Chapter 7: The First 2 Heroes (2)

Perseus POV

"Don't tell me the wife is in on the harem, please don't let it..."

"Due to a drunken mistake, she admitted many unwanted truths." Leilah told the story "She married him only because she admired his status and wealth and has been cheating on him with a maid once she realized her daughter decided to marry her bestfriend, she continued it and he then rightfully divorce her."

"I mean, is there any point? Like this is just tragic, he's been brought to another world and entrusted to save a whole race, and after all that, he got rewarded with...this!"

"He then turned to his other friend who was the smith and is responsible for making the equipments for the first 2 heroes and often regarded as one of the best smiths of all time, but behind the scene, the smith was responsible for the largest slave ring that sell both demons and humans.

"Another war ensued, the only other friend he had, was then killed, he had to as his friend was beyond saving, he was then truly alone, the world no longer needed a hero, his daughter doesn't visit him anymore, in his moment of loneliness, a faction of demons, the ones who wanted to rule the world took advantage of his moment of weakness and convinced him to turn into a demon.

"A human and a demon are different races, if one were to turn to the other, they would go mad, and that's how the hero is known as the first demon lord, because the demon was just as strong as a hero and represented the demon faction who no longer want to be equal, they want to be the oppressor." Leilah finished the story of the first 2 heroes "And that's where us rose guardians come in. The demon lord passed his powers to his successor and the demon lords throughout the years have grown stronger than the original as the powers grow stronger as the time went on."

"Wouldn't that make them impossible to stop? Why haven't the gods, I don't know, stop it?"

"That's because everyone has a limit, at some point, no demons can handle that much power, they will have such a short life span that they might die before passing the power on, and only the tradition changed to only passing the important powers on." she answered

That make sense, if it just continues to grow stronger and stronger by the generation, at some point, nobody in the world will be able to handle all that, your body will just break down, I remember seeing something similar to that during my time at the project, it wasn't pretty, I can still remember their screams if I focus.

"The lords have came close to killing the demon lord many times, but ultimately, it's because not all the rose were there since it's not their job, and while the demon lord are just as strong as ever, the heroes on the other end are weaker, we are now in need of mass summons." Leilah explained

That's because we have more technologies and our life are easier due to them, people no longer are forced to fight or serve, we've become very domesticated if that's the right word.

"The heroes job is to take the demon lord down, while the books may say we will only die once the demon lord is eliminated, that's almost correct." Leilah continued "We will choose to die the moment the moment we know we are no longer needed, the roses job are to ensure both races live in peace."

"True peace don't really exist, there's always something bad that happens, it's in our nature."

"We know, but we at least want coexistence, the gods created us for that purpose, the lords are responsible for finding the balance." she giggled "Until then, we will continue to live, the demons and humans have not gotten along since they were born, it's our job to solve it for them."

"And that doesn't answer my question. How did you get in contact with me Leilah?"

"Among the roses, the black and white rose are the strongest, the most different one since the way we choose the lords are unlike the others." she answered "To be able to qualify for me, you have to die once, and not near death, but an actual one...as for the white rose, it's the symbol of life, he chooses only a newborn and bless them from birth. So to qualify for me, I can only pick and talk to the ones from the other world through dreams, I chose you amongst them of course, I influenced your mind to choose your trip since you are in the cluster of people that will be summoned here."

"What make them qualify to be heroes?"

"Ambition to have a better life, and when the summons happen, they will gather together, the teacher who was a spy from our world and the beacon/location for the array had arrange the trip with the people they deemed worthy and I influenced you to meet up with them after I influenced them to approach you but not register to this world as a part of the summon only as a trip participant."

"What about the bus driver? He died too."

"Who?" she gave me a puzzling look.

I then told her how my trip went and she honestly looked a bit surprised.

"Oh, I thought you died of a sudden illness, that's why you're here." she asked "If a person isn't meant to to be summoned get hit with the array, you would be struck by an illness that would give you a painless death a few days after since your body then can't defend from an otherworldly substance, which is mana in this case."

"So you're saying the bus driver died as an innocent passerby?"

"Yes." she nodded "Unfortunately."

"Y'all are shit, so where can I find ya?"

"Not yet, I will tell you once the summoned are here?"

"What do you mean?"

"It takes time to travel from 1 world to another, unlike you who is reborn, their body are needed to be modified to integrate with mana and arrive here, it takes approximately over 15 years." she requested "So about 10 more years since you are now 5, please wait for me."

"Can a person hold 2 roses at once?"

I'm just curious, just in case I qualify for the blue rose, this world seems fun at the very least.

"Well yes, unless you pair the white rose and me together, I can pair with any rose other than the white." she answered "Let's talk another time, I can feel that you are waking up, goodbye Perseus, it was nice seeing you again."
