Chapter 65

If you're diabetic, don't read this chapter else you'll suffer from sugar overload.

I'm joking

Please enjoy!

As idiotic as I feel right now, I am doing everything exactly as the plot in the romcom.

I covered my face in shame.

It's not like I'm doing it consciously, I'm just trying to take care of him.

Really!

I'm being genuine!

A nurse came in the room with a plate of his lunch. The food looked bland but healthy. I've never been hospitalized before but I heard the food was not the greatest.

I should cook for him. He's never tasted my cooking, huh.

I slapped the top of my head.

Okay.

The nurse brought in the cart next to his bed and she smiled gently at me.

She quietly left the room seeing as she didn't have to do much anymore.

The others too left long ago to not bother Charlie.

My heart twirled in amusement.

I looked at him and he smiled at me.

"Natsumi."

"Yes?"

"Natsumi."

"Charlie."

We stared at each other.

My eyes felt dry and I blinked.

He laughed and celebrated his victory.

...Poopoo head.

"Are you hungry Charlie?"

His big clear eyes stared at me and he bobbed his head.

"Yah."

I stood up from my chair and sat down on the bed with his food.

He smiled at me, "I can eat by myself."

"...No."

I stared at him and denied his request.

"...but… I really can eat by myself."

"No."

He shrugged.

He scooted over closer to me and opened his mouth.

"How's the food?"

"It's good."

What?

My whole life I've heard hospital food is bad. It doesn't even look appetizing. Have I been fooled my entire life?

It tastes… bland.

Charlie likes bland food?

"Charlie, are you sure this is good?"

"Mmm, it could be worked on but it's not bad."

Ah, he's just being polite to the people that made this food.

I nodded and fed him again.

"Isn't it better when others feed you?"

"Un, it's better. You were right."

He stared at the wall blankly and chewed his food with his mouth open.

This side of him is adorable. Usually, he is so upright and technically perfect with his manners, method of speech, and discipline. Right now, he absolutely doesn't care anymore.

I took a napkin and wiped the food from the side of his mouth.

"What'd you do today, Natsumi?"

"Mm, the class was a little more boring than usual. We also didn't know you were in the hospital so when we found out we rushed here after class."

"Ah, I'm in the hospital?"

I almost fell off of the bed.

He just realized?

"Charlie, you're in the hospital."

"Why am I in the hospital?"

He doesn't even know what happened to him?

"We were told you were in a coma before you woke up with us and the doctors suspect you got a brain injury."

"Brain injury?"

"Yes, it's not certain right now though."

He nodded and stared blankly at the bedsheets.

He's probably trying to remember what happened.

"I can't remember what happened."

"Hmm?"

"Yeah, it feels like a part of my mem—"

He suddenly went blank.

"Charlie?"

I began panicking. Is he undergoing another round of brain trauma? Does remembering the situation make him suffer? No wonder the nurses haven't asked him anything regarding the situation. I'm an idiot.

Barraging myself with insults Charlie, who I thought went into another coma, pat my leg.

I sighed in relief.

"What happened Charlie?"

"I dunno, I just forgot what we were doing."

"Does your head hurt?"

I pat his head.

He smiled at me.

"Are you still hungry?"

"No. I'm fine thank you."

Well, his speech is still filled with manners, his other actions not so much.

"You should sleep. You'll recover faster for your Knife Agency debut."

His eyes widened in shock.

"You know?"

I smiled at him.

"I know everything."

"You do?"

"Yes."

"Okay, then tell me something about me I don't know."

"You're in Weath's Citrus Hospital."

"Ohhhh, you're right. You do know everything."

We giggled stupidly.

"I know the future too."

"You do?"

"Yea."

"Okay, what happens in the future?"

"You'll get older."

He laughed innocently.

He's like a child right now. Laughing at every single joke.

"Alright alright, it's nap time now."

"Is it?"

"Yep."

"I don't wanna sleep."

"You have to."

"I don't wanna."

"Why?"

"You're here."

"If I leave will you sleep?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because then you're not here anymore."

"But you have to sleep."

"Don't wanna."

"I'll leave if you don't sleep."

"If you leave I won't sleep."

"I'll stay if you sleep."

"I won't sleep if you stay."

I turned silent.

"So either way you won't sleep?"

"That's right. Stay."

My heart fluttered. Stupid stupid stupid. How can you so easily get flustered?

Ah, I feel like punching myself. I always laughed at the people that got shy at cheesy comments yet here I am experiencing this feeling I've never had before.

Stupid romcoms.

"Okay, if you won't sleep then you have to get healthy quickly."

"Okay, I know how to."

"You do?"

He smiled with mischief.

"Yep, yep."

I smiled back at him.

"Natsumi let's watch something."

"Oh, there's something I was planning on watching."

"Really? What's it called?"

"It's about this boy who loses hi—" I coughed with shame. "I mean, it's a romance comedy show."

"Oh is it? Well, laughter is the best cure. Let's watch it."

"You don't know what it is about, yet."

"Mm, I just wanna watch something with you."

I nodded.

"Okay, it's a K-Drama. Do you know what that is?"

"Yeah, a Korean drama."

"Okay. We'll have to read subtitles, can you read?"

"Un, my eyes feel better than before."

I was about to pass that comment off until I realized we're in a hospital.

"Your eyes are better than before?"

I stared at him seriously.

"Yeah, it's because you're here."

At the unexpected flattery, I felt blood rising to my head.

"Idiot."

He smiled.

I coughed trying to drive away my fluttering feelings.

"By the way, the school knows already and the teachers asked us to deliver you your work."

"Oh, they did?"

"Yap, I haven't done it yet. Let's watch the drama after doing the work."

"Okay."

His eyes turned calculating and logical, a huge disparity from his smiley and seductively smirking e—

I coughed again and took out our homework from my backpack.

"Are you sick?"

He did not try to hide his concern.

"Ah, don't worry about it. You're the one in the hospital bed right now."

"Are you sick?" He ignored my last statement and continued with worry.

"No, no. My throat was just a little dry."

I handed him his homework.

His eyes lingered on mine for a while before taking the papers and scanning them.

He scooted a little further away and signaled me to sit closer.

I scooted over.

"Take the shoes off." His clear innocent eyes looked down at mine.

That's a little too…

Deleting my hesitation, I took the shoes off and placed my legs next to his.

I put my backpack over our thighs.

"Desk."

He pulled the blanket over our legs.

Two people under bed sheets with no shoes…

I was about to cough but I barely restrained myself.

"Blanket."

I handed him a pencil.

"Pencil."

He nodded.

"Pencil."

He glanced and kept glancing at the clock worriedly.

"Why are you looking at the time?"

"..."

I nudged his shoulder.

He looked down like a child.

Ah, how cute.

I pat his head.

"What happened?"

He stayed quiet before opening his mouth.

"Are you going to the gym?"

I smiled and began laughing.

That's what he's so worried about?

"No, I'm not going to the gym. I can't go without my gym buddy, can I?"

"..."

His head stayed down.

"What's up now?"

"...At what time are you leaving?"

I stroked his hair carefully.

"...I don't know, but it's okay. I'll visit you tomorrow."

My heart started beating faster.

I'll just be bold for this once. It's not like he'll mind, right?

He's like a little kid right now, it's okay. He won't care.

I stopped patting his head and wrapped my arms around his head.

Surprisingly, he wrapped his arms around my back. Leaning on me, a childish voice came out.

"Natsumi."

"Charlie?"

"Natsu."

"Cholly."

"Tsumi."

"Chabby."

"Mimi."

"Chuchu."

"How about sleeping with me?" He said innocently.

I released him from the hug and coughed to the side.

Is that what you say to a girl with who you're under the sheets wearing no shoes?

He nudged me,

"Hey, are you lying to me? Are you sick?"

"Nono, don't worry Cholly."

He frowned.

"Don't lie to me okay, Mimi?"

He's sooo cute.

I pat his head.

"I promise I won't, Chuchu."

"So can you sleep with me?"

"...No."

"..."

"..."

"...Okay... You have school and have to study and have other things to do. You can't stay here too long."

"Yes yes, but apart from that, boys and girls can't sleep together."

He frowned before finally connecting the dots.

Yes, you see my dilemma now?

His face reddened and he looked away while taking continuous peeks at me.

"But it's okay if we just sleep and don't do anything together, right?"

"Yes, but what would other people think?"

He covered his face.

"Mm, I didn't think of that. I'm sorry."

"It's okay."

"Don't leave too late. It's dangerous outside at night."

He put his hand on my knee cap.

I nodded at him.

"Okay, I won't."

He nodded.

"Did we have other homework to do?"

"No, we've finished everything. You're really quick. How come whenever I do homework with you I do everything faster?"

He smiled sheepishly and scratched his head.

"Really?"

Why does this motion look… practiced?

It looks natural but way too perfect to be natural.

Hmm…

"I feel like we've got other homework though…"

"Well, you're usually very busy every day so you always have something on your mind to do. Maybe since you're so free now you feel like you have to do something when you don't need to?"

He smiled at my explanation and clapped his hand once.

"Mimi you're very smart. That makes sense."

Suddenly the door creaked and opened.

I bolted out of the blanket onto the seat.

Call me the lightning bolt. The quickest human being on Earth.

He was a young-looking man with a sharp expression and dark everything. From his clothes to his hair, to his eyes.

He's definitely a rascal looking to stir up trouble.

Ignoring my existence completely, he stared at Charlie and walked forward to meet him.

No way you're beating up an injured person.

I stood up protectively and stared at him suspiciously.

"Who are you?"

Finally, he glanced at me and widened his eyes.

"Hello, I'm Blake. Charlie's close friend and mentor. May I ask who you are?"

I squinted my eyes suspiciously.

He took a step—

"Don't get any closer."

My voice radiated full command and he complied.

Suddenly another man came in looking even fiercer than the black-haired dude.

Gangsters? Are they hitmen?

I'll kill them.

"Uh, John. This girl looks like Charlie's friend but she doesn't trust us. What do we do?"

"Uh…"

"John? Blake?"

From behind me, Charlie called out.

I stared between both of them while still keeping a barrier between them.

"Charlie!" Both of them yelled out.

"Hello, you came to visit me?"

"Charlie, how are you feeling?"

Don't ignore his question. I'll kill you.

"I'm happy, thank you."

"Great to hear. Who is this by the way?"

"Mimi."

"Mimi?"

I glanced at them suspiciously.

"I am Sato Natsumi. Who are you?"

The fierce-looking man smiled amicably at me.

"I am John and I am Charlie's temporary agent and manager. This is Blake and he's his mentor and trainer. I've heard about you a lot from Charlie, you two are very close, huh?"

My body slightly untensed a little. This man has good situation defusing skill.

That just made me even tenser.

"Temporary agent and manager… Charlie, is that true?"

Using his ability to read and de-escalate the situation very well that he always uses, he hugged me from behind and pulled me to his embrace.
