, why would I be willing to follow orders from some creepy floating light?"

[These transmigrations and reincarnations are occurring at a rapid rate consuming the world's essence at a fast pace and as a result, weakening the seal keeping this world hidden from the rest of the universe.]

"I'm dead. How does any of this concern me?" Celine asked with furrowed brows.

She didn't care about this world or any other in this supposedly vast universe.

[There will be conditions, of course. By accepting this responsibility you will receive the gift of life once more, along with some perks. You are free to do as you please when no task is assigned, there will be no interference on my part. However, this privilege only stands if you complete your given task, how you go about doing this is none of my concern.]

"Hmm."

"Sounds interesting. However, why don't you do this yourself if you can even give new life, and what is this Lost Cause Initiative you speak of." Celine offered indifferently.

[To answer your first question, as I mentioned before there was a malfunction with the project thus some features of the original design aren't available. As for the Lost Cause Initiative, all you need to know is that its purpose was to prevent invaders from breaching into this world.]

'Sketchy much, well it's not like I'm getting a better deal.' She looked at T100 skeptically.

"How do I know you won't back out on our little deal? Words are empty promises, especially from something that has nothing to lose."

[I have no reason to 'back out on our deal' as this brings me no benefit and on the contrary, might push you to help the invaders rather than dispose of them. As far as guaranteeing this though, there is no way to ensure anything. All there is to it is as they say, 'trust me'.]

"Ok. Then it's a deal."

The chance to get revenge on those who took everything from her sounded enticing. Weighing the pros and cons of her situation she finally came up with an answer.

"However, you better ensure that there is no interference when I'm out in the field."

"Let's see, how about I address you as Little Li from now on, your name is too weird."

[That is none of my concern, it is your choice... Transferring host to your first destination, Terraria.]

Celine once again opened her eyes, this time a blinding bright light could be seen creeping from between tree leaves.
