Void Monkey

Jie Jun quickly made a turn while jumping back to avoid the claw slash. Taking a closer look after getting some distance. Jie Jun saw a rat about the size of 2 adult human heads.

The whole thing's fur was a greenish grey color that gave the impression it was dripping acid. Using Identify let him know it was called Dirt Rat and it was only level 1.

The stats said it had around 16 points with it being more inclined to spirit resistance and vitality. Five points in each. This rat beast basically had fast healing and high defense against energy like damage.

The good news was it had lower speed then Jie Jun. Seeing it about to attack again, Jie Jun took his spear and made a sweep attack move, cutting off the rat's dodging space and momentum.

Having stopped its rhythm, a Sprint followed by a regular spear thrust later, skewered the rat in mid-air while it was still in free fall from jumping his sweep. One flick next was all it took to let its body hit the ground.

Jie Jun could now see just how great learning the spear abilities were. He easily killed a more stat beast with no effort. He used Identify again to check if the beast had a Death Orb.

Jie Jun got no signs from the skill so he knew it was a miss. He did get 1 exp point though. The reason he checked its status, is because once something died, it could not shield its secrets unless the rank was higher than the Identify skill.

Jie Jun did not waste too much time lingering around. He still decided to circle the outer edge of the forest to find more beasts.

The beast he needed to hunt was called Void Monkey. This monkey was a level 1 beast with sneak attacks and speed being the only thing it had going for it. Its preferred methods were, to lie in wait for its victims using a rare ability that hid its presence when it stood still that came from its Void Status talent.

Once it felt the victim let their guard down, it would then use its great speed to kill them unnoticed. To identify one by features; the beast looked like a normal monkey while being half the size of a human adult and its second pair of arms having sharp scissors like hands 2 to 3 feet long.

Wondering for some time Jie Jun chanced upon a small group of Dirt Rats. Going by the earlier experience he decided to attack them, so he could get use too fighting groups. The next action these rats took was surprising, however.

They took up a pincer type of formation instead of attacking right off the bat.

Being surrounded did give Jie Jun a small feeling of pressure but since he could use Sprint and Spear Thrust together to create a short distance movement and attack travel like kind of move he didn't lose any confidence about the situation.

The number of Dirt Rats was 5. To destroy their formation he attacked the rat facing toward his front. His speed right now had 3 stats in it. Together with a 6 level Sprint skill the rats really didn't have to much room of fighting back with just 1 stat in speed and physical resistance each.

Not using the Sprint skill, just his normal speed was 3 times faster than them. Jie Jun simply needed to keep from using the Spear Thrust skill to save his stamina, since their spirit resistance was too high to get extra damage from spirit energy in skill attacks at his level.

By the time the 4 rats surrounding him acted to his blitz attack the beast rat in front died. He then used the weight of the rat's body to stall the rest by flinging it at them. Since breaking through the formation to kill the first beast, the 4 left ended up grouping, which made this move possible. He once again used a sweeping attack which led 2 rats to jump up and the other 2 to dodge sideways.

One Sprint and good positioning killed both in just a single attack before their bodies touch the ground. If others with a 1 stat perception and agility were to see this scene it would look like Jie Jun blurred before holding a big rat shish kebab. When using the Sprint skill it could be said he was more than 4 times faster than the average human.

For the last 2, Jie Jun didn't use Sprint again. His stamina stat was still just 1, so Sprint took a lot out of him. If the abilities and stats used was too vast from the stamina stats, it would drain stamina more.

He fought them using the Basic Spearmanship technique. Once he killed the last 2 beast rats he checked each one for a Death Orb. To his luck, he got 2 orbs which came from the last 2 beasts. Wanting to regain his stamina and absorb the orbs he left the area and found a small secluded spot.

These 2 Death Orbs he got was not going to be used to try for gaining abilities. The current him was considered far behind his pars, so he planned on doing what only big shots would feel no regret doing. He was going to use both Death Orbs for leveling. In other words, using them for experience points.

Right now he had 30 exp points from the spear ability orbs and 6 exp points for killing 6 Dirt Rats. Leveling by using Death Orbs as exp from Dirt Rats, would allow Jie Jun the chance to get 99% exp for each orb of what the Dirt Rat gives when killed.

This showed that when killing beasts or things it only gave out 1% exp, and the rest was in its Death Orb. Of course, there would always be wasted energy even when just giving it to the body instead of containing it.

All this meant was that Jie Jun had a chance to get either 1 to 99 exp points for each Death Orb. With his absorbing speed, it should take him 1 to 2 hours for each since he wouldn't be trying to contain it at all, and more than doubling his speed compare to when he has to work harder when containing it.

There was another cause for concern after experiencing fighting beasts. Speed was a scary attribute to have. Fighting those rats before let him see how helpless something can be when not being able to keep up.

Then there was the Void Monkey that was first-rate in sneak attacks with insane speeds. To be helpless because the foe is fast is terrible but to face that same foe with the ability to hide and get close in before you are aware is downright terrifying.

Jie Jun could feel the pressure on him grow larger. He came with the thought that, with them both being level 1 creatures he can still cope with it. The thing was, beasts had an advantage over humans on the same level. Add that to the Agility attribute that it specialized, with hiding as well, is no different than seeking death on one's own.

"After absorbing these 2 Death Orbs, if I don't level up, I need to go farm those beast rats before continuing to hunt for a Void Monkey."

3 hours passed by and the energy flowing through Jie Jun was slowly dying down and new exp increasing. However, there was no unlocking feeling after using the second orb. Jie Jun could only sigh in disappointment. His luck just didn't seem to be good enough.

The first orb gave him a little over 40 exp points, jumping his total exp close to 80 exp points. The second death orb was better by giving him over 50 exp points. This brought his total exp points to 135 exp points. If he had got 15 exp points more he would level up and be able to feel more confident in killing a Void Monkey.

Jie Jun got up from his sitting spot. He would now have the farm for the rest, so he can level up. Whether it was through Death orbs or normal killings, his new goal was to put the hunt for the Void Monkey on hold and kill low levels.

"I guess I'm still a newbie in game terms." Jie Jun commented before giving a small laugh.

Once leaving he started looking for easy targets he believed would be no problem. During his kills, he killed all kinds of different beasts.

When he first left he started growing agitated because he couldn't find any more beast rats. After searching for 2 days and a half he started to find beasts like bird types, one being named Blind Eagle because its breed's talent let it use an illusion attack skill to confuse the eyes' perception but Jie Jun killed it before it got the chance.

Then there was the dog type, one being called Face Mutt because its nature was to only attack the face area of its preys. Sadly since it was a strength attribute with only 2 stats in agility and no speed boosting skills or techniques, it also died at Jie Jun's hands. It took longer than the others because if he made a mistake once and got hit, he would have definitely died.

There were a few other, level 1 kind of beasts, but the most dangerous one was the cat type and the one that angered Jie Jun the most. It died faster than the Face Mutt beast but not by much.

Cat Burglar was a speed type and like to steal rather than fight or kill. If someone was to steal from it instead, it would never let them go. It was to the point where it would chase them even out of the Wild Forest completely disregarding its territory.

What angered Jie Jun so much was that it stole the beast corpse he killed but couldn't grab the Death Orb at the time because he was fighting another wild beast. By the time he noticed the beast cat was long gone and it took a whole day to find it.

The worse news was, it consumed, all of it before he showed up. Then there are its main attributes being vitality and agility. To top it off, Cat Burglars have a speed skill. Thankfully the attribute is more vitality and didn't seem to be at 100%, but compared to a sole agility type like the Void Monkey, it was a lot slower.

The Cat Burglars was also the last beast he needed to level up after killing a total of 15 wild beasts. So when he felt the unlocking feeling, he still smiled at finally meeting his first goal.

Looking at his status screen he decided to put both body and talent stat toward his speed growth. His goal, after all, was to kill Void Monkeys. If he didn't also become a sole speed type, a Void Monkey would easily kill him.

Still, with his mind's eye looking at the status and his eyes closed in concentration, his Agility went to 5 stat point and his Sprint skill became a G3-rank level 11 skill.

Since the stat talent doubles and the Sprint skill having a matched talent, it leveled up 6 times. Four level made it level 10 and 2 more levels made it G3-rank level 11.

Jie Jun could feel the boost in him. Though he wasn't using the Sprint skill, he still felt nearly invincible.

Of course, all this was just a feeling. The most he could do was run fast and had no way to fight a G3-rank body level Ranker because of the void to all damage, not G3-rank or above, ranking effect. He also lacked the stamina to use his speed to the fullest.

Feeling refreshed he opened his eyes to see a Void Monkey standing about a foot or 2 away with one of its second pair of arms outstretch and his neck between its sharp hand like scissors.
