4 Chapter 4 - Ambush

Clash of swords surrounded the compound. Magic missiles shot straight and true to the incoming orc horde. There were about 40 of them and they attacked without any hesitation. The foremost guards fell to the onslaught of the orcs. But more soldiers came to reinforce the line. Merillion had only about 25 soldiers and magicians. Since they were in the woods, shadows of the enemy seemed more threatening as they moved from tree to tree, taking cover as projectiles were directed at them. It was going to be a tough fight.

The orcs were dressed in light armour. Dark green were their appearances, jagged teeth lined their jawline. They came with scimitars and daggers. A few of them had round shields and they pressed their advantage as the ambush came out to surprise the humans.

Hoshiro backed away in the commotion and had to think on his feet. He grabbed the Princess and took her away from the battlement and into a caravan wagon.

“Quick, cast a barrier of some sort to buy me some time!” Shouted Hoshiro to Merillion.

Merillion reacted immediately.

“Protega Arcanus!” She chanted. A transparent barrier shielded the wagon around them.

“You have roughly 2 mins.” Said the Princess, her voice quivering.

“That is more than plenty of time.” Replied Hoshiro.

He took out his note book and quickly proceeded to draw a handgun and a cartridge of bullets. Touching it with his saliva, he then manifested the weapon in his hand. In one smooth motion, he slid the cartridge into the Beretta 92 he summoned. With 15 bullets, he would dominate the battle.

After making sure the Princess is safely put, he mentioned for her to stay in the wagon. The Princess complied. Then, sucking in a gasp of air and gathering his courage, Hoshiro charged outside the wagon.

Problem is, he tripped at the edge and he tumbled out of the wagon.

Not cool man!

Thought Hoshiro to himself, whilst rubbing his buttocks.

He grunted to stand up and in front of him was a clash of metal, arrows flying by, blood on the grounds. Hoshiro seized up for only a microsecond, before he ran up to the battlement and with vigor, shot an orc in the face, thus dropping him.

Startled at the sound of a gun, the orcs turned to face this new threat.

Hoshiro then dashed towards the orc horde.

An orc came slashing horizontally at Hoshiro, but missed as he dodged to the right and then turned and pointed the gun at the orc and shot.

Down came another body.

Hoshiro drew more orcs to him, but quickly made short work of them with three separate shots, down came the trio of enemies.

Fearful and wary of Hoshiro and his loud weapon, the orcs shot at him with arrows.

One arrow scraped the side of his left arm, tearing his uniform and leaving a gush of wound as blood seeped into his sleeve.

The young man then proceeded to come face to face with scimitars that came to chop at his body. But before the blades came, a hail of bullets, aimed with precision, came raining down on the heads of 4 more orcs.

The orcs then became scared. They separated into two groups. One group preoccupied themselves with the soldiers, but the other smaller group of 5 orcs came rushing at Hoshiro.

Hoshiro was undaunted and shot the remaining bullets into the unlucky orcs that came his way.

Then, as the orc numbers dwindled, they made a call that sounded retreat. The scattered and broken orc band then proceeded to leave the soldiers and ran deep into the forest.

The last orc that ran away was still in the vicinity of Hoshiro’s gun. And not wanting to waste a bullet, aimed, shot, and executed the remaining rear of the enemy.

Astounded and shocked, the soldiers cried out in elation as the ambush was pacified.

6 soldiers lost their lives, but the rest of the team stood intact.

Princess Merillion came out of the caravan wagon and approached Hoshiro, having witnessed the might of the secret weapon that the hero wielded.

“That was amazing!” exclaimed the Princess. “You killed 15 orcs within such a short span of time! What is this weapon?!”

“This?” Hoshiro held the gun up at eye level. “This is a gun. And while amazing, I still could have done better.”

The young man then put the gun on the ground as it was out of bullets and then tended to look at the wound across his upper left arm.

“Please, let me handle that for you.” Said the Princess, absolutely charmed and impressed by her hero.

“Curago Arcanus!” Continued Meriliion.

Green light shot out of the Princess’ hands and came upon the flesh of Hoshiro. Feel a warmth at the gush of the wound, the flesh then repaired itself back to pristine form.

“Thank you very much, your highness!” said Hoshiro, rotating his arm in the air.

“Vicotry! We have Victory!” Shouted the soldiers.

The guards came huddled around Hoshiro and lifted him up in the air.

Cries of celebration and joy and awe sounded the air. It was the first time that Hoshiro felt so grandiose. And quite frankly, he loved it.
