4 Chapter 3: Mr. Ghost is Evolving!

I… I leveled up? I just did, right? Four times in a row, to boot.

Ah, right, by the way. I learned that there is actually a back log in my Analyze skill. So even though they disappear in my vision, I can just scroll back to look at them. I control it using my mind. How convenient.

Okay, alright. So… I received experience after getting baked alive. I'm not alive, but you get the point. Carefully thinking about it, maybe I've come to a world where baking someone makes them level up? Hmm… That's simply ridiculous. Why do I keep thinking about weird stuff?

But never minding that, I noticed something. I should have been intangible then, so it's weird to feel the temperature. It was when I turned Intangible off that I felt the cold temperature, so temperature is also one that is affected by my intangibility. But this time, I felt heat with it activated. It was scalding hot, even.

… Hmm… Unless, it wasn't the temperature that caused me to feel the heat.

Anyways, I leveled up.

I guess this really is the same as games, huh? Now that this happened, it makes it all the more game-like with all the status, skills, and stuff. And now, this leveling up.

In most Role Playing Games, when the player defeats a monster, they will gain the necessary experience points to level up. And I just did that. I leveled up. But commonly, a player should defeat quite a number of monster of its level to level up. For a player to level up four times in just one fell swoop, the opponent must be somewhat stronger than the player, if not a lot stronger.

And I just did that.

I defeated 'something.' And received experience points, high enough to make me level up four times.

Hmm… I wonder what I just defeated.

On the other hand, I can somehow guess how I defeated it.

If it was attacking me using an attack that uses Crysaztel, then maybe the Reflect skill activated and it returned the attack that I was receiving from the attacker. Then maybe that attack is associated with heat or something. Because of that, I now realized. Intangible is not always invulnerable to attacks. I thought that I was invincible to attacks since nothing can touch me. But I guess that's a wrong way of thinking.

Things got real…

Going back. So when it attacked me with 'heat' that uses Crysaztel, the attack was reflected back to it and killed it. I guess that sums it up, eh?

Ohoho~ Reflect is one heck of a skill. It's a must have.

But wow, this is kind of amazing in its own way. I feel like I just did something impossible. A Wandering Soul defeating a monster (if it really was a monster). A huge feat for Mr. Ghost. Mufufu.

So wait, wasn't I just in a dangerous situation right then? If not for the Reflect skill, I'm already dead by now. Not to mention, I only have 1 point for HG. One attack and I should've died. Also, I felt the heat so I actually received the attack. That really would have killed me without the Reflect… I know I'm already dead, but I'll die for sure if the skill didn't activate.

I have to treasure this skill. Yeah.

Just like how I did with Float, I guess I just need to use it repeatedly to understand its characteristics. However, since I still don't know the range of the reflection, deliberately receiving the attack of an opponent when my HG is only 1…

Hmmm… I'm not a masochist to enjoy that kind of play. Spare me with that. Ah. I love masochistic girls though. Mufufu.

At any rate, I don't know what just attacked me, but I can't deny the possibility that I will be attacked like that again. And maybe, in a different manner that my Reflect won't be able to defend against. I guess, I was just lucky that the attacker is not that strong. Or at least, it's on an equivalent level with me.

I still don't know a lot of things. It's a lot different when I was still a human. I know that if a person knows too little about a situation like this, they could go nuts.

But for me, it's just as thrilling as a game. I'm aware that this not a game. I could die, for real. I could no longer think after that. I won't be me anymore. The me, right now, would cease to exist. But that doesn't stop me from feeling this excitement.

Yes, that's right. I'm excited. Events after events. Unknown things after another. They make me excited after a long while of blandness. This must be the thing I am waiting for.

If I have a mouth, I might be grinning or smirking right now. Not an evil grin, alright? It's a genuine grin of joy. Wait, why do I keep making these excuses all by myself?

… The years of being a bookworm is having a toll on my mind…

For now, let's check the Evolution.

I mean, is there a need to think? Evolution is awesome. Just the word 'Evolution' makes my childish heart tingle. And like I've said before, as long as it sounds interesting, I'll go for it.

Also perhaps, I may be able to get out of this boring loop of wandering around.

There're only two choices here. It's either I choose to stay as a Wandering Soul forever and rot away, or I choose to evolve. Even if I don't know what kind of form that is waiting for me, it's better than being a Wandering Soul forever. I'm getting bored to death.

Considering all those, there is only one answer for me.

While I was thinking that, I felt like my body heated for an instant and then the heat faded. The heat was enough to be called 'hot' and I even thought that maybe I was actually burning. But because it was just an instant, it didn't bother me that much. It was different from the heat from the attack.

O-Oh… My eyes… This is getting me all dizzy… Well, I don't have eyes but… My vision became instantly filled with pop-up screens… They almost filled up ever crevice and the darkness was replaced by the screens.

But like hell I'll care about that…!

Hmhm…~ Mufufu. I evolved… I did… I just evolved. Mufufufu… Awesome… this is awesome… Mufufufufu…

I'm now an Orb! Yay! Though, I don't know what kind of Orb, or what actually is an Orb. But the best thing about it is…

The Title World Traveler activated after the evolution!

So that was the reason, huh? I was not a 'being' when I was a Wandering Soul. I was dead, so it didn't activate. It was impossible to use. But now that I'm a monster, or in other words, a living being, it activated and bestowed the additional status points. Mufufu… I don't know up to what degree, but I feel like I got stronger because of that.

First and foremost. I'm now a monster.

When I was still a human, I was quite fascinated with fantasy genre that I sometimes daydream of living in a fantasy world. Where I will be an adventurer, defeat monsters, finish some quests, and become the most famous adventurer in the kingdom.

I even tried to write a novel about it.

But I never thought that I would actually come to a fantasy world. Much less… To be the monster that must be defeated by the adventurer.

It's just really far from my expectation…

Well, it's not that bad as I thought it would be. I'm an Orb. I'm harmless. I don't have a means to fight. I'm a ghost. I mean, what could go wrong?
