Chapter 12: The Useless Goddess Turns Out To Have Useful Qualities

Subaru awoke to the next day and awaited for the arrival of Kazuma and Aqua. They appeared and he watched their little fight before starting to walk over.

"Hey, do you nee-!"

Subaru tripped and smashed his face onto the ground giving him a severe bloody nose. Aqua came over and used a spell to heal him. At first he hadn't thought about who healed him but when he realized who did many things came to his mind.

"You can heal?! Why didn't you tell me!"

"Huh? When would I have told you other then now? ….Wait a second I sent you to this world just the other day, I bet you're more capable then that neet over there!"

Kazuma yelled from across the street while running over. "I can hear you, you know!"

"Now, now-Why don't you just calm down for a second…Still, having healing on my side could help out a lot. It turns out you may be helpful in my party after all. I can get you registered at the guild, and if you have questions about this world you can just ask me."

"You've only been here a day, how could you know much?"

"You'd be surprised…"

Subaru once again brought Kazuma and Aqua to the guild where they registered as adventurers. They sat at a table and discussed their abilities after Subaru had asked.

"Of course I the great Goddess of Water Aqua, am very powerful and have the holy might of the gods. Clearly I'm the best fighter here."

"Yeah…I think everybody believes you."

"You think I can't tell you're being sarcastic?!"

While Kazuma and Aqua continued to fight Subaru rolled his thoughts around his head.

'If I knew Aqua had healing abilities my plans could have gone so much better! This will surely help in the fight to not die…Again…' "Why don't we go and pick out a quest to take? Might as well start our adventure strong."

"Might as well, I mean we are adventurers after all."

They went to the board and as fate would decide they picked the toad killing quest. They were about to leave but then Kazuma brought something up.

"Wait a second! Shouldn't we buy some equipment first? I don't look like an adventurer in these clothes. I mean who goes around killing Demon Kings in a tracksuit?"

"That's true, we do need weapons. I still have a little money so I could probably afford a few cheap things."

They went into town and bought some adventurey looking clothes and threw them on. Aqua didn't buy anything as she started preaching how a goddess would be able to fight anything with her power alone. Of course after Subaru and Kazuma used almost all of their money on their own gear she began to cry yelling how she wanted gear too.

They ignored her and continued to walk through the town looking for any other possible equipment they may need. Subaru was being extra observant on the shops since he wanted to see if they would have anything useful against undead. Of course when shops did have items that would be useful for killing undead monsters they would be very far out of their current budget.

In the end they didn't buy anything so they left the shops behind and went to the field to start killing some toads. After much tough fighting they managed to kill two giant toads and returned to the guild for a break as it was proving to be extremely tiring.

"Is there an easier way to killing toads then this? It takes a lot more effort then I would have thought. I mean, I used to be able to just grab toads and chuck them if I wanted to but now…? Man I wish they were Japan toads, but this is our adventure so I guess hard beginnings are a must for any hero's story."

"Why don't we put up a party member wanted poster? It wouldn't hurt to have another person on our team." 'If course by person I mean Megumin. She's definitely the key to defeating the undead…Or at least that's what I hope.'

They put the post up and waited until the fabled explosion lover came into their view. Everything was going to plan and Subaru was once again able to convince his party members to let Megumin join.

She was once again eating the food they had sitting on the table and after she was finished they left the guild. They walked through the town and during that period of time Subaru began making backup plans in case anything in his current plan went wrong.

'So I have a healer, a large attack radius, someone who can watch my back and…Is there anything or anyone else I would need? …I guess if this fails and I die again I'll enlist the help of Yunyun next time. She seems to probably have some fighting ability as with what happened the first time I met her…Actually now that I think about it, could I lure the undead into a trap? But what could be used as a lure…? I'll read up on undead if my current plan fails…Then again if it does my next plan will be last chance if I really can only die three times…'

He was so zoned into his thoughts that he couldn't hear the yelling coming from behind him. By the time he heard the yells he was already falling into a hole and impaled through his stomach. He had accidentally walked into a construction site and fell into a scrap pile.

'No! No! NO! I can't waste a death like this!! Aqua! I need Aqua's healing power!'

He tried to push himself off the pole as his fellow party members were trying to get into the hole to help him but he could already feel the life leaving his body. His hands had blood from where he was trying to un-impale himself and by the time Kazuma and the others had arrived, Subaru had already begun his final loop.
