16 Ch. 16 Progress after two months

I was walking through the halls like a peacefully like usual when the goon squad came around the corner. It was already end of October and students had already started seeing me as someone who would be by myself even though I would often hang out with my friends like Alice and lavender and sometimes even go to watch quidditch practice with Roger. The goon squad's leader was Marcus Flint a third-year typical bully who also considered himself above others. He was followed by Adrian Pucey, Graham Montague I think they were in my year and a few others. Probably trying to secure themselves a position on the team since Marcus for being nasty was considered a good flyer and with Slytherin winning so many cups in a row brought some amount of reputation with it. Quite smart if you ask me.

They often ran into me. They didn't particularly look out or single me out but whenever I saw them, they would make sure to point out their superiority. I actually didn't mind as I was thought they would try something worse but they never drew their wands or attacked first. I think they were trying to get a tick out of me by using their words so I would so as to say start the fight first. I often avoided them or just didn't reciprocate their insults if you could even call them that. They were after all children; I could probably think 10 times more nastier things. I was waiting for them to try something as I was itching to get into a fight. I would probably just throw their wands out of the window or something, nothing too drastic no point in making them retaliate more.

I had basically spent all my free time in the ROR. My aim had improved a lot I could constantly hit the centre of the target dummies with the knockback jinx 'flipendo'. I had covered most of the charms in my first-year text book. I didn't have any type of mastery over them but I could perform most of them easily. I would spend quite some time repeating them till I could actually use them in combat or in duels. I had also learnt some useful higher year spells that I thought were must know. One of them obviously being the infamous disarming charm 'expelliarmus' took me so much time. It would still fail now and then but It was a good charm to know in many situations.

Other spells which I practiced were mainly control type. The water making charm 'Aguamenti' charm I could successfully use and make somebody wet. It had 0 fire power for now and the actual fire making charm 'Incendio' went actually better then the water one and I did have minimal control. Like I would not burn the person standing besides the one I was targeting type of control over the spell. I didn't know anything about it but I felt like I had a natural affinity towards the fire making spell more then the water one. Just the sight of a flamethrower coming out of your wand was exhilarating of course it was not like a flamethrower more like a jet of fire but I already knew that this was going to be one of my most liked charms.

The other first year charms that I practiced were 'Lumos solem' which was basically like the fire making charm but much more easily targeted and worked on the principle of targeting the heat generated by light towards something rather then the direct fire making charm which spewed fire towards the object. The next one was the 'Severing charm' nasty piece of charm. I one put a lot of power in the spell and it cut through the arm of the dummy I was practicing it on.

On the wandless side of things, I decided to wait as after reading I found out how lucky I got with the levitating charm. And mid-way through the accio one. It took me over 4 years to get anywhere in that but I basically had bypassed a lot of levels during that. The typical way it would proceed was first learn to cast the charm with the wand. After that using your imagination, intent and proper skill master it with the wordlessly so that it becomes a type of muscle memory. After that to bypass the wand movements and to invoke the spell wandlessly one must know the arithmancy behind how the spell was formed, which was the function of the wand movement. This makes taking Arithmancy for me as a 3rd year subject mandatory. While runes were used to inscribe the spells on objects which was the basics on enchanting it seemed like.

After you manage to bypass your wand movements by building your spell in your mind. You would need to work on reducing the timing taken by the spell to cast to make it practical. This was a long list of things to do before I could get anywhere near wandless casting. Just thinking about the theory made my head hurt. The only relief being similar types of spells had similar workings and making so once I had let's say a fire type spell down other fire type spells would be easier to remember as their base would be similar just the making of spell more complex. Everything would be learnt in time. For right now my collection of spells looked somewhat like this

With wand

Wand lighting charm – Lumos

Levitating charm – Wingardium leviosa

Fire making charm – Incendio

Water making charm – Augamenti

Severing charm – Diffindo

Mending charm – Reparo

Dissarming charm – Expelliarmus

Heat producing charm – Lumos Soelm

Locking charm – Colloportus

Unlucking charm – Alohomora

Softening charm - Spongify

Counter wand lighting – Nox

General counter spell - Finite

Knockback jinx - Flipendo

Wandlessly

Levitating charm

Accio (unknown success rate)

Almost all of these were first year charms except for the disarming charm and the general counter spell but the fact that I was already almost 7 months ahead. Even if it takes a couple of months to master the spells I have learnt right now, I would be able to learn a plethora of new spells maybe higher years or at least work towards new types like detecting, tracking or combat spells soon.

The next thing I learned was about duelling the basic set of rules. The fact that you had to remember the exact chain of spells so that the wand movements tied into each other perfectly, to master the general counter spell, have a huge selection of spells and to learn the counter spells for the generally used curses. Since finite would work on the spells throw directly at you. Which made learning the protego charm my next priority as they could block any physical entities as well as if used skillfully bounce the curse back to the caster. Which also meant I had to learn the counter curse for all the special hexes and curses I used. So much work. I thought this would be a walk in the park with me transmigrating from a different world and all. Why is everything so complex?

Just the fact that harry used only first and second year spells throughout the series can make you understand the amount of plot armour the boy had. How shall one defeat the dark lord who sacrificed his own SOUL and probably siphons the magic power from his followers with a second-year spell tell me mother magic tell me how is that fair??!! *cough cough* I maybe went on a tangent there. I was progressing nicely with the meditation and I could now enter the state whenever I wished, I would still not be able to do it while doing something. I would need my full attention on it but still that was an improvement, that also boosted my retention of theoretical knowledge up by a notch.

I was focusing on the foundations. Things take time once I would complete learning the theoretical knowledge of the subjects learning spells would speed up. The world is more about strategy till you were overpowered enough to destroy the surrounding vicinity of the person as a strong spell but targeted right at you could be easily dodged. I also realized that I had only 3 friends still having some Is more than none. I would try and increase my interactions with people more while continuing to learn new things. I wanted to go on adventures, explore different lost monuments and meet new types of magical animals and plants. I still get amazed by the lights the fire and everything I could produce just by flicking a wrist. The world of magic was truly wonderous.
