17 Chapter 17 - Is it Worth It?

For a long time after, Hoshiro pondered his fate and the diviner’s prophecy. He could not sleep properly and for the next couple of nights, tired and exhausted from thinking too much.

The others could tell that Hoshiro was worried about the images he saw, but did not know how to comfort him.

Was it worth it to defeat the Demon Lord, and then become like the Demon Lord?

Hoshiro asked himself.

There was no simply answer to his question, only guesses in the dark.

As he laid in his sleeping bag near the fire, he recounted the images he saw. Screams filled his head. Suffering, rampant suffering was around the kingdom. Trees and lands in fire. It was horrid imagery. Hoshiro could not sleep, only laying there and thinking of what might be.

Lance came over to Hoshiro to wake him up for his night watch shift.

Not surprised that Hoshiro was not yet asleep, he conversed with him.

“Hoshiro. It’s your turn for the watch.”

“Aye. Thank you, Lance.”
