21 You Are Mine

"You are lying." His eyes narrowed as though he was challenging her to say otherwise.

Although shaken up by his bearing— her heart drumming against her chest— she managed to maintain her composure before saying, "Why would I do that? We are even getting married soon. If you want, I can send you an invitation. This—"

Without giving her a chance to carry on, he gripped on her chin and pressed down his lips on hers aggressively. She tried to struggle against it in the beginning, but holding rage inside her, she responded with same passion.

She found herself almost drowning into that kiss, intoxicated to the point of losing her senses, when the thought of daughter flashed in her mind. This made her snap out of it.

Pulling away, she glowered at him before she pushed him away from her. He moved back. Wiping away her lips with the back of her hand, her eyes held unadulterated disgust for him.

"Stay away from me," she said, "desperation doesn't suit you, Mr. Daniel."

With that, she walked away resolutely, and he had his eyes on her back while he mumbled, "I won't let you run away this time, Amelia. I promise. You are mine."

Those eyes of his held overwhelming amount of possessiveness.

"Little Eve, boss is calling me. You will be able to stay here on your own, right?" Steven said.

Evelyn nodded her head.

"Then, bye. Don't go around picking fights again. Take care of yourself."

Evelyn scrunched up her nose. She didn't go and pick up fight with others; he was wrong on that.

Nonetheless, she waved her hand.

"Have a good day, Mr. Steven."

She wanted to see her father today, but it would worry her mom if she disappeared from here. Few minutes later, her mom came, and her state was disheveled. It seemed that she had been in a fight.

The corner of her lips was injured, building up concern in Evelyn.

Did her mom get into a fight as well?

No, it would be more of a case of other party attacking her mom.

From the information she had, she knew her mom got easily targeted by other people, and instantly getting off from her seat, she walked off to her mom, asking, "Mom, who hurt you?"

"Evelyn, baby, let's go home," she said.

Evelyn had a lot to say, but she noticed that her mother's hand was shaking. This made a frown form on her face. Forcing out a smile on her face, she grabbed her mom's hand and swayed her hand.

"Hmm, mom, let's go!"

That incident in the restaurant made Amelia feel anxious. When she returned home that day, she was unable to concentrate on anything. What would she do if Daniel insisted of being persistent?

Although she made her point clear, it wouldn't be bringing her surprise if Daniel continued to be persistent.

Without the consideration of others, he was the one to get what he wanted. The means didn't matter to him.

However, the quality of him that she once found charming was the reason for her growing anxiety that clawed on her being.

Hugging her teddy bear, Evelyn entered the kitchen. Watching her mother absent-minded stir the pot as the content inside it was able to pour out due to being boiled too much caused her eyes to widen.

Extending her hand, she immediately acted to turn off the flame, and that snapped her mom out of it.

"Are you alright, Mom?" she softly questioned.

She wondered what was the issue. Her mom didn't ask her about why Richard had left ahead of time. Ever since she had returned from washroom, she was like this, lost in her own thoughts.

Amelia nodded.

"Yeah, I am fine. All fine. I don't think I will be able to cook now. Why don't we order food tonight? What does my baby want to eat?"

Amelia forced out a smile, not wishing to worry Evelyn. Although just five, she could be pretty perceptive.

Evelyn ran through the ideas in her head before beaming and exclaiming, "Pizza!"

"Got it!"

"I will go and bring your phone."

Little Eve rushed off after it.

Although the first idea in Amelia's head was to escape, she knew that couldn't be considered a possible option. She started working here, and Evelyn too attended the kindergarten.

Not only would it almost impossible for her to find decently paying job again, such a place with high security would be hard to search for. Moreover, Eve cried a lot when they moved out last time, not liking how she had to leave behind her friends.
